DRAECHEN  How about following up with customer requests for support instead of posting ads in your competitors products? Might help better with sales rather than burning the bridges already built...

DRAECHEN  As noted in the next thread... If you already installed it once, you wont be able to use it again! Too bad! WAS great software but wont be buying it again to use the software I already paid for.

DRAECHEN  I think youll find that even with the original download of 1, you'll run into the problem described. The serial number is no longer valid once it was used once. Until the developer fixes this, even if you find the dmg, you still wont be able to use the software again short of buying it again. Go figure.

DRAECHEN  I would add I too had a motherboard and HD that died in my machine. Luckily I was able to restore from a Time Machine backup and the plugin no longer worked. Its ok I thought, I still have the serial number and the installer (I backed it up just in case). It didnt work after the restore, the reinstall etc. Said the serial number was already used.

Just like yourself I understand the anti piracy side of things. I emailed them. No response. I found the contact us link on their support page. No response. Three attempts, I gave up.

I will NEVER buy this software again (version I owned worked fine but with a single use of the installer better pray you never need to reinstall anything) I recommend against buying this software, no matter how it works.

iDrive

DRAECHEN  It looks like Frodo is right.... From their own website:

"Note: IDrive DOES NOT store the user defined encryption key anywhere on the server side. We therefore advise you to take a print of this private encryption key or archive this user defined encryption key in a safe location from where you can retrieve it. You cannot decrypt data backed up to IDrive without this private encryption key. Private encryption key option is available only for the Windows platform, and not for the Mac platform."

This is from their security page:

http://www.idrive.com/online-backup-security.htm

I was going to try this but this is the main concern I have with offsite backups that someone might have access to my information without my consent. I guess Ill be waiting this one out. :(

FARIBORZ  Thank you for taking time and writing an answer to my inquiry. It's really a shame that iDriveforMac hasn't thought of a security feature for Mac users. IDriveforMac is very fast on my Mac and I really intended to choose it as my main external backup source but under the present conditions I should think twice before doing so. Again thank you for your advice and all the best. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

DRAECHEN  You can fine tune your controlling of the interval even more than this app may allow. (I admittedly have never used it)-There are instructions on macosxhints about setting the time inteveral:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=200710291721156

And for your favorite plist editor to use Id suggest Text Wrangler...

STORMCHILD  That probably will not work, as .plist files are usually binary now (not text, as they were back in 10.3 and earlier), so they would not be editable with something like TextWrangler. You have to use Apple's Property List Editor, part of the developer tools, or another tool that understands the binary .plist format.

Jax
Jan 26 2007

DRAECHEN  I too ran into a problem with finding the software. It looks like from their homepage they sold it off to Prosoft Engineering and it is being rebranded as Jax. I just wanted to reinstall it as my hd crashed and it doesnt look like this will be possible for me either until Jax is up and running. BTW- www.prosofteng.com for the new url.

Movies Database

**...

DRAECHEN  Ok so you can pay money for a filemaker database that someone obviously spent a lot of time working on making sure it has a field for EVERYTHING or you can use some software that will help you manage your collection like Delicious Library. There is a reason that time and time again Delicious Library gets voted the best management software for books, dvds and software. Plus tracks who you might have lent things to and has other developers working on plugins. If you want to use the right software for the tool go here:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16417 but if you are looking for a canned filemaker database that (lets face facts) looks awful, well then, enjoy...

XENOPHILE  Delicious Library isn't all that great. It's ok, but the GUI requires an inordinate amount of mousing, and it lacks the features and attention to detail of other multimedia cataloging applications in its price range. Furthermore, DL is being developed at the pace of a tortois. I used DL for about three years before moving up to DVDpedia, and during that time the developer issued a few maintenance updates but added no significant new features or feature enhancements.

DRAECHEN  Fantastic software! I just wanted to add how good I thought this software was. I download my tivo files, watch them via front row as it saves it right to my movies folder. Makes it truly a joy to use frontrow with my tivo content. Keep up the great work!
