APPLEHC Trust me on this one: I had so many problems using the (registered) version 1 of Expandrive that I deleted it. Now they want me to pay for bug-fixing the first version? Well, I still tried the v 2 - guess what? Lots of problems. Some big bugs were removed with v 2.02. But honestly: For serious users this is a no-go! (Version 2.0.2)

Querious | Jun 1 2009 |
APPLEHC By far one of my best investments in the past few weeks. Using "Coda" for PHP coding I really needed an extra application to get my MySQL databases set up and managed. This application does a wonderful job in showingand changing my databse tables on my laptop and on my productive hosted server via SSH. Not neccessary to open up some extra port on the server. UI is great and easy to understand. Add or change a table row? No problem. Adding a table? Or deleting a single record? Point & click! You need to replicate the databse? Just export structure and content as a file or create a MySQL statement file that can be used without Querious. I love this application. It really saves me a lot of development time. WhatSize | May 15 2009 |
APPLEHC Well, funny little story: WhatSize had some issues with the eSellerate engine they were using. I spent quite a lot of time trying to fix this. The developer could not help so he gave me a refund. Nice - I thought.. Well, today he sent me an eMail that I should update immediately - he may have fixed the problems with the eSellerate engine. Guess what: He just blacklisted my old serial. By testing the new version i got a nice little dialog telling me my serial was blacklisted. Thanks for the genereous help! You have to decide if you invest your money into this software. It is the first time after having bought 200 shareware applications that I completely disagree with a developer about how customers should be treated. I would have bought my licence back if the problem would have been solved properly. But finding myself on a "serial number black list", sorry. Not to mention the update politics.. (Version 4.6)

We have the twitter service since 2007 when we developed the service and upgraded the program, solving all those related issues raised. At US$29.90, with no annual fee nor subscription fees to pay. I am sorry that you find it expensive. (Version 2.0)

Coda | Apr 27 2009 |
APPLEHC I tried BBEDit (just overloaded) and Expresso (via MacHeist bundle. Nice, but sure not ready for primetime) Now I tried Coda. I love it: It will keep all my PHP and HTLM files up-to date with the local SVN repository I am using. And it will upload all changes via simple commands. You can even add folders or files to your projects and they will show up in the SVN by "magic" :) Highly recommended! (Version 1.6.4)

EventBox | Apr 8 2009 |
APPLEHC Hmm, that exactly what I am talking of: You might have noticed that we’re featured on MacHeist and it’s a free download. I expect many people to ask the question why buy it then? Here’s the short answer: the MacHeist Edition of EventBox is not the same as regular EventBox. Here are the reasons: * The MacHeist edition includes no official support whatsoever. If you’re having a problem or want to request a feature, you’re probably out of luck. * Most importantly, the MacHeist edition includes no updates at all. This means you’re forever stuck at build 566. Since we’re planning on adding many many new features in the future, you’re essentially going to be running an ancient version. I’m talking about syncing, multiple accounts, TwitPic, centralized notifications, more services. We will be adding TONS of new stuff. And this is only up until version 1.0. We’re planning to have a very long 1.x series, so buying EventBox now will last you at least 1.5-2 years. * We’ve got permission from Digg and we will be returning their plugin as soon as possible. You won’t be able to use Digg from the MacHeist edition." As far as I know there were only two developers so far, that tried something similar, product were GraphicCoverter and SpeedDownload. It created a lot of problems. Both developer fonud a reasonable solution. But you cannot just write a blog entry and then offer an autoamtic (!) update feature that smply cancels your licence information and sets you back to a trial. I am a regular shareware user and I bought roughly 200 shareware products in the last 5 years. It´s not about paying money for software and reasonably upgrades. But I do not like to offer some special deal and then just trying to urge existing customers to a payment by simply locking them out. Then just call it a trial what it actually was.. APPLEHC Ofering a free version via MacHeist. And then just offering a minor update via the application itself. But just to cancel the registration and reverting to an expired trial. Well, well - that is just AMAZINGLY STUPID. We will see if the potential customers will like that. I consider this the rudest and silliest approach to shareware ever ... (Version 1.0r563)

