BOMBADIL  I've been using Papers now for nearly a year and it is one of my top favourite and most useful apps I've ever bought.

I'm a geology Ph.D student and tried to use Sente but found it too biomedical-centric to be practical for me.

A few of the gems that I find especially useful:

- the ability to find & download articles directly within Papers

- the 'Authors' tab which searches the latest publications by a chosen author in your library - fantastic way to be up-to-date on a leading researcher's findings

- the export reference is easy to paste directly into the manuscript you're working on before you do the reformatting for the journal in question

Requests and suggestions for improvements:

- add some sort of highlighting functionality as in Preview app or Skim. While the Notes tab in Papers is useful, one tends to forget to look there if it's not selected. I find myself opening pdf's in Skim and making highlights there, then saving and returning to Papers.

- I love auto matching function to get metadata, but it only works for newer publications in my experience

(Google scholar integration is awesome I must say!)

Highly recommended app if you read a lot of articles, and it has inspired me to scan my paper reprints and go paperless :)

BOMBADIL  Great app! Just ripped two DVDs without problems in .h264.

BOMBADIL  Pros:

Good UI, simple, logical and intuative.

Does a few tricks that average iPhoto users might appreciate, like adding a frame and uploading to Flickr, plus other image adjustments.

Cons:

No "auto levels" or "auto brightness & contrast", which I feel are essential in an image editor for non-pro photographers.

None of those fancy Core Image filters available that one sees in some other similar apps.

The "Fit image size to window" does not work, it just resizes the image to 100%.

Conclusion: Nice simple image adjustment/enhancement application, but with room for improvement.

BOMBADIL  Fantastic app! After trying it for one day I bought it. It's exactly what I was looking for in that I can finally control EyeTv, Mplayer and basically any other appliation using my Apple Remote and a bit of cut and paste Applescript if I want to add functionaluty for more apps. Great interface, great functionality, great price! Recommend anyone who likes using FrontRow with their remote to give this a try!

BOMBADIL  I love it! I was sceptical because ever since I got Tiger, I've been useing Spotlight for launching apps. But Namely is actually faster and you can choose your favourite aqualicious colour too so it matches the Spotlight menu or your desktop very nicely.

Feature request: please make it possible to not have a dock icon when Namely is open. I much prefer just using a keyboard shortcut to bring it up.

BOMBADIL  This has great potential and is a much easier and prettier alternative(though less advanced)to Adobe Illustrator. I use both programs and if Omnigraffle had a few more bells and wistles I'd be happy to trash the Adobe app.

I have to say this is and has been one of my favourite mac apps ever. The user interface is more intelligent than the Adobe solution and a good deal more attractive. The "snapping to point/line" function is better than Adobe's. This makes it perfect for flow charts and tree diagrams, and allowing a great deal more precision when aligning objects, in record time.

My only complaint is the incorrect rendering of shadows in exported images. Once they fix this it will be quite a mac gem!

ERIK  Love it! Been using the official bitTorrent client for soem time but after trying this baby there's no goingg back.
