JumpBox for Tracks Task Management
Sep 10 2009

COUNTPOLLEN  What a surprise, this website is MacUpdate.

This "application" requires a virtual machine, and is thus not a Mac application.

I'm actually annoyed by this.

Post it in another forum please.

RMENDES  Many applications on MU also don't serve my needs. Just because, doesn't mean they shouldn't be here.

JumpBoxes are very interesting. You don't have virtualization software? Many Mac OS X users do, and really could what this article (and others as such) provide.

Bottom line, you're comment was just inappropriate.

ChocoFlop
Sep 8 2009

COUNTPOLLEN  After the "I give up" message in the last update (08 sept. 2009) I just have to add:

For everybody using an intel mac (core duo or higher), running Leopard: give up using ChocoFlop!

There are better applications that do more.

After all, ChocoFlop started as an aqua port of "the Gimp", which is still actively maintained.

For the developer: pity to have paid once for an application that was hardly updated at all.

Fragmenta

COUNTPOLLEN  Name of application posted is not Contrepoint but Fragmenta.

Last update to version 2.5 was on 25th of august 2008 according to developer website.

What is this? A joke?

DANA SUTTON  Probably a developer's screwup rather than a joke. Notice that although the last posting is 2008 the page has a 2009 copyright.

Potion theme

COUNTPOLLEN  Looks nice, but it is not an application.

I find it quite strange that now and then RapidWeaver themes are posted as if they were an update...

COUNTPOLLEN  Mac OS Dock is one of the easiest aspects of OS X that one could learn.

While this application (uBar) is a nice proof of concept I thoroughly dislike the idea.

For an application I've never even seen a beta of, I think the $15 price is steep, especially because it doesn't offer everything the built-in Dock has to offer. This is most certainly true after the recent Snow Leopard upgrade.

And come on, why would a mac user want to have that totally pointless "Start" button.

To shut down the computer?

On the other hand, if this application would go in beta with added functionality, it could bring some interesting additions to the Dock.

BRAWERSOFT  I don't have the resources to go through a long beta phase, but I promise active and rapid development to get it up to grade.

It is true that it does not do everything that the dock does yet, but I am diligently working to change that. Part of the difficulty is that Apple uses private SPIs (as opposed to APIs) for the Dock, effectively making it very difficult for anybody to make an alternative to the Dock. For example, only the Dock can talk to the Windowserver and make it do certain things. I am working on getting around this.

The Start menu will get much more features very quickly. Right now it's main use is to get to Applications.

Thanks for you feedback!

Mighty Mouse

COUNTPOLLEN  This beta supposedly installs application enhancer is it is not yet installed on your system.

It doesn't do that, which caused my system to hang after login.

Luckily I have a firewire harddisk with a leopard install to boot from.

To remove the problem causer remove the mighty mouse preference pane and the mighty mouse file in ~/Library/Application enhancers.

COUNTPOLLEN  After installation, which appeared to be alright, my macbook pro (early 2008) wouldn't reboot normally.

The installed screwed up my system.

After checking the boot camp partition and repairing permissions for OS X (using install DVD) I could finally boot normally.

I am really happy that I have my files back and would like to request a method for the restoration of Apache setting before the installer destroyed it.

I can't recommend the application to anyone right now.

Use Flickr, BubelShare or Picasa and save yourself the misery.

ANONYMOUS  Hi,

changes done in Apache settings definitely can't prevent your Mac from booting. I would even say, although I can't check it, that any change in Apache settings won't prevent your Mac from booting.

You may have had an other issue related to system permissions.

COUNTPOLLEN  Why pay for a bad ripoff of a MS Windows Vista screensaver.

I'd rather compile the good old linux screensavers for mac.

It's a bad thing to steal and I really don't think that anybody is waiting to see these...

Cheerio!

Good luck coming up with something original.

Rohos Logon Key
Nov 5 2008

COUNTPOLLEN  This software is unsafe (could lose usb stick) and thus not recommendable.

Further, I think that it is also quite unnecessary.

Another minus is that you lose a precious usb port for the key.

Several other negative posts on forums can be found by a simple web search.

Fingerprint security built in to MacBook (Pro)'s would be nicer.

MISTERLISTER  You may find it unnecessary or unsafe, but many other people feel there is a need for such a thing, in fact, it's not the only product of its type.

ROHOZ  Version 1.4.3 doesnt require to keep USB stick in USB port always (due to 'nothing' removal action). With this option you need to plug usb key only to login/unlock. Also if you lost USB key you can still login with a password or a second USB key.

To make Rohos more safer - use option 'Activate password protected screensaver upon usb stick removal'.

FMAXWELL  If you think that USB ports are "precious," you need a cheaper hobby or more income. The computer stores practically give away USB hubs. Every wired Apple keyboard has at least one.

If you are so concerned about losing the key (but not forgetting a password, apparently), then make a duplicate USB key. It's not like USB thumb drives are expensive. Small ones can be had for just a few dollars (I picked up some 256K drives for $3.99, threw away the drives, and kept the lanyards, which is all I bought them for).
