Tried Leech. Didn't like at all. Several downloads were corrupted. Turned it off and sticking to native Camino download |
The resolution is to use either Firefox or Safari for downloads. |
FYI: The latest version of Firefox 3.0 disables Miro: says it is not compatible. |
Downloaded from MU and installed. No problem. Yes, the auto update feature of Office 2004 doesn't seem to work anymore. I guess because of V.2008. The instructions say that you need V11.4.1 already installed and to confirm this you need to go to Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin and see that it says V11.4.1 before you install this version. |
this new version doesn't seem to work. Is there something I need to do? |
Well, it must be something else that's interfering with the download then, because every time I download, it's a partial one and the file cannot be extracted. Odd, isn't it? |
Is it me? Every update to this program will not download properly using any version of Camino. Firefox yes, Camino no. And it is the only program I have trouble with. Anyone else have this problem? |
Hell if I know. Believe me, don't worry about it. It just can't be done right now. |
Yes, I agree with you. The Mozilla people warned me that the Mac transfers will be bumpy and they are correct. For now, I seem to have solved the most immediate problems of sending and receiving mail from both home and work so I'm good to go. My needs are simple. The reason I stuck with Eudora all these years was the great search capabilities it has, e.g., trying to track down a message on a certain topic that was sent a year or two ago. Here Eudora can't be beat! I hope it continues that way. |
Well, curiosity get the best of me: I tried importing my Eudora address book and messages. 1) Addresses came over fairly well, but the organization is kooky compared to what I had in the past. I will have to spend time reorganizing. But at last I won't need to retype it all. 2) Message importation was a joke. Less that 10% of the messages archived by year made it over. I don't know of another way to get all my saved emails over to this new version. The new Eudora refuses to open the files directly. So for now, I will need to maintain two versions of Eudora: a legacy version (V6.2.4) and a current version 8.x. It's deja vu again: when my partner and I sold our house a few years ago, I found all my old Apple //e diskette files of information using programs that no longer exist or have a way to be converted. I just had to throw them out. |
Well, I spent the day (Labor Day) familiarizing myself with this version of Eudora. My thoughts: 1) Recognizing that this is a beta, I can forgive some very obvious bugs (additional personalities may not show up under certain circumstances, resizing the main window is not remembered upon reopening, etc.) 2)Unlike old Eudora, settings are scattered all over the place, making it very difficult to set up things, but once you do, things tend to work nicely. 3) You may need to go back to your ISP and make sure of the proper settings to configure incoming and outgoing email because the setup has more variables than old Eudora. With old Eudora, I could receive but not send emal using Comcast's and ATT Worldnet's service. With new Eudora, it was the opposite until I went back to both services and looked at the exact settings necessary (which weren't a part of old Eudora.) Voila! Receiving/sending are now extraordinarily fast. 4) HTML renders a lot better than before. 5) Dates are not rendered well. So after a few hours of playing with the program, I'm much more comfortable with the program. I haven't tried to import my address book because it is my understanding that the Thunderbird group suggests not to, especially with Macs, so I will probably manually move them over, which is a pain and I would have thought that they'd use Apple's address Book but they kept to Eudora's separate address book. I'm not sure that this was the best idea. Unlike others, I feel that this is a good start, but there is more work to be done. As this work is voluntary, I pray the developers don't abandon their new born child. I know this may sound heretical, but I would pay for this new version of Eudora (as I did the old) if there was some way to assure its continued upkeep. |
Oh, I was sooooo looking forward to this release. But I still can't send mail over Comcast's internet service. A year ago, I had no problem doing this by setting up a different personality in Eudora. But all of a sudden, a few months ago, I could no longer do so. Others has this same problem. I was praying that with this new version I'd be in like Flynn. But no dice, and Comcast doesn't support Eudora (and I believe Thunderbird), so I don't know what to do. If another Comcast user reads this and you can send messages and you are reading this, PLEASE tell me how you did it. I will be eternally grateful. |
A marvel! Just amazingly good. If I had any future enhancements, it would to automatically eject the current CD and ask for the next, then automatically bring up the import window. But this is just one of those little refinements that one can do without, but as a first time user was surprised wasn't there. I have several cassette-based audiobooks that I wanted to listen to on my iPod. I transferred them to CD, then used this to "audiobook" them. Wonderful! And the price is great! |
Updated a MacBook Pro and an Intel-based iMac. MacBook Pro: A little erratic afterwards but after restarting several times and using DiskWarrior to replace the directory, all seems okay and now VERY fast. iMac: Had MAJOR problems syncing my Palm and iCal with Missing Sync. Current week completely duplicated and suddenly I had 63 duplication errors. Had to delete on both Palm AND iMac to get the sync correct. Lost 2 appointments (glad I remembered what they were!). Regretfully, I didn't repair permissions BEFORE I did the update. Wouldn't it be nice for Apple to do this as part of the update? |
