BILL DAWSON  The whole point of the dock is to LAUNCH apps. If all non-running apps are hidden how do you launch them? Another vote for the stupid app category. (Very Windows-like.)

BILL DAWSON  I have two MacBooks here - and both will lock up if put to sleep by closing the lid with Mail.app + Safari open.

One has Safari 3.2.3 and the other has the 4.0 beta.

If we close one or the other (Mail.app or Safari), we're ok. But EVERY TIME I close one of these laptops with both Mail.app and Safari running, we have to reboot.

Maybe it only effects MacBooks?

Maybe it only effects mine?

Maybe its unrelated?

I have tested with only Mail.app open and with only Safari open. Both tests functioned fine.

I will try to regress the bug further when I have time and report my experience.

**...

BILL DAWSON  NOT READY FOR RELEASE!

Unlike most OS updates, this one is riddled with bugs. Laptop fans come on during sleep and then don't wake from sleep at all. Mail hangs indefinitely and seems to have lost search functionality. Even the install itself put EVERY ONE of my 5 machines into a state of continuous reboot!

Run away! Wait for the next update (or two).

CYBORG9  I installed 10.5.7 over 10.5.6 and have experienced no problems. I've found no bugs so far.

My late model Macbook Pro is running smoothly with this OS update.

Why some folks are experiencing problems is a mystery.

BILL DAWSON  Apple is bucking the toolbar trend by reducing the toolbar space in Safari 4.

I don't think they did it so you could come along and fill the space.

Minimum toolbars = maximum web page real estate.

AppManager

BILL DAWSON  Great little app!

Developer is very responsive to bugs/ideas. I found a discrepancy in the number of apps iTunes displayed and AppManager. He fixed it immediately!

Faster and easier than using iTunes to add comments. And WAY better printing/saving lists.

Why can't iTunes do this?

Smart Scroll

BILL DAWSON  Really? I hate it when I steal something and upgrading it makes me have to pay for it. LOL! I really like this pref. My coworker actually bought a whole Macbook for the iPhone-style scrolling feature on mine. Boy, was he disappointed that it was an add-on feature!

BILL DAWSON  I read all the negative reviews and warnings and hesitated. But eventually I began upgrading all my Macs. NO PROBLEMS. None.

Two Mac Minis, two Macbooks and a Hackintosh!

Also, I have Glims installed on all of them. (One reviewer said it crashed.)

I have Haxies and patches up the wazoo - Windowshade, Fruitmenu, StickyWindows, SmartScroll... all working. All fine.

Safari is as fast and responsive as ever. I was up all night working on web sites - multiple tabs, reloading pages, etc. - and never experienced so much as a hiccup. I'm using it right now to write this.

I recommend it.

BILL DAWSON  IGAUCHO, I'm not upset and I don't use Office - when I don't have to. The point of my review was missed on you. I don't see any improvements. If anything, it seems more sluggish. Your milage may vary.

BILL DAWSON  Don't notice any changes. Is it my imagination or does it take longer to load now? Damn, Microsoft products suck! If I weren't mandated to use this thing (Office), I wouldn't.

Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are SO MUCH BETTER!

BTW - Microsoft's Autoupdate program doesn't know there is an update available yet. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing (which is wiping it's a**.)

IGAUCHO  Calm down. If you don't like Office, don't use it. Sometimes Apple's Software Update doesn't always show the updates immediately either.

IGAUCHO  I also prefer to use iWork. The install went just fine and it seems slightly faster overall. Office is still rather slow. I don't know that there is anything they can do to change that completely.

BILL DAWSON  Wow! I get it to work ALL the time. Not a single glitch. I wish I could get the Norton Installer to recognize the image to install on, but that has nothing to do with this product - WHICH HAS ALREADY SAVED MY BUTT SEVERAL TIMES!
