CHRISWAN  This is what I have been doing to 'fix' that: you need to move the slimmed app(s) outside their current folder, and then move it back

Or you put the app on the desktop, slim it using XSlimmer, and then move it to the applications folder

CHRISWAN  Well, I believe most people will only use one language; So I think it's more practical to have one app one language implementation, They can save a lot of bandwidth accumulatively (it's free and it's downloaded by millions of people, every byte saving counts); Localizations can makes an app unnecessarily large

CHRISWAN  You don't have to update everytime they release an update, the old version still work well, go buy the upgrade after 3-4 revisions

I hope people will understand with the explanation above, that this need to be done to reduce abuse from non paying 'customers' and to cover a small percentage of the bandwidth cost (A few hundreds MB might not much, but multiply it with hundreds or ten thounsands, one will ended with significant cost (especially if most of them are freeloaders))

And it's not like you guys pay the full price... Most of you complainers got the software from recent MUPromo bundle right? What's with this sense of entitlement?

CHRISWAN  As an utility pack licensee, I found that the license for V9 already added to my account without me asking for it, and I'm really grateful for this

However I really wish that the owners of V8 won't left in cold, they should get the crucial bug fixes (I'm not asking for fancy new features), in maybe 1-2 last point updates; so they can finally get a complete product they deserve

I'm sure most of these people are the real customers (pay full price) instead the majority of Utility Pack users who got the pack from Mac software bundles

Most of the positive reviews came from members with single post, some of them are obviously came from Eastern Europe countries (where the developer came from)

CHRISWAN  Could significantly improve performance on regularly used Macs

In general if it has been used for about 4-6 months (download, browsing, working with, many larger than, 20MB files) and have less than 30% free HDD space, this app can improve the performance of your Mac

But, as with marriage and tax evasion, your mileage may vary...

I would like to see individual file defragmentation and file/folder exclusion in future versions (it's already there, but you have to do some scripting, which is not my kind of thing, I'm expecting simple checkboxex and stuffs)

Highly recommended

CHRISWAN  I got this as a part of recent MUPromo bundle

The defrag algorithm need some improvement

It need to fill the beginning of the disk with system files instead of filling it with random files

I was surprised to see a 600MB file of Wing Nuts 2 data file put at the beginning of the disk

I use competitor's defrag app I already have to sort it out, it can put important system files at the beginning of the disk, and left some empty space in case Mac OS X would like to fill it in with whatever files it sees fit

GORDON BELL  Hi there-

Yes, we got a lot of feedback from our users in terms of new features they'd like to see added to Drive Genius, so we're excited to have the new DriveSlim™ function as a free update.. It does do the Universal Binary removal and language support removal (like Xslim), but it also does other stuff like Duplicate File scan (with deletion of duplicates, we put alias' in their place), Large File Scan (find old video files and other files you might not realize are even on your drive, and delete them easily), Cache/Temp File Scan (delete them easily... We even have Orphan File scan (must use expert user preferences, discussed in the manual.. Due to nature of Orphan File scan, we really don't promote that use for most users..

We are excited to add all these new features at no cost to Drive Genius 2 users, and we'll continue to improve Drive Genius, add new features and power, and take care of our customers as best we can.. This is the same philosophy we followed when we offered the new Leopard Boot DVD at no charge to all our Drive Genius 2 customers.. We even paid for the shipping of the free DVD, which is kind of unheard of I think nowadays. We do appreciate all the feedback, constructive criticism, bug reports, new feature ideas and support...

Cheers,

Gordon from Prosoft-

Things
Jan 7 2008

CHRISWAN  Please note that while Things is free until its final release in Spring 2008, it now uses an expiration date of April 15, 2008. If you want to continue using Things 0.8.5 for free even beyond its final release, then you should make a backup of the application before you download and install this or future updates.

That's what the updater said when I tried to update to 0.8.6 from 0.8.5

CHRISWAN  IMHO, the best overall Note management app which doesn't cost a dime (donation requested)

I always coming back to this app, after trying other similar apps

Too bad the main/GUI icon and overall interface hasn't been optimized for Leopard...

Really looking forward for next release

PulpMotion
Dec 14 2007

CHRISWAN  I played for a while with PulpMotion, now I know why it is the 'ultimate' locked app in current MacUpdate Bundle

It blows away other featured 'locked' apps, decently priced, yet allow us to install on 2 computers
(Version 1.4.7)

CHRISWAN  Great program,

Use the optimize algorithm once in a while and the quick algorithm every 2-3 weeks to keep my Mac in tip top shape

technical support is good (fast and friendly)
