File Buddy
Oct 6 2009

AJOYCE  GrupaDupa appears to only be a "find the duplicate files" program. I was not impressed with the interface and it is a "one trick pony" and not a full featured program like File Buddy. I suppose that's why it's only $.99. If you are looking for a duplicates search program then Grupa may be just what you want but it doesn't begin to compare with what I need in File Buddy. (And just for your info... I still haven't gone back to use File Buddy. I got along without it before and I can do so again. The lack of support is not worth the feelings of resentment that come when I use the program.

File Buddy

*....

AJOYCE  I used to use FileBuddy a lot in the early days. But then I quit because of problems encountered. I finally decided to take the plunge again and purchased version 9.0.2. While there have been some problems the most annoying is that every once in a while it tells me that it's in demo mode and I have to go through the whole licensing process again. But the thing that really gets to me is the unresponsiveness of the support team. I have written to them at least half a dozen times and never have heard one word from them. There's no phone number I can find to call them, so I'm forced to use email. My last email said that if I didn't hear from them I was going to remove the program from my system. That didn't work either. It has been so frustrating dealing with a company who is quick to take your money for the program and literally deaf to problems that arise when you ask for help.

If you're considering buying this program... either save your money or be prepared to get absolutely no help when you have a problem.

KeePassX
Nov 24 2008

AJOYCE  I was giving KeepassX 0.3.4 a whirl and discovered pretty quickly one of the problems with most password programs that keeps me from switching... and that is the inability to import or export data either into or out of the program in an easy way. I have tried many password programs and because of one thing or another I decided I would simply make my own using FileMaker. I'm obviously not a developer and my creation lacks some things, but it was doing the job and I was able to import or export in many formats. KeePassX limits the import to what I thought was an xml file but when I exported from FileMaker into an xml file I get the message from KeePassX that it's not a recognized file. I will never get stuck again by an inability to import or export. The description talks about the benefit of never having to worry about not being able to use a file created by KeePassX but right out of the box it appears that I'm suppose to reenter hundreds of records... no way! This is a serious shortcoming, in my opinion.

integrity
Jun 30 2007

AJOYCE  While I anticipated the program finding any broken links on my web site, I didn't really expect to find any because of my diligence in trying to keep up to date with all the links. Yet, it would be nice to have a program that would check it out and give me some peace of mind.

You can imagine my chagrin, however, when I discovered multiple 503 no service errors. Upon further investigation I discovered that the links were in fact NOT broken. When I told the program to "check again," on the in-question link, it said there was no error at all. This was the case for link after link that was originally highlighted in red.

My confidence in the program was quite badly shaken to the point of removing it from my hard drive. What's the point of having a program that gives false information?
