DAGWOOD This is a most welcome addition to the population of Mac OS X menu bar 'System Statistics' notification family. It works well, gives sufficient information on the individual systems monitored, and the individual menu items blend well on the menu bar with the current crop of Apple-spawned doo-dads. They are a good improvement on the well-received MenuMeters menu bar items which now look very dated on Leopard. (This is not to disparage the functionality of MenuMeters itself, which is an excellent mini-app.) There is, however, just one area with which I have grave reservations, and it is the interface of the actual drop-down menus themselves. Is the developer colour-blind? Why on God's good earth does he insist on using a black ground for all (excepting just one – the Calender) D/Ds? Where is the integration with the white grounds of all other members of the menu bar population? I have tried using iStat Menus for a while but this lack of integration with the Apple-supplied menu items just leaves me completely unable to take it seriously. I would even make a mini contribution to this developer's coffers if I felt there was an indication this huge (for me) interface breakdown were to be corrected. (Version 1.2) |