I humbly regret to say that creating a new application support file for Camino did not work. Also removing any files in the InputManagers folder did not work either. The opening page still does not render properly and clicking on several items produces unreliable results. This is my (a layman's) definition of unuseable. |
I looked at Bugzilla and now I remember that the problem I was having with Camino originally was that Citibank was suggesting that I switch to Firefox. The site would work properly when I ignored what they told me to do. I remember, altering some code to make Camino look like Firefox to Citibank and this eliminated the warning. I will create a new problem for this problem: now the graphics/HTML is not rendering properly at all and you can't get into the site. |
Honestly, I don't remember the number. I don't keep track of these things - I'm not in the business of doing so. But again, I did look at the release notes, and there seems to be a lot of changes going on in how Camino is working. Yes, it could be a Citibank problem, but it does seem strange that Firefox uses the same underpinnings and the site renders perfectly with it and not with these new versions of Camino. |
How can it be Citibank's fault? Their site works with Camino 1.0.3, Firefox 2.0.0.2 and Safari. Something MUST be different with Camino 1.1 otherwise, there would be no need for it, right? Regarding bugzilla, I do believe I mentioned it to them, but just like page rendering got all screwed up with new versions of Safari, Firefox and Camino on VSPs website several years ago, when you are dealing with password protected sites, there is only so much that the Mozilla people can do. |
Neither the alphas nor this beta render Citibank's web site correctly and is unuseable. Stable version 1.0.3 works great, and is my browser of choice on my MaxBook Pro (1st edition). Hope they can iron this out before 1.1 oficially is released. |

BurnAgain DVD is being offered as an paid upgrade. Cost: $9.50 |
A revelation! A small piece of software, beautifully executed, easy to use, understand, AND helps save time and facilitates workflow. In other words, totally what the Macintosh is supposed to do. I salute the developers. Now, can they possibly make an office suite that we can use instead of Microsoft Office? |
The reality of life is that most accountants use Windows-based programs. By being a Mac-only product, the data file cannot be used directly by accountants. My advice to the the creators: go against the grain: port your program over to Windows (as Apple did with iTunes) so that our accountants can read the files directly. The only finance program creators who seem to understand this is MoneyDance and this is what I am now using. MoneyDance is a bit rough around the edges BUT it is cross platform. Without this cross platform ability why is there a reason to switch from Quicken? Most accountants are familiar with Quicken. |
Has anyone tried to use Quicken 2007 for Windows through CrossOver? Is it any better than using Quicken 2007 for the Mac? |
Have you ever tried to convert your data so that your bookkeeper can use your data on his Windows-based PC? Good-luck! It is almost impossible to do if your file has any degree of complexity. I've tried doing this with my professional society's finances: it was a nightmare! I wound up just printing it out and the bookkeeper charged us more because he had to input the data manually. And this file was truly simple compared to my personal file which contains deposits containing as many as 20 split lines! The reality is that finance professionals do not use Macs. They use Windows-based PCs. And without that cross platform translation ability, Quicken for Mac is a disabled child. |
What do you mean by "remotely complex". I am running my Optometric Practice using MoneyDance as well as tracking my condo payments etc. I'm not big on securities and the like so I can't say if MoneyDance can do these things, but it doesn't seem like Quicken does these things very well either. Anything more complex, the answer is MYOB. DrG |
I'm moving over to MoneyDance on 1/1/07. It's a little crude compared to Quicken but it is truly cross-platform and as a relatively new program, certainly should get better. My suggestion to EVERYONE: ditch Quicken and use any of the alternatives out there. |
Happily you've never had to deliver your file to an accountant. What's with all these accountants? They ALL use Windows-based computers! My guess is you've never had to convert your data to the Windows format. Try it sometime (and weep!) Every year Intuit "updates" Quicken. Every review each year says there is little new in the updated version. So why update? The Mac version is not as comprehensive as the PC version, is not compatible with the PC version, is not a universal application (and may never become one), has the same annoyances update after update, and is generally full of new bugs each year that are not resolved until the end of the year when it's time to update to a "new" version which starts the same problem again. You know the expression: There's a sucker born every minute! |
I like Camino very much and it has become my preferred browser on my MacBook Pro. But there is one thing that seems to happen a lot: my bookmarks preference file seems to get corrupted from time to time and then won't load. I have to revert to a saved copy of the bookmarks.plist file and replace the corrupted file. Does this happen to anyone else? It NEVER happens when using Firefox. Any ideas besides the usual (checking permissions etc.) to fix this? |
