AESCHYLUS I have been using Safari Cookies without any trouble in Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.1. There is no "slow down" in deleting cookies. If you are experiencing this, it may be related to a problem I had earlier. The problem was not actually with Safari Cookies, but with another add-on called Glims. I found that if I used Glims, Safari kept eating up more and more memory, and of course it took nearly forever to open pages, or to delete cookies. I had very good luck with Glims in 10.5, but whenever I reinstall it, Safari slows down again. If you are using other input managers for Safari, try using Safari without them if you find things are slow. Safari Cookies has worked well for the past several versions for me. (Version 1.1.3)

WideMail | Sep 16 2009 |
AESCHYLUS Widemail offers a two-row display, which keeps the center pane narrow enough to provide a wide preview pane. I don't recall that Letterbox offers more than one row. So I'm waiting for Widemail to be updated. (Version 0.5.1)

DAIYI I was trying to ascertain that, too, from Aaron's website. But from screenshots both on his site and MU, it appears that LB remains single-lined. Dane's two=lined approach in WM appeals to me more as well. Having some spacing between messages is easier to read and process information, not to mention being aesthetically very pleasing. And it's customizable in WM. Any progress reports, Dane? Operators at PayPal are standing by waiting for donations. (Version 0.5.1)

ROBOTANK As far as I know, the developer of Letterbox is planning to implement a two-line display in an upcoming release. I was using WideMail before Snow Leopard, but I'd rather have Letterbox for now than have to use the default Mail layout. (Version 0.5.1)

DAIYI Yes, I saw on Aaron's site that he was planning on making LB two-lined like Widemail. I hope that both of them are in contact so they don't overlap on their projects too much. (Version 0.5.1)

BENKOPF Hi, I found this: http://www.switchersblog.com/2009/07/a-potential-solution-to-keep-1passwords-button-in-safari-4s-toolbar.html So it appears that Evernote is aware of the problem and is trying to fix it. I tried the suggested fix for clearing the toolbar, etc. but it didn't work, but that was 1Password specific. I'm writing to EVN to see if there is a fix SOON, because I too use it daily on my job search.

ICONZ113 ya u have to run safari in 32 bit for evernote to display the icon, but then when doing that other apps that are updated dont work , evernote needs to put out an update that allows it to work on safari as is without any manipulation. (Version 1.4.8)

AESCHYLUS What a lovely program - it works flawlessly. I bought it earlier in the expectation of getting an iPhone. Finally, I got the iPhone. Then I received an email from the developer telling me of an upgrade! So I installed the newer version and it has worked perfectly. It is also intuitive and an attractive program, as well. About the only thing it cannot do is display the books I've purchases through various apps, but then again, they are in proprietary formats. This will be my go-to program for editing the files on my iPhone and copying to and from the iPhone when I need more than iTunes. Great program. (Version 2.2.3)

MainMenu | Jul 12 2009 |
AESCHYLUS True, this is too greedy at $20 for an app with so many free alternatives. What worries me most is that with a new developer, and Snow Leopard around the corner, who knows if they will adapt Main Menu? Perhaps the $20 will be for a program that is incompatible in 2 months. Also, Snow Leopard itself only costs $29. It seems like a better bargain, right? (Version 2.0)

JAZZYGUY Pennyhead1: This is NOT the same developer that originated MainMenu but a Software outfit that bought it and is chrging an outlandish price for it. They do this often buying other developer's free products and then selling them for prices that are really ridiculously high. (Version 2.0)

MEO File Encryption | Jun 26 2009 |

Silverlight | Apr 8 2009 |
AESCHYLUS Does Microsoft purposely try to make their software infuriatingly complicated to use on a Mac, or is this just the best they can do? Even though this is supposed to be seamless, when you finally discover something that needs Silverlight, it doesn't seem as easy or smooth as Flash. It crashes my Intel Mac too. AESCHYLUS The lack of secure encryption on their server renders this software useless for all but the most casual uses for Mac users. We Mac users need something like this, but until iDrive becomes responsible enough to treat Mac users like PC users, this is not the solution we need. (Version 1.2.9)

DOM21 The two PDFs on their site are of no help in this regard, because they make general claims about encryption without distinguishing between PC and Mac or saying it refers to both platforms. Clearly everything doesn't pertain to the Mac- yet this is not pointed out. User-controlled encryption for Mac on the site's server is the issue. (Version 1.2.9)

