CASTLE This has become my default media player, though VLC is sometimes needed for trickier files. The only thing I really miss from VLC, though, is the 10 second jump when hitting an arrow key/the forward button. MPlayer seems to jump about 1 minute, and you have to hold alt to get a short jump. Any chance of getting a way to specify the jump duration? (Version rev11)

STTZ We're talking about the keyboard keys and not the buttons in the player window, right? In the player window you need to press alt to skip 10s. If you're using the keyboard, left-arrow/right-arrow skip 10s and that cannot be modified by a modifier key. Though, MPlayer always skips to the next keyframe and so you never get exactly the time you tell it to skip. In the file I just tried it e.g. skipped about 15 seconds on each press. If you have a file with only very few keyframes, the skip duration could be longer. There's currently no way to change that, though. (Version rev11)

SATYRICA I think Unison is dead. 2.0 should have been dev'd and released a year ago. Unison *was* cool in 2007. There are so many ignored feature requests, and approaching 2 years without an update, it's clear the guys at Panic really don't give a crap. Sad. (Version 1.8.1)

Rivet | Aug 20 2009 |
CASTLE Loved Rivet, paid for it and it worked a treat with my router setup. Now I'm trying to get Rivet to work with my Xbox via sharing my Mac's internet with it. No dice. According to the Rivet forums this isn't possible with Rivet. But it is with Connect 360. Wasted $20. Well, I did use Rivet for a month or so, so not totally wasted, but if you want to share your Mac's internet with your Xbox you'll want Connect 360, not Rivet. (Version 2.2)

CASTLE I really don't get how the developer has been rude. In fact, JakStat, you're been really quite rude several times. You've also accused him of stealing code, but offered no evidence. You seem to have some vendetta against this developer and haven't said anything to justify it. More than 10,000 people have considered Fiwi interesting and potentially useful enough to download it. CASTLE After running Dock Spaces my Spaces had been cut down to 4. I tried to go into System Preferences to change them back, but my Spaces is badly messed up. First, no windows would appear at all. KRAL2 I ran on the same bug. It happen when you have applications assigned to spaces higher than 4, and DockSpaces throw away theses spaces (without any warning). You can correct the mess editing plist files. Use Pref Setter for that task, it's very handy. You can view my post about that with screenshots showing where and what to edit at http://materialboys.fr/2008/11/pref-setter-au-secours-de-dockspaces/ It's in French but screenshots explain it well enought. I solved my problem this way. Hope it will help someone around there. (Version 2.10)

Bee Docs Timeline 3D | Oct 23 2008 |
CASTLE No problem projecting the timeline here (though I've only tried with mirrored displays). What I would like to see, though, are more advanced (or at least easier) printing options, so a long timeline can be scaled down, exporting to Flash would also be great, and the ability to prioritise certain events, so on really busy timelines some events don't get pushed off the page. The keys used to navigate through a 3D timeline are also strange — I'd like to be able to hit the space bar to move to the next event on a timeline in 3D mode. Perhaps allow the user to define the keys? A great app, but surprisingly few options. (Version 2.2)

CASTLE I got Hazel in the recent MacUpdate bundle. I'd not have bought it normally, but thought I'd give it a go since it was essentially free. I rarely used it and quickly forgot about it. However, over the past month or two I'd been finding that my computer would become very unresponsive when it was under heavy strain - far more so than it used to when under the same conditions. I finally found time to troubleshoot the issue, and after a lot of trial and error I discovered that uninstalling Hazel significantly improved performance on my MacBook Pro. I'd forgotten it was there and it didn't cause any noticeable spikes in Activity Monitor, but uninstalling it made a HUGE difference to the speed of my machine. (Version 2.2)

CASTLE This is in desperate need of a full update. The program is still great, and I keep trying it to see if it does the things I want to convince me to part with my cash, but it's been a long time since it was released. It was one of the most beautiful and simple apps on the Mac when it came out, but now many apps have passed it in both respects. I'd love to see a more persistent download queue (if I put something in the queue it means I want it - I shouldn't have to manually requeue things if there's an error), previewing of movies within Unison, more thread sorting options, and generally a better awareness of how usenet really works these days. RarMe | Apr 24 2006 |
CASTLE With the release of SimplyRAR I'm getting a few questions about the status of RarMe. There are three points to be addressed: Firsty, RarMe has no been abandoned but is not in active development. Updates will happen only when I find the time, which is not very often. Secondly, people are asking why SimplyRAR doesn't require RAR to be installed and RarMe does. The answer is simply that the RAR license prohibits such distribution of RAR without the author's written permission. Despite several requests I've never even managed to get a response from the authors of RAR, let alone permission. SimplyRAR presumably had better luck. Until I do get written permission I will continue to respect the RAR license and distribute RarMe without RAR included. Thirdly, (RANT ON) the slowness of RarMe development is partly due to the lack of donations. I don't say this out of greed - anyone who bothered to click on the Donate tab will have seen that I don't ask for donations to be sent to me, but to several charitable causes I support. I don't feel hugely inspired to put work in on RarMe when so few people support these important causes. Just $1 to any of the listed charities will make a difference. If we all put more support in to causes like these I guarantee you the world would be a better place.(/RANT OFF) (Version 0.5)