JOOLS912 Actually, I think you'll find you are the one that is just AMAZINGLY STUPID! If you'd bothered to try to find out what happened (by emailing, visiting their blog), you would've discovered that a change Twitter made caused a critical bug in EventBox. http://milen.tumblr.com/post/92206471/eventbox-twitter-aftermath They fixed the problem within hours and issued new versions of EventBox for both regular customers and MacHeist freetards. All you needed to do was download the updated MacHeist build from the MacHeist homepage, and it would've continued working just fine. Bu please: All the already installed applications on my iPhone will not be downloaded. I want to have them stored on the Mac for the case I have to reinstall my iPhone without Web access. RipIt | Dec 24 2008 |
APPLEHC I just ripped about 60 original Region-2 DVDs without any problems. Quite a few of them were not ripped correctly by other products. I have ni clue how the developer implemented the ripping but it seems the application does avoid faulty sectors and faulty file structures by only reading everything a regular DVD Player application would read. Probably similar to FairMount? Well, anyway - it does work. And I never expected that a few weeks ago ... (Version 1.1.5)

R33C3 Fairmount rips the DVD as the ORIGINAL folders. Ripit uses the file .ripit. Which means you can't then copy it to a DVD. Since I don't really need to copy my DVD backups to a DVD, this doesnt really bother me. (Version 1.1.5)

APPLEHC Ok, this is the way for working backups: 1) Go to "~/Library/Application Support/MobilySync/Backup/" and delete the folders there (these are your Backups) 2) Make ONE full backup by syncing. This could take as long as 2 hours if you got a lot of big applications installed (e.g. Texas HoldEm, Brain Challenge, Vay etc) 3) Check the backup directory for a new folder 4) Quit iTunes. Start this application to disable Backups. 5) Thats it. Every (!) newly started backup (full or cancelled) could destroy your first backup. So do not use it unless you want a more recent backup, nut then start with deleting the old backup. (Version 1.2)

