BRUCEANDERSON  Part of Safari is running in the system itself, so its initial launch time is shorter. Firefox has to bootstrap itself. After the first launch after a reboot FF should start about as quickly as Safari does.

But I'm wondering how often do you restart your computer for this to be a significant issue?

BRUCEANDERSON  Yesterday XLD (latest version) crashed. Since then it's been behaving erratically. I deleted the application, the cache and preferences, but it's still behaving weirdly. Sometimes it behaves normally, but sometimes it refuses to encode files I drop on it. Just a few minutes ago, it wouldn't respond to the "OK" button after editing tags.

Is there another file I need to delete somewhere? I transcode lots of music, and I have come to rely on XLD - it's simple and (until yesterday) just worked. I'll do a nuke & pave if I have to, but I'd rather not have to go through that process if I can avoid it.

Thanks!

BRUCEANDERSON  Awesome update! I had two older torrents which weren't moving at all, and since updating to 1.72 they're downloading just fine. Thank you!

BRUCEANDERSON  Thanks for your reply. It's really strange though - I've been through every option I could find in Toast, but I missed that one. Thanks! It's nice to know I can do that if need be.

PMFINE  Commenting on how to stop the CDFinder Cat function in Toast.

Pretty sure It is under RECORDER in menu, down to Recorder Settings, Advanced Tab and then uncheck the "Catalog Disk Contents". My reference was Toast v9 but it may be in other older versions and of course newer too.

BRUCEANDERSON  I just burned two data CDs to be delivered to a client and I noticed CDFinder launched automatically after each burn to index the discs. How do I stop this? I can't find any setting in Toast which would do this, and I can't find any setting in CDFinder that would do this either. This seems like the sort of thing the user ought to be able to control.

What the heck is going on?

NORBERT M. DOERNER  Please read the FAQ at http://www.cdfinder.de/en/en/faq.htmlit has an entry for that.

Essentially, you had turned that feature on in Rocxio Toast, and you can turn if off there again.

This is also covered with a screenshot in the extensive CDFinder Users Guide :-)

BRUCEANDERSON  "Added option for batch conversion to split file with embedded cue sheet automatically"

OK, how does this work? I've got some FLACs here with embedded cue sheets but I can't figure out how to make XLD see them. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Transmission

BRUCEANDERSON  I notice that Transmission doesn't always respect my upload cap. I have my uploads capped at 175k/s, but it will frequently jump to 220k/s for a second or two and then drop back down again. Usually stays where it's supposed to be, but sometimes it will fluctuate between the two speeds several times a minute for an hour at a time. It doesn't actually effect my Internet use, but it's puzzling. Has anyone else experienced this?

BRUCEANDERSON  Huh. I thought SafariStand 3 could disable GIF animations. Maybe I'm thinking of an earlier version.

BRUCEANDERSON  Good point. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it'll be in the final version! Of course it would be nice if Apple would just provide us borderline epileptics with the ability to disable GIF animations ourselves so we wouldn't have to rely on third parties to give us the relief we need.

BRUCEANDERSON  I'm glad to see SafariStand updated for Safari 4 Beta, but I can't find the option to disable GIF animations. Has this function been removed? I hope not, because I need this option to make Safari usable for me. :(

F451  This version appears to be a work in progress so there are features that are not yet completed. I do not see the animation feature in the settings so it may or may not be gone.

SJK  AFAIK none of the Safari plugins for Safari 3/4 support disabling GIF animations; it seems to be a tough issue to resolve.

SJK  Here, the "Kill Gif Animation" option is dimmed-out under the General tab in the SafariStand Setting window of SS 3.1L161; you can read the text but can't (dis|en)able it. Not sure about earlier versions because I was using PithHelmet's "Animate Images: Once" option (ideal for me) before that (and machete scripts, alas) broke with Safari 3. I vaguely remember reading it's similar with Saft, too. The Glims feature list doesn't mention anything about support animation blocking, which I'd think it would if it was possible.

That's some background behind my earlier "tough issue to resolve" remark.
