ANDYROGERS  It is extremely frustrating to try and download new updated registered versions of this developer's products. I follow all the instructions on Rob's web site. I use my link supplied upon original payment. "The re-download limit for this item has been exceeded." is the message I get. So then I have to email the developer. When he replies, he has to reset the number of downloads - which eventually runs out again after one or two more upgrades - unless any attempt fails for other reasons. When that happens, your download count goes down again anyway. If I can get one good download of a new version, I generally don't have to re-download again until a new version appears. Sometimes, after a notification, I end up with an old version downloaded needlessly! Why can't other developers send registered users a link to a private web site, the way eCamm does it? Or some other system. This mess discourages me from purchasing any more of these Useless Creations.

ROBOTANK  I can certainly understand your frustration, and I'm not doubting or downplaying the problem you're having, but that issue in itself doesn't make for a one-star review. Why not just post a comment stating your problem? MU application ratings are too often skewed by people posting one-star reviews for a single issue or bug. Just my opinion, but a review should be comprehensive.

ANDYROGERS  Even if the MacHeist terms were duly noted at the time of purchase, it still leaves a bad smell for many like me who bought the package in April. September now, and Acorn requires another $20 to upgrade to version 2.

MacHeist gave the bundled apps a lot of exposure that they never would have received on their own. I'm confident that the sheer volume of sales made up for the reduced price per app. No one forced the developers to participate - they did it because they anticipated making a decent profit. Now this, the appearance, if not an actual fact, of a sneaky grab to capture more dollars from newly registered users of 1.5.x.

BLLOYD  So they owe you free updates in perpetuity?

I really don't understand this rationale. If you use Acorn on a daily basis, and paid like $3 as part of the bundle, then a $20 upgrade isn't outrageous 6 months later. You're effectively paying $23 for the "latest and greatest" version of a $50 app.

Unless you think you are the person who should have last word on how frequent the updates are. I mean, c'mon, just beause you bought the Mac Heist bundle doesn't mean the developer owes you anything, least among them free upgrades 6 months later.

HMURCHISON  Gus has bills to pay too.

I don't mind a paid upgrade if 2.x is worth it. I don't think Gus can pay his mortgage if he cares about what does or doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth.

DOTMACX  Did you *see* the 2.0 release notes? I don't think Mac OS X 10.5 had as many new features and bug fixes.

ANDYROGERS  Same here. Can't install 1.6b2 on OSX 10.6.1. And I already trashed my 1.5.

ANDYROGERS  Version 1.6 (registered) doesn't recognize all the fish. Hold on to your previous version. I sent email to the developer yesterday; no response yet.

ANDYROGERS  Like others I emailed my request for the 2.0 upgrade license as instructed. No response to date. I can live with out this and just use something else for the infrequent times I need to download .flv files. Caveat emptor.