TJH Very sneaky. I feel taken by the Developer. I mean to mass sell your product right before you do a big update that requires a new upgrade. Seems more like a cheap way to advertise than a deal. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
HERVé 5 a=All the more than, in said recent bundle, the other guy doing this trick (the excellent Intaglio) did announce it clearly, contrary to GraphicConverter... Now, the recent bundle was extremely cheap compared to the 11 apps you got with it, so there is nothing hateable either. Just... that GC didn't do fairly as Intaglio did... (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
ROBERTOAVANZI They have been, simply put, utterly dishonest. The Intaglio people said that explicitly, and we knew what we were buying. It was also clear that a program like Techtool Pro will need a major update with Leopard. But this, with Graphicconverter, was nowhere in sight. Graphicconverter was just sold in the bundle to milk a few bucks more from a soon-to-be-old version. Very, very bad behaviour. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
PANTHERA Agreed. Beware. I've had GraphicConverter since the 80's, but this practice of dumping GC 5.95 in a promo JUST BEFORE a major paid upgrade is deplorable. I won't be upgrading. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
AETNARIA The last time I paid for an upgrade for GC was in 2003. YEARS ago, and I've been receiving free upgrades on it until today. I won't feel bad about paying for a new upgrade now. Maybe it does seem a bit sneaky, but I don't think it was intentional. Besides, there's nothing wrong with the way 5.x works on your machine - this isn't a forced upgrade. If you are unsatisfied, e-mail the developer. I've always found them to be very accommodating. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
ROBERTOAVANZI aetnaria, I cannot but agree with you. The differences between 5.9.5 and 6.0 are - for my uses - mainly incremental, and therefore I would probably have no use for the upgrade. But still, I would have preferred that they stated what they were going to do: fair game. For the rest, I have to admit that Lemkesoft is quite generous with free upgrades and they have good support. But, it only makes this blunder even worse, it is such a "un-Lemkesoft" behaviour... (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
I did not want to start the big avalanche here. I just wanted to tell users not to overwrite their 5.95 if they got the bundle-serial and are not planning to update. I think GraphicConverter was always quite generous with their upgrade policy. And as a registered users to some of Lemkesoft products I value their excelent customer support. Its a question if Lemkesoft told the organizers of the MacPromo bundle about the version change. And well, I would not expect NO major upgrade with a .95 version, right? So for me he upgrade cost are acceptable - the somehow unlucky communication is not. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
MACUPDATE ADMIN MacUpdate was not aware of this upgrade beforehand, nor that it would be a paid upgrade. We do not have a crystal ball. We are MacUpdate, not Lemkesoft. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
TJH I don't think anyone is attacking MacUpdate. I think we just feel that to participate in the mupromo and then do a paid upgrade so soon after is a pretty nasty business practice. They could have, like Intaglio, at least announced it was coming and that it would be a paid upgrade. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
MACUPDATE ADMIN In a previous post in this thread: "Its a question if Lemkesoft told the organizers of the MacPromo bundle about the version change." Hence my response. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
MACUPDATE ADMIN And here's another post which states that "It's unethical and risks destoying all the goodwill both MU and GC have built up." So, I want to make it clear that we at MacUpdate did not have any prior knowledge of this eventuality. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
JOERG73 I am a little bit surprised, how most people shift the blame to Lemkesoft. In the FAQ for the bundle Macupdate told us before buying (in the meantime Macupdate changed the text!): "Unrestricted Serials - When I buy the bundle, are the serial numbers restricted? A: Intaglio users won't get free upgrades to the upcoming 3.0 release (they will get a special upgrade price). The rest of the serial numbers are as if you purchased them at retail prices through the developers directly." So my question to Macupdate is: Did you get a written confirmation from each developer (except Intaglio), that the will treat bundle-customers like normal customers buying directly from the developer? if the answer is yes: the fault seems to be at Lemkesoft but if the answer is no: Why did you promise things in your FAQ, which were not arranged with the developers before starting the promo? (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
ROBERTOAVANZI Joerg73, I really believe MU did not know how Lemkesoft would behave. To be fair, it is true that Lemkesoft has a habit of charging an upgrade from "Bundle" subscription to "normal direct customer" - which is something most software houses do not do - which is a different matter from the price to upgrade to a new major version. The bad thing here is that we got no information from Lemkesoft, and that they did not provide a special upgrade price for bundle customers. Instead, they say we have no rights. I still do not understand if the upgrade price for MUPromo customer is 34.95$ or 19.95$. If they ask the full price, then this is evil, if they are asking the upgrade price, they are just sneaky. (Version 6.0)

GraphicConverter X | Jul 26 2007 |
MACUPDATE ADMIN MacUpdate bundle customers who bought the recent bundle which included GraphicConverter will receive a new license key for version 6.0 of GraphicConverter within the next few days. Patience, please. (Version 6.0)

APPLEHC Hooray! It really does work, you just have to reboot 3 times - read how: MacBook Pro running 10.4.9 Drive Genius 1.51 CD (its a OSX 10.4.7) USB-Stick 1GB (regular, formatted with Disc Utility to HFS journaled) After creating, restart - and press "alt" to choose booting device. You will not be able to unmount the Drive Genius Disc before the restart. So choosing the right booting device will probably show you two "Drive Genius 1.51" entries. Press unmount key to unmount the CD. Restart again with your REGULAR host system. And turn it off again. Then reboot AGAIN. This time again with "alt". Voila! It will show you your USB drive as a new booting device, with the name you gave the USB drive at formatting. And yep, now it DOES start. It will take a while... dont quit on it to early!
