I love ToFu and use it ALL the time. It is, in a way built into the “System”. It introduces a Services menu option (Under File) “View in ToFu”. So all you need to do is highlight the required text and choose that menu selection. I do it all the time and have a keyboard shortcut defined for just that. This works in Cocoa apps (Safari, Camino etc.) but not in Firefox which does not support Services. I do find that text from a few websites requires some pre-formatting in an editor to replace one return with two to maintain paragraph formatting in ToFu. It’s not a major problem though. Maybe that’s a function which could be incorporated into ToFu itself for the times when it’s needed. |

I've looked at or tried several GTD apps and this is the best by a long shot. This latest version with Smart Folders implemented is very significant. With some small enhancements to the Smart Folders (Date Range, Priorities, for example) the possibilities of the app seem endless. I think Bartek should find an alternative (non PayPal) method for accepting contributions. |

Since there have been very few reviews lately I'll pipe up. TextSoap is one of my top three or four most used apps, but probably not for the most obvious reasons. I use TextSoap's service menu items almost constantly. I have defined many special TextSoap Cleaners and it's easy to add them to the Services menu. I also use QuicKeys and the QuicKeys menus, often with special menus for each major app. TextSoap therefore allows me to have one button clicks to perform all sorts of text manipulations almost instantly and these are extremely useful when communicating of the web. For all my browsers I have a one button click which copies selected text into TextSoap for manipulation, enhancement and checking. I also find that I use TextSoap pretty much as a replacement for TextEdit, pretty much only using T.E. when it's the default app for some file type. This review was written using TextSoap. I realize that it may seem pricey but when I use it as much as I do that's not such an issue. |

I don't mind the new U.I. so much except for the background images in the boxes. I wish there was an option for plain white. The circular windows are just silly but the square is OK. |

I did “uninstall” (by copying the entire MS Office folder from a recent backup). I was concerned that maybe the 11.3.1 had written something which 11.3.2 would not rectify. I think MS should clarify this. Does a 11.3.2 update _completely_ remove any traces of the erroneous 11.3.1? |
It would be nice to have more details on the... * New and improved User Interface * Various minor bug fixes so we don't have to search them out ourselves. There are no release notes in the download from here or the download from the full download site. |
This app deserves a review, a good one. I like the way it handles the thumbnails putting them in a directory of my choosing. It's easy to find them and remove them if I want to free up disk space. I've sent in the shareware fee. |

err... After posting my previous comment it occurred to me to reset the prefs for the action to take after the countdown reaches zero. That seems to have cured the problem. |
There's a small problem with the 4.7 Version. After finishing a countdown the units display (lower left digits) switches to an incomprehensible number. If another countdown is started without quitting and allowed to finish then the display will be correct. It will correctly show the time elapsed since the countdown reached zero. |

Usability is much improved, the ability to drag projects from one calendar day to a different is a big time saver. The advantage of the EasyTask concept for me is the simplicity. I don't manage large projects involving many people. I just need to maintain a list of tasks which may or may not reach completion on a given day and get the ones not relevant to today or tomorrow out of view for the time being. Most of the other project or task management applications are far too complicated for my needs. I don't need progress bars and so on, they're not relevant to my work and simply add noise to the views. None of the others I've looked at (a lot) offer the possibility to view a single day's tasks alone. Start with today's view and do what you can. Some tasks reach completion and some are rescheduled for various reasons. Other apps always seem to display all tasks or projects at once and don't lend themselves to helping one focus on the ones that most need attention today. There are some other minor tweaks which need attention but I'll email my notes to the developer. |

