ABHI BECKERT I used both the logitech drivers and SteerMouse, and found SteerMouse to performs better and is more reliable than the logitech ones. Even on my G5 PowerMac, I noticed slight lag in scrolling with the logitech drivers, with SteerMouse, scrolling is butter smooth in all programs. Plus there were several minor bugs in the logitech drivers, and none that I've found in SteerMouse. (Version 3.6)

ABHI BECKERT Pfft, and don't forget to convert it back to binary when you save. There's probably a reason why the developer chose not to use xml. Even Apple's tool is more popular among developers than editing the source code. (Version 1.2.1)

ABHI BECKERT The more it's "ok" to ask for your details, the more developers will do it, and eventually you *will* start getting spam. I'm a developer, and I'd love to reliably track how many people are downloading my app, and then compare them with the last release to see how many actually still use the app. But I don't do it, not only is it a pain in the ass to users, more importantly it makes it hard for the end user to detect a company that wants to sell your email address (in an ideal world, only spammers would ask for your email). Shredder | Jun 13 2006 |
ABHI BECKERT Apart from (apparently) going nuts on the level at which file's are shredded, in what way is this better than the Secure Empty Trash feature built into recent versions of Mac OS X? Seriously, the only reason to use this app is to waste time messing with your computer, which is perfectly fine. But actually spending money on this thing is crazy. If this was open source, I'd have downloaded it and probably given a five star review. (Version 20050612)

ABHI BECKERT I agree there's some amazing server and command line software in the open source world, but in my experience that excellence usually doesn't reach into GUI apps. That isn't to say I don't like open source, I love it and have contributed to a few open source apps in the past. (Version 0.5)

ABHI BECKERT I love this app! Small, fast, free, elegant. It's one of the very few times I've seen quality software come out of the open source world. If you want graphs and all the other snazzy features, this isn't for you. But if you just want to download torrents this gem is perfect. (Version 0.5)

WSAMS I agree that Transmission is a nice torrent client, but I would at least like to back up the open source community by saying there are countless great open source projects. I don't know an exact amount of the web that is ran by Apache, Linux/UNIX, php ... etc (all open source), but that should be enough. (Version 0.5)

ABHI BECKERT Wow this is excellent! Incase the description wasn't clear (it wasn't for me), it installs several scripts in the iTunes menu, which you can then use for various iPod-related tasks, including ripping songs to your library and so on. (Version 2.0.1)

ABHI BECKERT Do your users a favor and avoid third party installers if at all possible. Use a dmg for apps, and show any license agreements/read mes the first time a user opens the app. If you need to install extensions or something, use a standard installer package. User's are familiar with them, they work well, and you never have to worry about bugs in future versions of the OS. (Version 1.8.2)

ABHI BECKERT Coolest useless app I've ever seen! Had to tone it down a bit to get it smooth on my 800Mhz G4 iBook but that's expected. Only improvement I can think of is to hide the effect when the mouse isn't moving. (Version 1.2.1)

Speed Download | Mar 6 2005 |
ABHI BECKERT I don't know about you, but for me speed download is almost twice as fast as using a browser's built in download manager. I usually get about 70 - 90kb/sec using the built in download manager of any browser I've tested. Speed download allways gives me at least 140kb/sec, usually around 160 -170kb/sec (my connection isn't capable of anything higher than that). Speed download does work, but it depends what server you're downloading from, and how far away from you and stuff. (Version 3.0.2)

Quicksilver | Nov 2 2004 |
ABHI BECKERT This is a great app, I dropped LaunchBar yesterday to try this app out, and Quicksilver is the far better app, I can assure you I won't be upgrading to LaunchBar 4 when it leaves beta. My only complaint is that it has too many features. I had to spend a *long* time in preferences, and downloading plugins to get it how I like it (check out the "Mini Interface" plugin!), and it wasn't as easy to use as other apps. I think some of the built-in features need to be made into separate plugins. Try this app out, and remember that most of the things you might not like can be changed. (Version 1.0b32)

ABHI BECKERT I bought this app yesterday, it was the best browser available for mac and worth the high price tag. Now today they release this version, fixed the ugly focus ring bug, fixed the speed issues, gmail now works... I'm in heaven! If you browse the net regularly, try this app for the full 30 day demo, it takes that long to discover all the awesome features. Once you've done that, it's up to you if it's worth the price. iFinance | Sep 22 2004 |
ABHI BECKERT Amazing app, definitely try this one out! It's perfect for anyone who want's a simple finance app that works extremely well. Don't let the low price fool you into thinking this is a low quality product. Not all companies base the cost of their software on how good they want their target market to think the product is (peoples opinion of quality is always heavily biased towards the most expensive product, it's instinctive or something). I know what I'm talking about, I'm in the software industry myself, this issue is #2 on the list of how to set price of a product (after covering your costs). With software, you should be careful not to judge quality based on the price. In-fact, software companies that have high prices usually care too much about profit to put more than token effort into the quality. In other words, they usually write really bad software, but customers rarely notice, they honestly think they own the best app money can buy. (Version 1.0.3)

ABHI BECKERT This is a great app that adds a feature that should be built into all text editors. Not that it matters too much, since it's free. Installation was a bit alienating though, you'll need to consult the help files to work out how to install it properly, and I imagine newbies would have a hard time understanding the instructions there. But once you've got it installed it "just works". (Version 1.3)

ABHI An anonymous reply to PitzzaMacMan's comment: | Right, you are correct. Any any 3rd party | software that does use the menu bar does so | via a haxie which is not suported by Apple No, it's only half true. Any third party Menu Extra is a hack that isn't supported by apple. However, Status Items are fully supported by Apple, and pretty much do the same thing. Menu Extra's use less memory, and have more features (eg. you can move a menu extra around by holding the command key and dragging). But because menu extra's are a plugin, if they have bugs, they will often bring down the system process that manages all of the loaded Menu Extra's (it probably manages other things too). In more rare cases, a menu extra might even cause a "crash loop", rendering all of the other menu extra's unusable. But status items are fully self contained, and don't have any of these problems. If they have bugs, those bugs will only effect that one status item. A status item can do pretty much everything a menu extra can do, it's just that they don't integrate with the other items in the menu bar, you can't re-oder them, and they aren't automatically installed when you open them the first time, and you can't uninstall them by holding command and "puffing" them like you would to remove something from the dock. Now that that's cleared up, feel free to ask the developer to put CopyPaste in the menu bar. There's no reason not to, and it wouldn't take much effort on the developer's end. (Version 2.0.1)
