CYBERATOMIC  Wow, $35.00 bucks for an upgrade license?

I'm sorry, but for how long this program has had signifigant bugs unanswered, and very little progress shown to the public, I'm just not sure that I want to spend the money to upgrade, even though I know I have to because of my already invested time and money.

That doesn't mean I have to like it though!

Hopefully the template editing has undergone a massive re-work (it's the most confusing and crappy system ever - especially a shame when the rest of the program seems to work the way you'd think it should)

[sigh]

FONGD  Yup, I have to echo the comments about the bugs and unanswered questions. I had a Billings developer even tell me he would get back to me regarding some performance-related bugs after several email exchanges (Billings generally uses about 50% of my CPU after it's been running for a few hours!) but I never heard back. I don't mind the upgrade price, but if I'm going to pay it, I want to know that the product will be supported. So far, I haven't been too impressed.

BUMBLEB  I totally agree. Both on the price and the awkward invoice design templating system.

The upgrade price should never be more than half of the full purchase. Otherwise it's like pissing the customer in the neck. I want to feel they like me as a customer and therefore lets me upgrade at less than what a new license would cost me.

Because, what are the new "whooha ka-bam" features??? I already have the basic feature set, so why would I wanna upgrade?

MarketCircle are certainly capitalists at heart, developers second.

CYBERATOMIC  Louka,

Don't mind them. If they have a stable release that they're currently using, then fine... they can "choose" to stay put at that version.

I for one, like seeing a developer push things out as soon as possible. The amount of development that this app had undergone is phenomenal. I remember this app when it was barely half of what it is today.

Keep up the great work, and feel free to push your updates whenever you like.

If anything, maybe go to a beta version system - where the latest and greatest go out as a beta designation?

Either way, I love seeing apps get updated like yours - it shows that you are motivated and eager to improve your application. This is WAY more than can be said of most applications nowadays.

CYBERATOMIC  Hmmm, I'm torn, because I love this app and it works soooo well in 7.9.8 - that unless there is some added functionality, I just don't see why it is worth $20 to upgrade to this version.

I mean, everything listed is simply a bugfix - which doesn't really warrant a full point release update. The automatic update feature is really more of a feature for the developer rather than the user - especially if you're using Sparkle.

I just don't get it... and I don't think I am going to upgrade because of it. Version 7.9.8 works fine, and I guess I'll stick with that...

CYBERATOMIC  Bummer... still no support for Firefox 3!

I was so excited to see this app show up with an update - and it was such a disappointment to see that it still didn't fix the support for FF3.

I am a huge fan of this app and have been using it forever - but unfortunately I also use Firefox 3 and because of that, I had to move to Bookdog which supports FF3.

Sad sad day.

CYBERATOMIC  Nice work. Favorites is going to be cool.

One suggestion, is to make the "hit area" larger for the stars. I sometimes have to make click twice to get a star to register - I think it's because the hit area is only on the star graphic itself..?

Keep up the great work.

(ps) you should set up a blog or some other form of correspondence for posting suggestions and feedback, rather than the comments here - it would be easier to follow.

You can email me from my website.

In fact, the window is not main key that why you have to click two times to set a star. However, try to download the beta again because I've just corrected this little bug.

If it is hard again to set a rate, tell me and I'll enlarge the stars view.

CYBERATOMIC  Ok, back again, after the earlier snafus. I must say, you're working your butt off, because it is coming along quite nicely.

It is just about there for me to use as a replacement of CoverSutra - the only feature missing is to scrobble to last.fm

If you could set up a login for last.fm in the prefs to scrobble played tracks to my last.fm account - man, fantastic!

Keep up the good work!

STEVE HODGSON  You don't need a third party app to fix this. Move the application to the desktop and open the package contents. Open info.plist in a good text editor and add the following new key.

LSUIElement

1

Move the application back and relaunch. It will now have no application menu or Dock icon.

1. You need to move the application to force the OS to recognise the change.

2. The new key is surrounded by HTML-like tags i.e. key and /key within < and > characters. The '1' is surrounded by string and /string enclosed within similar brackets. Experience has taught me that these might be stripped off this post!

***..

CYBERATOMIC  Seems pretty cool - however, it needs a few things before it will replace CoverSutra which I use instead.

1) It is buggy (I know it's a beta) it seems unresponsive and slow. I clicked for the control window with ctr-apple-s, and the window came up.. I then tried to control the song, rate it, etc.. and the controller window stopped working. There was no way to quit the application either. I ended up having to kill the process through the terminal. So much for TotalTunes Controln - heh.

2) It needs to be able to interface with LastFM to scrobble my recent played items.

It's a good start, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

CYBERATOMIC  Please beware of this version - apparently this is NOT a free upgrade for existing users - and not only does this new version cost more money, but apparently there is no upgrade path either.

Lastly, this and previous versions run okay in Leopard - but NOTE: the latest version 2.7.5 DOES NOT RUN IN LEOPARD!!!

This means that if you blindly upgrade your 2.0+ version, it will not work in Leopard until you pay for a version 3 license at the full $20 rate.

Also, there is apparently no way to get a version previous to 2.7.5 so that you can continue to run it in Leopard... so if you have a copy previous to 2.7.5, you better hold on to it.

I'd love to be corrected here, so please ObPark, please update your site, and fix this problem...

Thanks!

ROBIN LANDSBERT  If your iTunes database is on an external drive you will have to open the database manually as I only look in your Music folder/iTunes folder. Select Open from the file menu and navigate to your external drive. You are looking for iTunes Music Library.xml. You may need to select "All Documents" to grey in the file. Once this file is open the application should work as normal.

One of which is where a machine is being accessed remotely.

Or if it is running headless.

I've also found using the alt key to be tricky, if the keyboard is a Windows style keyboard.

This utility might not have a wide audience, but it can be a time saver.

CoverSutra
May 16 2007

CYBERATOMIC  As an ex-Synergy user, I am completely amazed by this application. It is stunningly simple but does most everything I need.

My only request is for the application to have a setting that automatically opens and hides iTunes and accordingly quits iTunes upon quitting of CoverSutra. I have hacked this together with a small applescript application that check to see if iTunes is running, and if not, opens it. If either itunes is quit or CoverSutra, the script also quits both programs simultaneously. My code for this, if anyone else is interested in this functionality, looks like this:

------- Save this as an application and then run/quit this application and it will basically do that above mentioned feature. --------

tell application "iTunes"

activate

tell application "CoverSutra"

activate

end tell

end tell

on idle

tell application "System Events"

if exists application process "iTunes" then

if not (exists application process "CoverSutra") then

tell application "CoverSutra" to activate

end if

end if

if not (exists application process "iTunes") then

if exists application process "CoverSutra" then

tell application "CoverSutra" to quit

end if

end if

end tell

return 5

end idle

on quit

tell application "iTunes" to quit

tell application "CoverSutra" to quit

continue quit

end quit

CYBERATOMIC  Might want to wait, as this developer likes to bring out a new version of the same program, add the term "Advanced" to it, and then charge more money for it.

While this developer created an awesome thing called WinSwitch, I would recommend using CoverSutra instead of Synergy - this comes from someone who has used both and has a license for both. Save your money!
