ARES No problem updating with Software Update, even my UNO theme was preserved. Good update so far, my system is stable (PPC, OS 10.4.10, iTunes 7.3.1, Quicktime 7.2). (Version 10.4.10)

Apple iTunes | Mar 30 2007 |
ARES Good point: This version is a bit faster. Very bad point: It randomly renames artist >:-( OS X was a reliable system. Now... It's a shame there are so many bugs due to poor quality control. OS 10.4.9 and iTunes 7 are Microsoft-like jokes. I am an avid Mac fan and I am sad to write that I don't trust Apple updates anymore. I hope OS 10.4.9.1 and iTunes 7.1.2 will correct this mess. If not, I will revert to 10.4.8 and stop upgrading software AND hardware. (Version 7.1.1)

ARES Windows Vista is not the only cr*p around, beware the 10.4.9 update: - A cloned system on an external drive does not work anymore. - Disk images are checked and even when it works 10.4.9 says "The disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your system. Are you sure you want to open this disk image?" I will have to reinstall 10.4.8, thank you Apple :-( (Version 10.4.9)

AOL Radio | Feb 14 2007 |
ARES AOL radio works great even if iTunes is a better player imho. AOL radio keeps it simple and that's very good. Add more stations and increase quality a bit (96K), and it will be perfect. (Version 1.1)

Menufela | Jan 25 2007 |
ARES Great idea, bad release. WindowShade X was stable since I started Menufela. I've trashed this app after a few hours, no remorse. EJI pointed some bugs, there are many more. As a beta freeware I can accept it, as a shareware it is a joke. Too many bugs + shareware = 1 star. To the developer: test your apps before charging for it. (Version 1.5)

GraphicConverter X | Jan 22 2007 |
ARES It is the best image viewer. It can open damaged files other softwares can't read. Great converter too. Photoshop is better for image manipulations, Graphic Converter is the best for file manipulations. (Version 5.9.4)

- Better tabbed browsing. - Compatible with my add-ons. Worth the update. It is the best browser, period. (Version 2.0)

ARES Broken extensions: TabX, Thumbs, Flashblock, Fasterfox, etc. -> This version is USELESS for me. Back to 1.5.0.4 + these extensions + a great theme + Crash Recovery. (Version 2.0b1)

DR_LHA Yes, this is why its marked "beta". Its mainly meant for people to hunt down bugs etc. If you want a stable version, wait for 2.0. (Version 2.0b1)

EUSKIR There's a time until all extensions can work in new versions, specially in beta ones. Read carefully the release notes, that warning it's always there. Sometimes the developers of third party extensions take their time to make strong new material, or simple they don't want to. You can go back to the last stable version: 1.5.0.4 if you can live with those extensions and themes. (Version 2.0b1)

Apple iWeb | Jul 6 2006 |
ARES iWeb 1.1.1 is better. IMHO it still needs : - modify templates, font color and size - remove duplicate files, especially images - compress .png (see PNG Crusher) - correct these bloated filenames - access Aperture library - a better blog editor (->Journler) - update only an image or a text, not the whole page - a better code, to improve compatibility with 3rd party apps (Version 1.1.1)

Apple QuickTime | Jul 6 2006 |
ARES Works fine on my Powerbook G4 (I use Quicktime Pro, Final Cut Pro HD 4.5, DivX 5). Features 4/5 because one need MPEG Streamclip to work with mpeg files. (Version 7.1.2)

NeoOffice | Jul 6 2006 |
ARES Good, free Office clone. Very good word processor, better than MS Word and free. It is the best port of Ooo on OS X because NeoOffice is stable, it does not need X11 and it uses OS X Fonts. (Version 2.0a4)

Macromedia Dreamweaver | May 22 2006 |
ARES After a couple of months and a previous good review, I must admit there are too many little bugs to enjoy v8. 8.0.2 is still buggy and slow. Back to MX :-( (Version 8.0.2)

Apple iWeb | Apr 23 2006 |
ARES iWeb is not a clone of Dreamweaver, just a cool application for home users to easily create a website with a mouse and a true WYSIWYG editor. The good: It is easy to use, the editor is great (far better than Rapid Weaver) and you can create a page in a couple of minutes. The bad: iWeb is the worst iApp and it generates huge, bloated web sites. It is OK for making no more than three or four pages and sharing ten or twenty pictures, that's all. The .mac online service is better and generates smaller sites. I am very disappointed because iWeb has too many flaws and it fails for an entiere web site or a blog (an this one is ridiculous, visitors can't even add a comment to a $100 .mac blog). - more than one single site - modify templates, font color and size - remove duplicate files, especially images - compress .png (->PNG Crusher) - correct these bloated filenames - access Aperture library - a better import from AppleWorks, Pages and Keynote - add comments to a published blog - a better blog editor (->Journler) - update only an image or a text, not the whole page - a better code, to improve compatibility with 3rd party apps Right now it is just beta software. (Version 1.0.1)

ARES Journler is an ideal tool to note ideas or write a blog. The GUI is very Mac like, clear and easy to use. The application is stable. Thank you for making this one. (Version 1.1.6)

Adobe Photoshop CS3 | Apr 15 2006 |
ARES Gets slower and slower. I hate the new layer window (it was faster to link layers in Photoshop 7 and CS 1), a big design flaw imo. On the other hand, magnetic layers work very well. A couple of improvments but it does not worth the upgrade if you have CS 1 (features 2/5 and value 1/5). It is too slow even on the last G4. BTW, instead of writing a stupid registration system, Adobe'd better port a UB version of Photoshop. (Version 9.0 (9.0x196))

Adobe Flash CS3 Professional | Apr 15 2006 |
ARES It is slow, bloated, it bugs and Illustrator import is a joke. Freehand import is OK but even Illustrator to Freehand is not good. Flash MX and Flash 8 = crap if you use Adobe suite. (Version 7.2)

EasyFind | Apr 14 2006 |
ARES I can't live without EasyFind :-) No doubt Tiger is the best OS... except for finding files. Spotlight is good to browse user stuff but it can't see the system. EasyFind is the best additon to the Finder and it is free. Many, many thanks. (Version 3.8.1)

WindowShade X | Apr 14 2006 |
ARES Updated smoothly to version 4.0.2. It's cool Updates are still free for old registred users (I've bougth it two years ago, it was a 3.x). I won't change my mind from my old review (Aug 18 2005, anonymous): I hate the APE system, it weakens OS X security. I still use Windowshade because I miss the OS 9 minimize in place and I like transparents windows. Windowshade works fine on my system (Powerbook 1.5 - OS 10.4.6). It is the only haxie I use and it is a great one (maybe the best one). (Version 4.0.2)

Acquisition | Apr 14 2006 |
ARES I am not an avid P2P user, but imho Acquisition is the best Limewire & Co clone. I don't know the developer (it seems he is not very kind and drives bad reviews) and I don't care about him, because I use the application not the guy :-D Thanks to him anyway, big thanks: the app is great. It can be used for free, works like a charm and the GUI seems made by Apple (perfect integration with iTunes). 5/5 (Version 130.3)

ARES Updated with the combo .dmg without issue. The Finder is faster, especially on a G3. Great compatibility with softwares, even "unholly" stuff like WindowsShadeX. Adobe CS 2 works fine, that said I am not using files on a network server. Spotlight still can't find system files and I have to launch EasyFind. It is a very good update. (Version 10.4.6)