Our office has both Intel and PPC-based Macs. The PPC-based Mac went through the second reboot after installation. The Intel-based machine did not. |
I love this program, but ever since I got my new MacBook Pro, I get these red lines across all the continents that were formed as the earth first began spinning, and I have not been able to get rid of them. Any idea how to fix this problem? |
I've been using Cocktail for several years. It's good. I just purchased and received a new MacBook Pro. One of the things I used Coctail for was to change the sleep setting so that my PowerBook would not awake from sleep when I opened the cover. I tried to change this setting using Cocktail on this machine but it doesn't seem to work, i.e., effect a change. If Cocktail's author sees this, could he tell me what perhaps I'm doing wrong? |
NOTE TO EVERYONE: THE UNINSTALLER DOES NOT WORK! I keep getting an error message to run it again. |
I kept getting a -8 error (unable to communicate with station) when trying to update the express I use to extend the range of my extreme base station. Can anyone out there explain (I'm updating from V6.0 to V6.3) |
Even if it is free, it needs to work properly. By the way, I'd pay for it if it worked properly, but it doesn't. I use Eudora, and I've paid for it every year. |
This version of FireFox does not work properly with Vision Service Plan's web site. Parts of the page emements do not line up correctly as they did with V1.0.7 (i.e., the last official release), so I'm going back to this Version. A great disappointment. I contacted Mozilla about this problem, but I get my individual need was not important enough. |
Has anyone else noticed that after upgrading from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3, there are URLs that no longer present themselves as URLs but just plain text? Or they will have carats before and after them (ex: This is happening to me in both Safari and Firefox. Anyone know how to correct this? |
I had problems updating 10.4.2 to 10.4.3 using the Software Update extension as well (I have a Mac Cube). My machine was acting funky afterwards and some programs were now crashing immediately after opening. Here's what I did: I downloaded the update from Apple's web site. I repaired permissions and then ran the update again from the downloaded file. It completely reinstalled the update and I could here it was making a LOT of changes. I then restarted, immediately repaired permissions again. Now all is working perfectly! |
Any help appreciated: I'm using a Tungsten E with Palm 4.2.1 Rev A under Tiger. Should I upgrade to Rev C? Palm doesn't list the Tungsten E as compatible, only the E2. Yet Palm says the Rev C is for Tiger users. |
Better than previous versions: it now works with the CitiBusiness web portal. However, it still does not render some web pages properly (ex: Eyefinity.com's CMS Claim Form). Overall, I still prefer Firefox as it is more compatible with the web sites I must use. |
Yes, BUT how many people have purched the $59 version without realizing that this is a "dead end" version? People report that they like the $59 price. Do they like the $150 price?? |
I have two non-USB HP LaserJets and printing under Tiger has been Gaud Auful!! Delay, Delay. Delay. Not now. Thank you Apple! |
As a person in business selling professional services, I want to be paid for my work. That is why I thoroughly agree that you should be paid for your work. But there has got to be another way of making sure you get your payments without essentially penalizing the very people who are paying/supporting your endeavors. I'm sure that as business people, that does not make good business sense, and in fact, encourages unwanted behavior on the part of users of your labors. |
Just turned on my computer today to see that V0.85b had expired and a seemingly newer version V0.95b is available at the home web site. |
This has happened in the past: Trying to install, the installer quits after partially installing saying access denied. A previous troubleshooter's idea worked again: Control-click the Eudora application, click on Show Package Contents, open the Contents folder, open the MacOS folder, open the Eudora Stuff folder and remove all three Emoticons folders. Closs all folders and then reinstall the update. Works perfectly then! |
The virus definition updates posted on the .mac site were always posted far behind what MacUpdate has provided. If you are a MacUpdate member, you can put the Virex Updates on your watch list, download them as they become available, then install the package, then run Virex 7.2 to san your drive. Remove V7.5 from all OS X 10.4 machines and reinstall V7.2. |
Apple has stated in its forums that Virex 7.5.x does not work with Tiger. Other forums have stated (and I confirm by having done it) that Virex 7.2.1 DOES work with Tiger. Go to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301291 so see how to uninstall Virex 7.5.x. Then redownload 7.2.1 from Apple's site (yes it's still there!) and install. You will not have as many features, and you will have to manually scan your drive, but I still feel to this day that V7.2 was much better than 7.5. Also, you might find your computer working faster and cooler as the processor won't constantly be working. I want't to thank all the people who have posted to Apple's forums on Apple's websites for providing the info that I'm giving to you. You all are great!!! |
