DRFRANK "Ergonis support responded quickly, but was to recommend a solution." should have been, "Ergonis support responded quickly, but was unable recommend a solution." (Version 4.1)

DRFRANK Three clicks* on the PopChar 4.1 menubar icon caused my system to hang; everything except my cursor was frozen and I was forced to power down. Unfortunately, this 'hang' was reproducible. Ergonis support responded quickly, but was to recommend a solution. I've been using OS X since it was introduced, this is my first system hang. Click 1 - PopChar window opened Click 2 - PopChar window closed Click 3 - System hang (Version 4.1)

STAR-AFFINITY Are you running a MacBook Pro with Nvidia graphics? If you open Console.app can you find something like ”graphic channel timed out” in the logs? (Version 4.1.1)

Contactizer Pro | Dec 5 2007 |
DRFRANK I've previously purchased FileMaker, Now Up to Date and Contact (NUDC), Entourage (Office 2004), SOHO Organizer and Daylite. I recently purchased Contactizer Pro. If you've been searching for a modern, intuitive, Mac contact manager that's tightly integrated with Apple's core technologies, check it out for yourself; the developer offers a fully functional 30-day demo. Sapiens | Oct 11 2007 |
DRFRANK I'm not a keyboard guy, I like the mouse, specifically Apple's Mighty Mouse. I've used LaunchBar and Quicksilver for years, but I wasn't a power user of either program. Sapiens intrigued me as soon as I heard about it; I purchased it that same day and a week later, Sapiens is natural to use and just plain fun. (Version 1.0.1)

MailTemplate for Mail | Jun 11 2006 |
DRFRANK My business uses a fair amount of 'boilerplate' email text. iClip and TextExpander have proven useful, but MailTemplate is much better suited to what I do. Automation is key and MailTemplate cuts down the steps I have to perform manually. MailTemplate preselects the correct email account, completes the subject line and even allows me to automatically insert 'special objects' such as names and quoted content into my email replies. I like it! (Version 1.4.2)

MailSteward | May 30 2006 |
DRFRANK I was sufficiently intrigued by MailSteward that I visited the developer's web site a few times. Each time, I concluded that Apple Mail and Spotlight were doing an adequate job with the messages I've decided to retain. Most of the email that I receive quickly makes its way to the trash; I don't store hundreds of thousands of email messages. That said, I've accumulated tens of thousands of messages, that pertain to my prospering Vemma home business. Somewhat reluctantly, I decided to give MailSteward a whirl. I first tested MailSteward on one of my Vemma folders. MailSteward quickly added about 12,000 messages to a new database. I've since set up a number of databases. I'm very impressed by the ability to tag my archived email and by MailSteward's quick search capabilities. Conclusion: MailSteward is easy to use, fun and useful. I haven't had any problems with MailSteward on my iMac Intel Core Duo. (Version 7.3.9)

Wallet | Apr 24 2006 |
DRFRANK Now, that's what I'm talking about! Version 2 of Wallet had potential - version 2.5 begins to deliver on the promise. Contrary to what has been written, this is a significant update. I'm a long time Web-Confidential user and recent switcher. Why? I'm a fan of Wallet's straightforward information storage paradigm. It's a speedy Universal app that's fun to use. I'll write again if I discover any significant Wallet problems after further testing. I'm also evaluating SecretBook. I like SecretBook's CoreData foundation and its ability to take advantage of Spotlight, but, at least for the moment, I'm actually storing my stuff in Wallet. (Version 2.5)

Yojimbo | Jan 24 2006 |
DRFRANK A simple, potentially very useful, cocoa app from Bare Bones that uses core Mac OS X technologies including CoreData. I suspect DEVONthink Pro is much more capable, but I don't know for sure because I've never used it; even though I purchased a license. I like Yojimbo's ease-of-use, 'Drop Dock' and item-by-item encryption. The app itself looks great, but sports one of Bare Bones' usual crappy icons - a silhouette of a martial arts guy that my daughter thinks is a witch flying toward a harvest moon. SOHO Notes supports more data types (images, movies, audio) and I can link my stuff to my contacts when necessary. I'll be sticking with SOHO notes, but I'll keep an eye on Yojimbo. I wonder if Bare Bones use of CoreData signals anything about an upcoming version of Mailsmith. (Version 1.0)

SOHO Organizer | Jan 7 2006 |
DRFRANK I've paid for a sizable number of contact management programs. On the Mac, I've used Claris Organizer, Chronos Organizer, Now Contact, Entourage, DayLite, FileMaker (my own) and Apple's Address Book. SOHO Organizer is exactly what I need! It integrates beautifully with Apple's Address Book and iCal but also significantly extends their functionality. I'm not a programmer, but I can imagine the time and effort required to write a new cocoa app like SOHO Organizer. Chronos has done the necessary, but difficult, work to prepare an impressive foundation for future app development. I'm enjoying using this app now and I'm looking forward to using SOHO Organizer for many years to come; thank you! (Version 5.0.3)
