DEMOSTHENES  Heh, well it took a bit longer than I planned, but colour tinting is now an option in Shades 1.2b1

DEMOSTHENES  I'll investigate this issue, although that has not been my experience when using MagiCal (I keep the system clock in the menu bar alongside MagiCal for comparison).

In future please file bug reports using the integrated reporting system. I check those reports a lot more frequently than the MacUpdate comments.

DEMOSTHENES  My general policy is to fix bugs as quickly as possible after they are reported. It just so happens that there have been a lot of bugs reported over the last few days.

I don't expect that there will be any more updates for a while now, as most of the urgent issues seem to have been resolved.

I strongly recommend that you update to 1.1a8, which is relatively stable. Versions prior to 1.1a7 don't actually tell the time correctly!

DEMOSTHENES  A better question would be "how many bugs can there be in a clock?". Lots, apparently ;-)

DEMOSTHENES  Hi Likos, I don't normally announce features in advance to avoid disappointment, however since you've brought it up, I thought you'd like to know that this is a planned feature for 1.1.6.

DEMOSTHENES  A few users are experiencing an issue with Shades 1.5 crashing when they upgrade.

The fix appears to be to delete your preferences file. You'll find it in your users folder under library/preferences/com.charcoaldesign.shades.plist.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

DEMOSTHENES  I'm not clear what you mean by 'disappear' - MagiCal's menu and tear-off calendars do not appear in front of full-screen movie presentations in VLC.

This *was* an issue with earlier versions but has since been corrected - are you sure you are running the latest release?

Or have I misunderstood what you are asking for?

DEMOSTHENES  Perhaps you would care to elaborate on this...?

If you could phrase your requirements in the form of feature requests, I would be happy to try to improve the software to better meet your needs.

DEMOSTHENES  I'm sorry, I'm not clear what is meant by the previous comment. Is it a suggestion?

If so, you will be pleased to know that in version 1.0.3 the clock is not redrawn more than once per minute if seconds are not included in the time format (as mentioned in the release notes), however the resultant reduction in CPU usage is not as great as I would have expected.

DEMOSTHENES  It potentially has to redraw the menu clock once a second, which is always going to use up some CPU.

There is room for some optimisation though (such as not redrawing the clock when the seconds aren't displayed), so hopefully I'll be able to cut this down a bit in future releases.

DEMOSTHENES  A "float calendar below applications" option has been added in version 1.0.2. Your other suggestions will be reviewed for possible future inclusion.

DEMOSTHENES  I believe that the time format options on MagiCal far exceed the options available in the Apple clock.

If there is an option or feature that you require that is not provided, please submit a feature request via the web site.

DEMOSTHENES  It is not necessary to disable Menufela and reboot, you can simply switch off menu hiding.

This will allow you to access the MagiCal preferences and set it up, or tear off a calendar. After this you can re-enable menu hiding and continue to use both programs, all without requiring a restart.

Of course, since it is "essentially worthless" you won't be wanting to do that I suppose.

DEMOSTHENES  After the fantastic (if a tad unstable) 2006r4 release that included universal binary support and could finally handle files greater than 2GB, as well as a host of useful language features and tweaks, what does this version offer?

A few bug fixes for errors that should never have been introduced in the first place, a meager reduction in file sizes (no better than about 20%), and very little in the way of significant new features.

Perhaps for some users the few new features and fixes will be vital, but for me this is the first time that I'm seriously considering skipping an upgrade.

DEMOSTHENES  If it bothers you that much, you can reduce it to half the size by downloading the Intel or PPC specific versions from the web site.

DEMOSTHENES  FLASH1296, the issue that was resolved in this release does not relate to the bug you reported - apologies for any confusion.

I have not yet been able to determine what is causing your issue, and without being able to reproduce it, I am not certain that I will be able to fix it at this time.

DEMOSTHENES  Dual monitor support is planned for the next version. I've got a few ideas for how this could work, but please submit a feature request detailing your requirements so I can make sure that they're met. Click the link below to submit a request.

DEMOSTHENES  I had exactly the same thought - I suggest you take it up with REAL software :-\

If 15MB seems a bit much, you can get a version half the size if you download the standalone PPC or Intel version from the site:
