Things

CRUSTY  I've tried quite a few GTD apps, but this one is the first one that I've used for more than a couple days. OmniFocus is also good, but I like Things' UI more. Everything is laid out intuitively. Within a couple minutes, you can be up and running without ever reading a manual or help file.

I'm looking forward to seeing the final product and will most likely buy a copy when it's released.

Connect360

CRUSTY  I recently bought my Xbox 360 and was looking for a way to share the music on my Mac with it. I found Connect360 and tried it out.

Installation was snap! It automatically opened the right ports up in my firewall. It immediately found my Xbox and enabled sharing for my music, movies and pictures. It literally took about one minute from download to sharing music with my Xbox.

The demo limits you to 100 songs and 100 photos, which is good enough to try it out. I've already bought a license for it and now I can play all my music. Well, not ALL my music. I can't play music I bought on iTMS without converting them all to MP3. Not a huge deal really.

Overall, if you've got a Mac and an Xbox 360, this is an excellent way to link them up.

World of Warcraft

*****

CRUSTY  This is the only game I've ever played that still keeps me entertained more than a year after I first started. That alone makes it well worth the investment.

With this latest release, I can now play WoW natively on my Intel iMac. It plays very well too. All settings are bumped and I rarely drop below 30 fps. It blows my PC out of the water.

The only gripe I have against it is there's a slight humming sound in my headphones while playing. I'm not sure if that's just WoW or the iMac itself.

Other than that, this game has been, and will continue to be, one of my favorite games of all time.

Path Finder
Jan 15 2006

CRUSTY  I'm not sure why it's slow for you. I'm running it on an 800 MHz iMac with 512MB RAM. It's a lot faster than the old version and feels as fast as Finder.

In fact, this is the first version that is fast enough (and good looking enough) to keep me interested.

Firefox

CRUSTY  I have the same problem, and they're not stored inside the bookmarkbackups directory. They're in the default profile directory. I had over 30 of them when I checked, and I don't use Firefox that often.

This definitely seems to be a problem.

LaunchBar

CRUSTY  You're correct that Quicksilver is in beta, but that doesn't mean it's going to be shareware later. The developer has stated on the site it will be open source once their original vision for the app is complete.

I agree with others, while LaunchBar is an excellent app, Quicksilver is just that much better, and it's just beta.

Firefox

CRUSTY  I've had no problems with Firefox so far. It opens up MUCH faster than Safari 1.2 on my computer. In fact, Safari became so doggy that I ditched it in favor of Mozilla. I tried everything I knew to increase the speed of Safari, but nothing worked. And if I left it open long enough, it would start eating RAM.

Firefox is just as fast as Safari used to be and loads faster than Mozilla. Since I never used anything in Mozilla other than the browser, Firefox has now become my default browser. It's certainly worth trying out.