AESCHYLUS There is one more thing you need to do to make this work. In the System Preferences under Security, check the box that says "Require password to wake from sleep... AESCHYLUS Just adding my voice to a request for Safari 4 compatibility. I know there are lots of UI changes that might have to be accommodated, but there are a number of Glims features I would really hate to lose: Opening all previously opened tabs, the Favicons in the tabs, choosing where the new tab opens, etc. Even the Google search was nicer. Here's hoping for an update. (Version 1.0b12)

Find Any File | Dec 29 2008 |
AESCHYLUS This little application IS much faster than EasyFind on my iMac G5. Wow -- much faster. Both programs always find the same number of files. The advantage for EasyFind is that it can exclude invisible files and avoid looking inside package contents. These would be valuable features for Find Any File, but *only* if it does not slow this speed demon down. It's a delight. (Version 1.0.2)

Find Any File | Dec 30 2008 |
TEMPEL Thanks. I am surprised that EasyFind is so slow. As it scans entire discs, it could just use the same Mac function my app uses and become faster instantaneously. All it takes is to read Apple's documentation... I could easily add filtering of invisibles and package/bundle contents. I'd do that in the Results window, maybe with two separate checkboxes at the top. They'd say "hide invisibles" and "hide package contents" (or better to use "bundle" instead?). By default they'd be off to show everything. Checking them would simply filter them from the view. That way, you'd not have to start a new search to filter them. Note: A common problem with UI design is the phrasing of actions and modes. In this case, the checkboxes could also be named "show ..." instead of "hide..." and be on by default. What makes more sense here? Comments and suggestions are welcome. (Version 1.0.2)

Find Any File | Jan 6 2009 |
ASMEURER My guess is that EasyFind is slow because it also searches contents. It probably doesn't bother using faster methods for just file names. As for the options, using the affirmative (i.e., show hidden) would probably be the best choice. You might want to look at Apple's User Interface Guidelines if you are interested in improving your UI. (Version 1.0.2)

Silverlight | Oct 14 2008 |

BetterZip | Jun 19 2008 |
AESCHYLUS Great program. It is the ONLY program I could find that is fully compatible both ways with WinZip on a PC. So I can encrypt files on my Mac and bring them to my work PC, and decrypt them at work. Then I can encrypt files and work, zip them, and send them home to my Mac. I don't know of another program that does this. The performance is nearly flawless, fast, and there are frequent updates, so support is great. I bought this program a long time ago, and I've always been very satisfied that my money was well spent. Please keep on selling and supporting this little gem. (Version 1.7)

AESCHYLUS WARNING: THIS PROGRAM INSTALLS UPDATES WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT. You do not need to agree to download updates, it is configured to do so automatically. Further, it DOES download Personally Identifiable Information, although their privacy policy states that it "generally" [but not always] does not. Think over the implications of sending all sorts of websites your IP address, computer configuration, and other data about yourself. Besides, WHY do we need this? Is it better than QuickTime or even Windows Media files? Better than Flash? The Mac community does not need to follow along like sheep with our Windows brethren. Let's see what the informed consensus is regarding this program before jumping in. (Version 1.0.21115)

NEONBLUE2 You're absolutely right. Why do we need another web format to worry about? Especially one that doesn't work. No, literally, it hasn't worked on every computer I've tried. Perhaps it's because there are no development tools at all. It even looks like there's not going to be any support for PPC Macs past v1.0. Microsoft Silverlight 2.0, now officially working on nothing. (Version 1.0.21115)

AESCHYLUS EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES and clicks on the wrong icon, or runs the wrong program, once in a while. It is unacceptable for this program not to give us an opportunity to prevent erasing files EVERY time it runs. I was going to use this program to compare it to Secure Empty Trash, but, well, I make mistakes too. Developer, add this teensey little feature and you'll have a useful program. Otherwise, nevermind. PDFView | Oct 28 2006 |
AESCHYLUS After a few minutes with this program, it is my PDF reader of choice. Why? Not only for the reasons already stated (and being over 40, I REALLY need to have a large view of the PDF display to read comfortably), but because 1. I can use my scroll wheel to continuously scroll down to the next page and keep on scrollig adn 2. Because hitting page-down goes to the TOP of the next page when you have scrolled to the bottom of the previous page. In Preview, if you scroll to the bottom the page, to get to the next page by hitting page-down or clicking on the next page in the drawer, you go the bottom of that page and first have to scroll up WHAT A PAIN. The thing that I would really love is for this program to work with other graphics formats, especially JPEG. Anyway, a great and highly useful program. (Version 0.11)
