CLAUCLAU  It's really rare i even bother to comment the useless add-ons that storms around itunes, which I end up to use just itunes.

But actually this can be a total replacement to the heavyweight itunes as well as for nonsense lastfm player. It has also a good potential to be a replacement for AOL radio and iLike player in the next stage.

Besides, lastfm has become payment subscription based, iLike player spaces out a lot more compared to lastfm.

Good work.

as some user on macupdate reported that macte installer sneaks a little bit anywhere on the computer.

I also used the Glims unisntaller, I can't tell where the problem is although my humble long experience.

MACHANGOUT  Problem fixed. Sorry for the confusion. In order to work on Snow Leopard, Glims has to be an OSAXen plugin, aka Script Addition, which behaves a little differently from Input Managers, we fixed the uninstaller accordingly. Also it would be nice if you could contact us through the report form on our site, we really would like to get feedback on our software, and know what you think we should improve for future versions (beside the uninstaller).

DVDSP SubPick

***..

CLAUCLAU  I could find this program on google only by typing "extract DVDsp" etc etc...

Googleing "import" xxx didn't work.

Pretty simple, pretty efficient, pretty fast.

BUT, at least on this version:

1) Once exported, subtitles don't show up on quicktime first time.

So I just import it on anoter program, type a mistak and undo in order to resave it. then the file gets read correctly by quicktime.

2) Exporting to .srt is great but subs go out of time altough. Maybe because 30fps 29.97, 25fps options are lacking ?

At least it's good that I extracted those subtitles. I will find a solution for the rest at the moment.

Keep up the good work !

CLAUCLAU  About itunes 9.0:

In addition on what's written below about the missing feature (64 bit, FLV, MKV, FLAC, and so get rid of of Quicktime forever etc) I must say that if every little detail added to itunes guys must be present ahead such a pompous show such as a keynote for it I guess we must wait for next 23 keynotes in order to meet customers or at least keep the pace with the technology like at least external Blu-Ray support or Video Transmission on a TV without adding one more box on top of the useless digital terrestrial receiver and a sinth/amplifier in our smaller and smaller flats. Also about integrating a true DJ console:

How about instead wasting time into redesign the skin?

Or adding a couple of visualizers?

Or making mini controller harder to switch than before, say by option-clicking on the green traffic light button?

**...

CLAUCLAU  Considering I've been using os x since 10.1 puma, I still have to say 10.3 was the fastest.

Beside spotlight doesn't work at all and won't find any invisible files. just try your own.

Whoever used 10.3 search function (no, not sherlock), knows what I am talking about.

Preview and Quicklook don't work with all the files. Only with very few.

I can't skip back and forth on the video preview so I either have to use quicklook or open Quicktime which can be annoying when browsing many files. Looks a small thing, but it is actually a big deal at the end of the day. People who are familiar with some serious workflow know.

ANYWAY I just want you to know that I never had any permission problems or any other sort after an update, well this is the first:

Tested with 2 macbooks late 2008 13": USB ports have lower power and devices can't connect properly right after updating to 10.5.8, previously it was ok. As stuff was and still is always plugged in. Just try to connect a mouse or an hard drive and you'll see.

MISHA  Tried deleting all your iChat prefs and stuff?

You might want to run iChat through Koingo's Amnesia uninstaller. Let it clean out all the associated files, but tell it not to actually delete the iChat app itself. Then set it back up again.

Or, you might have a Firewall or filter (LittleSnitch) set up that is blocking connections to oscar.aol.com ...

iConcertCal
Apr 4 2009
*****

CLAUCLAU  Sure it's a handy application.

But I tend to point out what's missing mostly, maybe in order to give a possible good input.

So basically what this application does is to show is to scan the itunes library / Favourite artists and show the upcoming concerts. That would be 870 songs in the itunes Library at least. 1 song for each artist.

It could be smart enough eventually to reveal some cover bands playing (say for example Ella Fizgerald cover band), but it won't recommend any other band which would play the same style of that kind of music. On the other hand this iConcertCal would avoid sudden gigs that you wished you would have gone, but you couldn't plan for. Unlike LastFM gigometer, which even restricts the search by town.

Sure is that both of these applications avoid signing up to newsletters resulting in a huge amount of email notifications.

Name Mangler
Mar 5 2009
*****

CLAUCLAU  I used r-name which still is useful for pre Leopard users: maybe this is the only downside of Name Mangler.

But R-name is disappeared.

I have a camera which everytime i swap SD card, it renames files from zero. And there is no option to avoid it.

Therefore once I download files in one folder, OS X creates a file-001 and files-001 2 in order to avoid asking that a file with that name (from the previous SD card) already exist.

OS X understands it that is probably not the same video and therefore silently makes this trick.

Now problem is, that when renaming files chronologically I have to list files by date of creation, as in other view mode, they're sorted alphabetically. When I then drag the files to any software like Automator or others to rename them, these files get messed up, therefore renaming task useless.

Name Mangler smartly override this problem, and lets you sort the files in any order you want. This app is not a simple stuff:

This app made my day.

PS I know i wrote like somebody who got paid, but no, i am a simple user.

Yahoo! Messenger

*....

CLAUCLAU  It would have been easier and quicker for Yahoo to co operate with Apple way before than Google, as Yahoo has valuable designers and services are intuitive and unified all over what they acquire.

But when it comes to Mac, here comes the problems:

-slow application,

-Cpu hungry

-when disconnected/connected HUD appears all the time,

-no file transfer on msn users,

-nor avatars,

-sometimes I write to yahoo users and they also don't get the messages as well.

-Big MSN incompatibility warning shows up ahead every time message session begins.

-No Multilanguage support: I even proposed to translate it, can't care less. World is flat and starts from NYC and ends to LA as usual.

-No video Multi chat support like iChat.

-no screensharing

-no avatar drag and drop (must go to preferences)

-no multi avatar window pops up

That's all for now folks.

CLAUCLAU  Nice application,

I wish it could remember the provider settings by default when I recall the widget back from its "dormient" dashboard dock without re selecting all the time.

The developer is very careful to details and make this widget as compat as possible, if we see the many features it includes (proxy, language choice, colours and modules update), really clever.

It gets truly frustrating on Alice on alice account:

no service wrong key code when it's not,

sometime i have to retype the password in the account to make it work again, but by looking at the many updates the developer released, tracking up the constant changes of the main providers, i assume it's Alice itself causing this annoyance giving a hard time to the developer.

I never received 2 replies involving foreign language support (which was useful for the development of this program).

Beside the very nice icon, Pando's interface and features seem at the same early stage of podmailer development, and get worse on Windows:

meanwhile podmailer preserves the same interface on both Win and Mac (with a simple interface which is well balanced with its simple features)

Pando for windows fills the screen with questions and warnings and gets into everything,

(if you want to). More popups and so on.
