CALIXTUS  While basically Version is nice client for the (mostly not very advanced) things I do with Subversion, I am increasingly disappointed at the speed of development, especially given the (comparatively high) price tag.

Versions works and is stable, but it still hinders my workflow in certain situations. For instance, it still only has an "Open" contextual menu entry, but not "Open with ..." (yes, I mailed the developer about it a long time ago). It still creates a text clipping containing the path when I drag & drop an item onto the Desktop (of course, the path is useful when dropping an item onto a Terminal window, but why whould I want a clipping in the Finder?) and does not export the item (yes, I know I can do it in the CM, but why not offer both?). When I select "Add working copy bookmark", it still does not add the bookmark below the repository bookmark currently selected, but somewhere else. And it still asks whether it should delete the filesystem folder for a bookmark I deleted, even that folder does not exist any longer in the filesystem.

CALIXTUS  It's not more complicated than with version 1: tell your favourite hotkey utility to launch Plain Clip, and that's it.

Only if you need different shortcuts for different types of text cleaning (for instance, one which will only remove formatting and another one that will additionally remove trailing whitespace, control characters and line breaks) you have to deal with calling the shell script.

CALIXTUS  Within the first 5 minutes of testing I found that:

– There don't seem to be shortcuts even for the most common tasks. You can't even press Cmd-F to get to the searchfield or Cmd-N to create a new task or project.

– I didn't find a way to delete projects or tasks.

– You can't reorder project or tasks.

– Some other minor issues

The problem is not that this application doesn't offer many features, but that the features are not well implemented and the app is incomplete. It looks like someone played around with CoreData and never really used this application. Anything I else I tried in the last two years in the field of project management / to-do management / GTD etc. not only offers more features, but also better usability—and I think that’s devastating for an application that aims to be “clean an simple”.
