Zip Mac Files for PC | Apr 17 2009 |
BEAMY You can do the same for free with "YemuZip" if you choose "PC compatible". Or you can simply create the zip archive with the built in right click method and then drag & drop the zip file on the free "ZipCleaner" program afterwards. (YemuZip and ZipCleaner are free and both can be found on MacUpdate or your favourite search engine) If you spend more money (ranging from $5 to $15 more), then you can buy a fully loaded compression program like "BetterZip" which can do the same as "Zip Mac Files for PC" and much more, like creating files with other compression methods, deleting files from archives and so on. By the way, I send zip files to Linux and Win users and they don't complain about the .DS_Store file and __Mac_OSX folder. Even PC beginners don't complain, they usually realise pretty fast that these things are not relevant for them or they simply ask.

Zip Mac Files for PC | May 30 2009 |
REELSTUFF I just recently began to have an issue with this, I had some complaints from windows users, however, now using wordpress, if you zip up a plugin, then upload it, and install it you are likely to have an issue, with the PHP include function on some plugins, I know magpierss hotfix has this issue and I expect there are others, so really as a developer I dont want to send these out with my files, because it could cause a support issue and I have enough to do without holding someones hand that has to be told how to delete the __MACOSX folder before the word press plugin will work again. This should not be that darn hard to fix so listen up Apple dev dudes, fix it, already, its a pain in the kiester.... (Version 1.9)

Movine | Mar 29 2009 |
BEAMY Hello again "NilObjectException" error ! Step by step guide (how to crash Movine 1.0) : 1. start the program "Movine" 2. click the "Don't check" button if it asks you to check for updates 3. click the "Never" button if it asks you to install the Finder plug-in 4. click the "Register" button in the "Please buy" dialog 5. --> et voila : "NilObjectException" error and the program has to quit The next time you start the program you can simply click the "Register" button in the "Please buy" dialog in order to get the error. I tried this several times and it always crashed. If you clicked something else the first time you started the program, then you can delete the preferences file "com.candyware.movine" and then do the step by step guide in order to get the eror. RealBasic programs always seem to have bugs...

Tribal Trouble 2 | Feb 11 2009 |
BEAMY The download contains a link to a webpage and not a program ! And now I am going to review the download (and not the webpage), because MacUpdate is there to inform about programs and not webpages. The download has no features: you can only click it and then a page opens in your browser. The download is not playable: it is not a game, it's a link My opinion: this download is worthless ! Don't waste internet bandwidth with it. I don't understand why this is on MacUpdate... this is just a link disguised as a program. Very disapponting. (Version 0.6)

SuperGIF | Nov 29 2008 |
BEAMY SuperGIF is a great tool. An image which is optimized with SuperGIF is usually smaller, than the same image saved as PNG and then opimized with a PNG compressor. That's the reason why I still use GIF images and SuperGIF a lot. Please be so kind and release an intel version of SuperGIF.

RarMachine | Nov 21 2008 |
BEAMY Hopefully this explanation is better and works for everyone. Step by step guide (don't do anything else in addition) : 2. click "Later" or "Never" in the "Do you want to install the Finder plug-in ?" window. 3. click "Cancel" in the "Please buy" window 4. click the little "Gear" symbol in the main window (info: after clicking the "Gear" symbol 2 options appear: "Use password" and "Create parts ..." DON'T tick them, leave them alone) 5. go to the "RarMachine" menu and choose "Preferences" --> NilObjectException error window appears (I use MacOS 10.4.11 intel) When you start the program there is an additional window which asks if you want to install a plug-in. The first times I clicked "Later" then I clicked "Never", but I didn't install it. I don't know if that influences the NilObjectException behaviour.

BEAMY Nice idea, but written with RealBasic, therefore say Hello to "NilObjectException" and the program "must shut down"... Start the program, click the little "Gear" symbol in the main window, then "Use password" and "Create parts ..." appear and then go to the "RarMachine" menu and choose "Preferences" --> NilObjectException ! I tried it several times... always the same. I am not going to pay $8 for this. Maybe the next version is made with Cocoa and I can say ByeBye to "NilObjectException".

ImageOptim | Sep 14 2008 |
BEAMY Nice program and easy to use. I compared the resulting images with png images optimized by "PNGpong" and PNGpong made smaller files. How do I have to set the preferences in ImageOptim in order to have the same results as with PNGpong ? I prefer ImageOptim because it is a program and not a widget.

EZ 7z | Aug 15 2008 |
BEAMY EZ 7z is a great 7zip tool. It would be nice if it would automatically save the 7zip archive (next to the file which you want to compress or to a standard location which the user can choose eg Desktop). It would also be nice if it would remember the compression level which you used.

Acqlite | Aug 13 2008 |
BEAMY I do not know if it Acqlite 0.3 works with MacOS 10.5. I still use 10.4

Acqlite | Aug 13 2008 |
BEAMY Do you still have the problem with acqlite 0.3 ? Maybe one of the tips helps. If you have Cabos running nicely on your mac, you can try the following: quit Acqlite, then copy the file "gnutella.net" from the "Cabos" folder (which is inside your "Application Support" folder) to the "Acqlite" folder (also inside the "Application Support" folder). After you copied that file start Acqlite. if Tip 1 does not help, you can delete the "Acqlite" folder (which is inside the "Application Support" folder) and the "net.sourceforge.acqlite.plist" file (which is inside the "Preferences" folder") and then start Acqlite again. This procedure deletes your preferences and you have to set them again. first do Tip 2, start Acqlite once, quit Acqlite then do Tip 1 and restart Acqlite. I like Acqlite a lot and it is my favourite Gnutella client.

FileChute | Jul 11 2008 |
BEAMY FileChute is a great program. I replaced the included "tar" and "zip" programs (which are in the "Resources" folder" of FileChute) with intel versions. They were PPC before and now I have the impression, that FileChute is doing its job faster on my intel Mac. I am looking for an intel or UB of "curl" which works with FileChute (the included "curl" in the "Resources" folder is PPC). I already tried to replace the "curl" with the UB version 7.16.3, but that did not work with FileChute. Where can I find an intel or UB of "curl" which works with FileChute ?