Even Photoshop Elements has unsharp mask. Graphic Convertor has it and it's free. |
Mudflapper is correct. Reducing the size of an image does not degrade its quality. Using Photoshop or similar programs it's resampled on the way down. I also use the highest practical resolution when shooting photos. You can often improve image quality by sizing it downwards. A little sharpening does often help as well. I see no purpose in Quickscale. It's a tool with the purpose of relieving the naive of $10. |
You can drag tasks into the outline to assign a Project/Context/Cal. What do you mean by D&D doesn't work? I'd like to be able to Drag and Drop tasks to a different day. Let's say I've not completed all of today's tasks for some reason. I'd like to move them to the next day or a following day with drag and drop. Now I have to edit the Cal Date, do a save, click to a different day then back to see the remaining tasks, it should auto refresh. I find editing much easier and more convenient in the info drawer. (It would also be nice if the info drawer could be made wider.) I've defined keyboard macros (QuicKeys) to pop open or close the drawer (the More Info button, Command I) and a Save Key (Command S - duh!) to save the changes. |
I have to agree with a poster below who says this is not 1.0 level at this stage, it's more like a beta. I've paid the $20 and I've used it for some weeks now. I like the concept but this app needs a lot of work. Here are some issues. * Collapse the ToolBar and watch what happens to the Info drawer * Buttons need keyboard shortcuts * Drop and Drag doesn't work * You can't permanently re-order columns any changes are lost on quitting. * Copy and Paste does not work within text fields!! * Sorting on Task column non functional * No auto (or even manual) refresh. To move tasks from one day to another you must click to a different day and back * There are most likely other issues I've forgotten to include If you want to see the "Getting Things Done" concept executed well try the OmniOutliner Pro+KinkLess GTD integration. ( http://kinkless.com/ ) It's a nearly perfect integration with iCal. You may own a copy of OmniOuliner as part of the S/W bundle which comes with Macs. Then the upgrade to the Pro version is $30, only $10 more than EasyTask. I'd love to see EasyTask improved to the point where it's more usable, it's a good concept, but there are many basic things to be fixed. I've waited to see if improvements were forthcoming before posting this review. |

I had no problem getting the file(s) to open in BBEdit. First off, make sure the BBEdit command line tool is installed. (Sounds like you have) Then in SmartSVN's preferences for External Tools I just entered bbedit as the command. Basically I copied the default and simply changed usr/bin/open to bbedit leaving all else the same. Then I bumped my new variation to the top of the list. |
If it was pulled and re-released it seems that the version number should change regardless of how minor the fix. How will anyone know if they downloaded the "good" 3.5.4 or the "bad" 3.5.4 if they downloaded earlier? I just downloaded again to be on the safe side. |

See my reply about unchecking Use UDP Traceroute in the previous post. |
No kidding. It's been around for 10 years, pre OSX, since before anything like it existed. I've been using it for nearly that long and it's still useful since it presents the results in an easy to use fashion. |
Go into options and uncheck Use UDP Traceroute. The Router/Modem breaks this. It's an old issue. |
Did you check the author's web page? -------------------------------------- Updated - 2 July, 2006 I am not sure if there is any real need for WhatRoute now that we a vast range of UNIX tools at our disposal. However, I still receive requests for updates and modifications to the software, so I have resurrected the source and fixed many problems that have been brought to my attention in the last 4 years. I dont expect that I will move the entire application to Universal Binary. To do so requires a major re-write and this would not seem to be justified, given that the initial reason I wrote the software was to solve networking problems on a platform that had no tools at all. Times have changed. |
I should also add... The download is something like 49MB not the 38MB it says here on the main page. |
What I do is start up an Adobe App and let the Adobe updater check and find the file. It doesn't really matter which app you start, it checks for all apps. In this case I did fire up InDesign though. I also got a Stock Photos update which I may have skipped before. |
I bought TS4 in mid April 06 and although I did pay for the full upgrade to TS5 I do feel a little cheated that there was no grace period for recent purchasers. So I've spent nearly $50 for this app. |
The links on this page and the link on the author's home page download a different app, Clean Mac. 12 June '06 10, 15:35 GMT |

I agree with most of what you say and I've also owned Xpress since version 3. Quark has always had an arrogant approach, probably because of their massive installed base with large organizations. That said, I've ordered the upgrade to maintain my investment in the program and the time I've spent learning the program. I also own InDesign as part of CS2 but I'm not nearly as practised with it as XPress. If you're serious about these programs it's probably wise to keep up with both to maintain your skill set. |
From their site: Now JK is talking about Intel Mac. Quark is shipping Power PC and Windows today, with Intel Mac as a free update for QuarkXPress 7 owners this summer. Apparently it’s nearly finished… Jürgen revealed that all the demos he did, and all of the iMacs out in the hands-on room here, are on the Universal Application version. I also had to edit my customer info and the site is a little clunky. I did manage though and I ordered the upgrade. |
I agree about the $20 price. If something is $10 I'll often try it out and if it's at all interesting I'll buy the licence key almost immediately. When it's $20 or more then I compare more carefully to what I already have and often skip the new purchase. In this case I have tools for this job that do nearly as much as Easy Task so I've passed so far. |
I really like FolderGlance. I've been using it for some months since I first found it and I love the new feature which eliminates Control Click. I'm a true believer in the original concept of the single button mouse and the Control "Clickless" feature brings it back to me. I also dislike the bloat of all the launchers out there, I just don't mess around in the finder enough to give them the memory and other overhead they demand. QuicKeys is my only must have startup item and it's all the launcher I'll ever need. Combine it with FolderGlance and you'll never need any of the launcher apps. I've made my donation. |
For $20 I'd recommend that people also look at Keyboard Maestro. It's a commercial program for the same price with many more features. |
I think the negative comments are coming from people who use their browsers for only basic things and care about "pretty" more than function. Firefox is hands down the best browser available feature wise. One simple example: Firefox is the only browser which supports multiple logins via the keychain for a single site. I've got them all and use the others at times but Firefox has the tools I need and it's plenty fast. If you want faster download the Fasterfox extension. |
I like this very much. Sometimes I'll ask a developer about something and they'll tell me it's available via a hidden pref and to set it like so... defaults write com.xxxx.yyyy BlaBlaBla I don't much like black box solutions, I want to know what's there before I change it and I want to see that it's changed after I execute the command. This lets me see what I'm doing or about to do and lets me see that it's been done. My ratings reflect the fact that it's new to me and I don't know what other features could be offered and I don't know how stable it is yet. |
Have a look Blue Harvest. It does all of this automatically. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20036 |