Although I like this program, it does have one quirk which I find very annoying. The updates that I download from MacUpdate do not validate a registered user. If you replace, say, V2.0.1 with 2.0.2 the new program doesn't accept your registration code as valid. The last time, this happened, going from 2.0 to 2.0.1, the author sent an email to registered users pointed to where a valid update can be downloaded. Does this happen to anyone else? And to the author, why do we have to do this with each incremental update? |
To ligaz, thanks for taking the time to offer help (I really do appreciate it). I repaired permissions and tried to reinstall 6.2.3b5 but wound up with the same problem in the same place. I have an alert out to the Eudora developers. This is the first time I've experienced this in all the updates I have done. |
cannot upgrade my previous version; after installing about 72 of the 291 files, the installer quits saying access denied. I have no idea why. |
Although you'd never know it from earthbrowser.com, if you own V2.5.x, this is a FREE download. Just download it from here and replace your old files with the new ones. Your serial number will still be seen. |
This version cannot be upgraded without repaying the full price again. You have to by the "Professional" version in order to get free updates, and that version costs about $150. I'm not sure these prices are realistic. What do others think? |
When specifically would not having the resource forks be an issue? I used it to burn pictures to an external CDR that I downloaded from my camera to the desktop and the resultant CDR worked perfectly both in my internal CD/CDR/DVD read-only drive and in my partner's Dell CDR/RW burner. |
Has anybody experienced this: Upon updating from 11.0 to 11.1, both Word and Excel no longer make any sounds! Entourage still does, the other two do not. I checked Microsoft Notifications and the sound is on. Any ideas? |
I have Virex 6.1 on OS 9.2.2. When I tried to eUpdate just now, Virex said my virus definitions were current at 9/1/04, so I downloaded the 10/01/04 defs via MacUpdate and applied them. Worked perfectly. However, when I tried to diagnose my drive, I got an alert that I had to uncheck SpeedScan in Virex's preference since it is no longer supported. I did this an the diagnosis proceeded perfectly, possibly even faster than before! |
I converted my G4 PowerBook from OS 9 to OS X 10.3, and now I'm running 10.3.5. My ZiO! was working perfectly when I was in OS 9. It does not work at all now. I installed this driver and all I got for it was the following message: The following extension was not installed correctly, please reinstally or contact the manufacturer for a update: /system/library/extensions/usbatcf.kext Removing/uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing. My ZiO! is now lifeless. It will not mount on the desktop. I had to go to my local Apple store and purchas a new (FireWire) reader, which worked perfectly the first time I used it. I don't mind having to install a driver. But what driver? The driver being supplied apparently only really works with 10.2.x (even though some of us have been able to use it with 10.3.3. This is not acceptable. |
Safari STILL does not work with Citibank's CitiBusiness banking portal. It STILL does not work with Vision Service Plan's (VSP) practitioner portal. I've mention this to Apple employees and posted bug reports regarding it. It is also MUCH slower than the latest build of Mozilla. Sorry Apple, but this program which really doesn't match up to some of the other contenders. I'll stick with Mozilla for now. |
To the previous two commentors: If the auther says the minimum requirement is Mac OS X 10.3, why are you trashing the product when it doesn't work on 10.2.8? Instead of yelling TEST, TEST, TEST!, I would say to you read, read, READ! |
Has the link to download this update really been fixed. I can't seem to download this update from either macupdate.com or from mactopia.com. My browser keeps on saying that the site doesn't exist. Any suggestions from anyone? |
This doesn't work for OS 9 as stated. It is OS X only. I have V2.10 which does work for OS 9 |
The version that downloards is 1.1b. Is this the same as 1.1fc?? Nontheless, Mozilla is very good. It is fast!! But please, can someone provide 128-bit encryption? |
I hope someone who is looking for the 5.0.5 updater for the full version of Acrobat 5.0 reads this before even downloading it. After many false starts, I was able to download this large file and install it. WHAT A MISTAKE!! This update, which allows you to create a pdf version of Microsoft Office documents causes the following: 1) Office components open much more slowly. 2) BREAKS MICROSOFT WORD so that the menu bar NO LONGER WORKS!!! 3) Causes Excel instability and Type 1 errors. The problem is the files put in the Startup Folder in the Microsoft Office Folder. I reinstalled V5.00 but realized that I had to go into Microsoft Office and remove these three critical files so that Office would work correctly. This is a travesty!! This update couldn't have been even checked before it was released. If it supposedly was, the people handling this update are completely incompetant and should be immediately FIRED! And Adobe now owes me $$$ for the time I wasted in removing this piece of crap. I run OS 9.2.2 |
Unless, you're having problems with Quicken 2002, DON'T APPLY THIS UPGRADE!!! I did and it COMPLETELY DESTROYED my finances file, a file that I'd been updating for at least five years!! Every note in every slit that was entered was COMPLETELY wiped away. Thank God I have the program save a complete copy after every close! I had to go back to a copy made several days ago to find one that Quicken 2002 would now open properly. Each copy would be corrupted after opening! A DISASTER. AGAIN, DON't APPLY THIS REVISION! |
