CHAKARANDA  Very Nice!

If only it worked ;-(...it won't even startup on my computer (MDD FW800 Dual 1.25 Ghz running OSX 10.4.5)

Tried it on at testdrive with 10.4.4 as well..no luck there either

It doesn't even come up with a "...unexpectedly quit" sign or anything :-(

CHAKARANDA  You're absolutely right!

I apologize if my comment seemed like turning your work down, that was in no way my intention. (nor to turn you down..)

My comment was just a reflection over past and present...and how incredibly little we've actually gained from all this "fantastic" bigger, faster etc. hardware

CHAKARANDA  OMG!

It sure feels like being back in the "good" ol' PPC/68k days ;-)

Makes me think 'bout what actually happened/improved since then?

well not much! My mac can do just about the same tasks now as it could back then...only thing that improved slightly is the speed in some tasks! (but not definately not all)

and the "resolution" meaning a bit better/higher quality on video & audio, and generally the computer is a bit faster..

Seems to me that these new OS'es is eating up most of all the extra CPU power we've got since back then? ..!

back then stripping out the unwanted extra code would make apps load a lot faster...:-)

now well erh stripping out a few MB of code when you've got GigaBytes's of RAM and min. 0.x TeraBytes HD space..does it make a difference?

GREGW  Granted hard drives are huge now, I think I'm not alone in resenting applications that take up space on my machine with content from which I cannot benefit. Imagine being able to reduce the footprint of your whole installed set of apps by 20%. It adds up to a fair amount of space that you can use for data or for other apps. A prior commenter, for example, noted that stripping one architecture out of iTunes saved about 8MB - or about 8 minutes worth of music.

It might be especially of interest to notebook users, for whom internal expansion is quite limited (and for iBooks non-trivial) and external expansion inconvenient.

GREGW  No problems; I didn't take it as a dig. It's a fair question that deserved a straight answer.

Actually, we really do have much more powerful machines and systems in our hands. It's just that our expectations have grown at least as fast. Remember waiting a weekend for a ray tracer to render one 640x480 image - and remember that it "only" took a weekend to do it?
