AN.ONYMOUS After you have downloaded you cannot use the demo immediately. You must send an email and wait for a demo licence. It is much less convenient (and spam proof) than PDFShrink, but it seems thatPDFCompress lets one choose precisely how much the file will be compressed. A thing that PDFShrink does not. RarMe | Oct 26 2009 |
AN.ONYMOUS Ridiculously complicated installation : 1. In order to use RarMe the command line application 'rar' must be installed inside the RarMe application. You can get 'rar' from http://www.rarlab.com/ 2. Extract the folder named "rar" from the archive and locate the UNIX executable "rar". 3. Place RarMe in the directory you wish to install it into. 4. Right click on RarMe and choose "Show Package Contents". 5. Double click on the "Contents" folder. 6. Drag the RAR application into the "Resources" folder. 7. You should now be able to use RarMe! AN.ONYMOUS Thank you for clarifying my statement GHLBTSK. - "Region Free" drives are not region free - It is much easier to rip the movies into region-free movies (whatever the drive's so-called "freedom") than to bother having so-called "free" drives plus a software to make free drives work freely. GHLBTSK The point is that once a drive has been flashed with region-free firmware, you then need software to actually change the region of the drive…for example, if a disc will not play on a drive set to "Region Free", then this program can be used to set the drive to the region of that disc. It does what it does quite well and with a simple interface, but please don't confuse this function with the actual flashing of a drive with region-free firmware. (Version 1.8)

Apple Safari | Sep 19 2009 |
AN.ONYMOUS I can willingly admit that Safari works fine in most cases. Even though I do prefer Camino by far. However, I cannot agree with the opinion that Safari's market share warrants that everybody cares for having a Safari compatible website. The hotels I was talking about are among the best (although atypical) in the world (eg the best in central Mexico) and, being 100% booked months ahead, they just do not bother or even wish to hear about unhappy Safari or Firefox users. I was just furious when I read that it was responding to Apple's demand that Microsoft made IE UNACCESSIBLE to Mac users. Even if downloading an old Mac version of IE is rarely necessary, it should stay a possibility. Therefore, if Apple asked for IE's unaccessibility it is not Mac users' friendly. (Version 4.0.3)

AN.ONYMOUS I have already reviewed iG (under the name "Anonymous", strangely taken meanwhile by another user) and I could say how much I like it. To me the only important thing still missing in iG is the possibility to change the default cookie source. Until now, Safari is the only default "option" and does not address well the cookies for iG. So, I have to modify each download to replace the cooky source from Safari to Camino. I guess that it should not be very difficult to allow choosing another default browser. PLEASE RECTIFY ! ArtMatic | Sep 11 2009 |
AN.ONYMOUS ArtMatic is a unique software. It enables endless voyages through never explored regions of an endless universe of visual creation. It is constantly improved, with new features added. At first, the results may be disappointing; but, sooner or later depending on luck, one finds places where to settle down and start exploring from. Beautiful films can also be created very easily. The support is incredibly quick and efficient (including during the week-ends) Two things could be improved : - although there are many ways to change the colors and edit large ranges of tones, hues and values, there are still mathematical constraints that won't let you do exactly what you would with a graphic software (eg have different colours for different zones that correspond to the same mathematical definition). Perhaps, an additional paint-tool could be associated to AM to overcome this limitation without interrupting the exploration. - When exploring, AM allows memorizing some positions for later exploration or for including them as key frames of a movie. Unfortunately, their number is quite limited and their chronologic order cannot be changed. One thing is desperate : sound ! Across 10 years using AM, I could never approach anything melodious or even harmonious. The techno sounds AM generates are just more or less absurd noises (as well illustrated with the examples in AM's site). Clearly the ear is much less tolerant that the eye. (Version 4.71)

AN.ONYMOUS I understand your point Misha. However, as I could not make reservations in Mexican Hotels using Safari AND Firefox, I managed (with much difficulty) to download an old copy of IE for Mac, and it worked perfectly! In other words, Safari was not even able to replace the old IE. While I was surfing to get an old copy of IE for the Mac,I remember that I found a site where it was explicitly stated that MS had stopped providing MS for Mac following Apple's specific demand. As I had other urgency, I do not remember exactly where this was stated, but I should say that it was on a MS official link. My advice, if you are travelling and you need to secure urgently a hotel reservation, keep a copy of MS IE for Mac in your machine. (Version 4.0.3)

AN.ONYMOUS There are two good reasons to dislike Safari : - Safari does not work on several websites where MS Explorer is the basic reference (typically on Hotels' reservation websites) - Safari prohibits using Explorer on a Mac. Indeed, it appears that it is following Apple's demand that MS has stopped developping and providing Explorer for the Mac. (Version 4.0.3)

MISHA MS stopped active development of IE for Mac before Safari came out. IE for Mac was always one sold rev behind the Windows version, and it would take 1-2 years to catch up. Apple got fed up and did its own thing. And MS seemed only too keen to officially be able to drop development of something it had long ago unofficially stopped developing. IE for Mac was consuming resources of the Mac BU without generating any revenue. Can't really blame them... and MS knows first hand what happens when you make your browser the default (as they did with IE on Windows, and Apple then did with Safari on Mac). There's always Firefox. MISHA If a site is not loading properly under Firefox or Safari it is the fault of neither browser but rather of the site for being so horribly coded... The story about IE is that Microsoft had basically abandoned it (but not officially killed it). More than a year after IE development stopped (but not officially), Apple released Safari. After Safari was out, THEN MS "officially" killed IE. But IE was already dead. Safari was just a convenient excuse to some how justify why they had stopped working on it. (Version 4.0.3)

ECHOROB Turning on the develop menu and changing the user agent to IE works for me (Version 4.0.3)

Apple Safari | Sep 19 2009 |
GORDON142 OK, any site written specifically for IE is not going to work on such an ancient version of IE for Mac. It doesn't even support most of the proprietary functionality of IE on Windows (ActiveX, for instance) that would restrict other browsers. It sounds very much like the site was just looking for an IE user agent. The user agent in Safari can easily be switched. The days when IE was required for viewing large swathes of the web are past. Firefox adoption is nearly 50% in some countries, so trying to make money on the web and not supporting other browsers just doesn't work anymore. Since Firefox generally has very good standards support, sites designed for Firefox usually work fine in Safari. That said, even Safari itself has enough market share these days that most of the big sites test and tweak their sites specifically for Safari compatibility. (Version 4.0.3)
