BRITONIUS Sorry, my intent was not to take her to task, but I just didn't understand the logic of faulting the software for things it has no control over and for providing a backup to protect the user against faults with other software. I apologize if it seemed to come off wrong as I was just trying to understand. (Version 4.0.11)

BRITONIUS So you reduced the rating due to physical limitations that the you have control over but the software does not? And because they provided a backup alarm to help you when iTunes does not respond? How will they ever be able to improve their rating in that case? That is like down rating a real alarm clock, because you forgot to put the backup batteries in it so it will still go off when the power goes out. So you rate it down because it is not able to work without power (physical limitation) and it shouldn't need a backup option (batteries to protect you). I agree the new update should help with the iTunes update issue interfering with iTunes playing music, but there are still reason to use the iTunes player and so the backup is needed. Plus you can turn off the iTunes update option which is what I did so that it does not cause iTunes to become unresponsive (iTunes problem not Awaken). The OS X Software Update will notify when iTunes has new updates so I didn't see the point in having it mess up Awaken. I just didn't see how your rating logic made sense since it is not something they can overcome. Make sense? (Version 4.0.11)

BRITONIUS Best alarm clock application available. I have used and tested Alarm Clock Pro & Aurora along with Awaken and I went with Awaken because of it's great feature set, awesome support, great GUI and great pricing and update model (updates for life). It has almost all of the features you could want and more. There are some features I and others have requested and many of those are on the way. Check out the recent blog about the new features coming in version 4.1 - http://embraceware.com/blog/ (Version 4.0.11)

BRITONIUS How can you rate it a 4 because of user error? It's not the programs fault you closed the lid or powered off your external speakers as neither it nor any other program can lift the laptop lid or power on your external speakers. That just isn't right to score them according to your faults and not their faults. (Version 4.0.11)

Aurora | Feb 27 2008 |
BRITONIUS Aurora is nice as far as alarm clocks go, but Awaken I believe has a nicer interface and better functionality and is much cheaper at $12.95. Aurora does have Awaken beat at present with its' EyeTV integration, otherwise they are comparable in functionality. Awaken also just announced that it's 4.1 release will allow us to choose whether you want to let iTunes play the music or Awaken. Both have benefits. Plus it will allow video playback within the alarm window. Plus I get quicker response from Awaken's devs. Check it out and compare to decide which app is best for your need. Here is a link to the blog talking about new features coming in Awaken 4.1 - http://embraceware.com/blog/2008/02/24/awaken-41-look-ma-no-itunes-and-look-at-the-moving-pictures/#comment-2314 (Version 4.0.8)

DMG Packager | Nov 22 2007 |
BRITONIUS I'm sure this is a great offer for software vendors, but I don't see a personal need for it myself since I don't distribute software and don't have enough MAC friends to justify packaging items in DMG format. (Version 1.5)

BRITONIUS This is an interesting idea, but I agree that I like to watch my movies fullscreen. A 2nd monitor works great for watching TV/Movie and working at the same time. I think I would be too distracted trying to work with a movie overlaying my work. I do agree the icon is cool, but I would never pay for something like this and even if I got it free I still probably wouldn't use it much. (Version 2.1)

BRITONIUS We already have Bugdom2 and Ottomatic and they are awesome. This set has always interested me just because they are newer versions of old arcade games that I loved. At this price I have to get it. Thanks MUPromo (Version 1.0.6)

BRITONIUS I'll have to pass as well as I only have one Mac in the household so far, but it definitely something I will be interested in later. I will also have to agree that Martian Slingshot seems like a better deal. Also Leopard Sharing seems to only be a way to easily Share files as it does not say anything about automatically syncing them but I would have to research that a little more to be sure. Opal | Oct 10 2007 |
BRITONIUS I have OmniOutliner that came free with my MacBook. I will have to say that I have not really ever used it. I tried Opal out and it is a good simple outlining tool, but that is all that it does and to me is not worth $16. I use NoteBook from Circus Ponies that has outlining capabilities and much much more. I love it. (Version 1.0.9)

BRITONIUS I have seen and heard of it before, but never realized the need for it. This summary explains it quite well. Problem is I would need to see it in action a few times to realize if it was truly benefiting me before I decided to buy, so there is no way I would have time to test it out tonight.