Very nice. I own both Interarchy and Transmit so I've no need to defend one over the other. I was waiting for Peter to include WebDAV support in Interarchy and now it's here. The interface is nicer and more Mac like than that of Transmit with a slightly larger font which I prefer. It's also possible to make the windows smaller than you currently can with Transmit. It has the address bar like a web browser which Transmit lacks. This makes it easier to negotiate directories with the keyboard and copy paths. Transmit does have more options for editing server files with client based editors but I seldom do editing of anything other than text files. |
Launch of Excel and Word does seem faster. I'm not a regular user of the other programs. |
Re: Saving in Photoshop Just flatten the image before saving, this is basic Photoshop knowledge. Photoshop's features are much more powerful. If anyone already owns Photoshop this seems to be a wasted $30. Maybe if it was cheaper it would be a better buy. |
> I experienced this too when I first opened Transmit 3.5. You apparently are using 3.5.1 and you're not addessing the issue the original poster and I had with 3.5. The BBEdit path problem was with 3.5 and it's been fixed in 3.5.1. |
Version 3.5.1 seems to have addressed the issues another user and I had with 3.5. • Response time when selecting files ª Maintaining accurate path information when editing in BBEdit. It's nice to know the developers listen to user concerns. |
That's exactly the way I use Transmit 99% of the time. As a layer between BBEdit and a server. Using WebDAV it's very, very fast. But this is a killer for me. This and the lag time I mentioned in a previous comment leaves me a Transmit 3.2.1 user. The extras that come in 3.5 are trivial to me. I tried 3.5 for a couple hours then reinstalled 3.2.1. |
In Transmit 3.5 there is a very noticeable lag when selecting a file with the mouse. Folders can be selected and they'll be immediately highlighted. Not so with files, there's a long pause when nothing seems to happen. This is negative performance when compared to the previous version 3.2.1 |
I'm impressed. It's very simple to use and very intuitive, A nice front end for Spotlight's very powerful engine, I like it much better than Spotlight's extended window. The path display is probably the most attactive feature for me, when you have many files with the same name in different folders it's nice to immediately know which one you're looking at. |
Very nice. I *finally* got rid of Chinese Text Convertor (and a few other duds). Thanks! |
I think his leading line (What is a DS_Store/Resource fork (._) file?) may be a little confusing. That could read "What is a .DS_Store or Resource Fork ._xxxxx file" The most annoying gremlins are the ._xxxx files. You'll only get one .DS_Store per folder but one ._xxxxx file for each file. |
Maybe some people won't understand why this is useful. I'll quote from the author's webpage. "What is a DS_Store/Resource fork (._) file? If you don't know what these files are you don't need this software! DS_Store files are created by the Finder to store information about directories and files including viewing options and icon positions. Resource fork (._) files, often called "dot underscore files" are created by the MacOS when an application adds a resource fork to a file on a volume whose format doesn't natively support resource forks. Such as SMB, UFS and NTFS. A file's resource fork may contain information which is important, redundant or both. Why would I want to remove DS_Store/Resource fork files? These files can cause problems with certain types of software, hardware devices and file servers [also WebDAV servers]. If you've never had a problem with these files you don't need this software." He does not mention common devices like Flash memory sticks or cards, non Apple MP3 players, phones etc... These "._" files can cause problems with some devices or at minimum clutter up your non Apple device or disk with uneeded files. If you've ever wondered why you get all these .DS or ._xxx files on your non Apple device this is the reason. |
