CHRIS HABIG  This program is a total, ineffective waste of time. Free memory is by definition memory that isn't being used. There is no way that unused memory can make the system or any particular application faster.

KRYSTOF VASA  That's not exactly true. When an app need memory, it requests it and when there is enough of RAM memory, it gets it. If not, swapping comes to place. The OS writes some memory that hasn't been used for a while to the hard drive (typically) -> frees memory for the app requesting the memory.

So, when you know you won't be using anything but one app and you need to give it all the performance you can get, this is the app you need - e.g. presenting something with Photoshop. However, I do believe that a regular user has no usage in this, but I'm not saying it's trash either.

CHRIS HABIG  Considering the following:

1. Preview already does just about every single thing this app claims to do.

2. The app is an ugly Windows port.

3. They want $60 dollars for it!!

I can't recommend this application.

EDENWAITH  Secure Empty Trash uses the 7-pass DoD algorithm to erase over the data in your Trash.

Permanent Eraser ups this level by using the 35-pass Gutmann Method when overwriting your data. Permanent Eraser's other advantages over using the Secure Empty Trash are that PE can erase selected files, instead of only those in the Trash and it can also erase CD-RWs and DVD-RWs.

CHRIS HABIG  I've been using the program since day 1. It's small, does it's job, and does it well. Integration with Address Book is good. Printed envelopes look outstanding.

CHRIS HABIG  A dumb concept for users, a great concept for marketing. But why would I want to keep an application running just to watch for fare sales on Southwest (not known for great service, btw). This should have been a dashboard widget.

JORDY  Not sure why you are having problems in version 2.1. The widget always keeps track and updates to whatever you set it to. The growl notification works in unison with it. The only time you will loose your tracked item is on a restart/shutdown and that's only because you can't add a search result into a preference. Putting your Mac in sleep mode, should retain your tracked item. If you are having a different problem please get in touch and we'll try to help.

ERIC BOEHNISCH-VOLKMANN  It doesn't appear in the Services menu. It simply enables Cocoa applications such as TextEdit or our DEVONthink to open PDF files and convert them on-the-fly to RTF. It's a faceless file converter.

ANONYMOUS  Unless I'm mistaken, unlike Roni, QuickTime doesn't offer free upgrades. In fact, unless something has changed in recent history, as soon as you download a new verion of QuickTime, you lose your pro level license. I can recall paying for QT5 Pro a matter of days before it automatically upgraded to version 6 standard. Ron wouldn't do that to me!

Adobe Reader
Dec 22 2004

CHRIS HABIG  There is no setup dialog. The catch is that what is downloaded is the installer, which just happens to have the same name as the application (not smart on Adobe's part). Every time you run the installer you are installing another copy of the app in your Applications folder. Delete the installer and all but one of your Adobe Reader folders and you'll be fine.

CHRIS HABIG  This is great compared to version 6. It launches about as quickly as Preview, and once running seems to operate fast too. It is more bloated than Preview but is very full featured. Works great for me. I too had a generic icon after installation, but rebuilding the LS Database (using Panther Cache Cleaner) fixed that. No other problems at all. Highly recommended.

CHRIS HABIG  This app looks promising. But although I have 2538 songs in my library, it could only find 976. More work will be needed before it's truly useful.

CHRIS HABIG  I realize a lot of people are reporting problems with Wacom's driver, but it's working flawlessly for me in 10.3.2. Before installation I removed the old driver and it's application folder from /Applications. This newer driver is configured through System Preferences and doesn't require any applications.
