::MILE:: @GARY30: That's definitely not what I meant -- I'm not going to hector the dev or assault him verbally or anything…! I'm just disappointed, that's all… Also it's not about the ten bucks, I don't really care about that -- it's just about the lack of commitment to his product and the lack of communication with his customers…! Wouldn't matter if the app were free or if he charged a chunk of money for it… As I said, just disappointed… :((( (Version 2.8.4)

Many of us have actually payed the mentioned shareware fee and are understandably disappointed with the lack of support by the developer…! Especially when fixing the problem and submitting a new version would probably take him less than 15 minutes… I appreaciate your offer though, but I guess I'll just give up on PithHelmet and look out for some kind of replacement -- thanks anyway…! :) (Version 2.8.4)

Especially since the fix only works if you already had PithHelmet installed before updating to Safari 4…! If you download it now and try to install it won‘t let you… :((( (Version 2.8.4)

MITCH_DE Yeah, the main problem is the way how it works. Other than SAFT or other good blockers it cant block animated gifs only, flash only and cant add adds by right click to the block list. This its because his proxy way and not as plugin / Input Manager. I really tested GB long buts way worst (in handling, CPU usage, adding blocks) that the InputManager plugins. An other bad is, its because of the proxy way vs InputManager, it can have an bad effekt to all Internet Apps . So if you dont need Add Blocking in an Non-Browser Internet App, GB maybe can make problems, even this Internet App didnt need any Add Blocking. The InputManager way is a bit different - it bundles the blocker to its Browser, not to all Interner Apps. The only really (now) pro is: Independed from Browserversions / OS X Versions. GARY30 Yeah, the last times that a Safari upgrade affected it, PithHelmet simply failed to load. I think both times it was just because of a version checker line that was easily altered before an official fix was even posted. Presently, it looks like something different is going on in that it loads but instability ensues. Looks like other InputManager-related programs are affected in the same way. (Version 2.8.3a)

SJK For whatever reason Safari 3.2 crashed/hung quickly on my iMac G5 before first uninstalling SafariStand, then PithHelmet. So far it runs fine on my wife's eMac (under both our accounts) without uninstalling either SS or PH. Both systems are configured relatively identically so it's not obvious why the combination works on the eMac but not the iMac. Later I re-installed just SS on the iMac and haven't had stability problems. Sure hope this isn't the end of the road for PH. Maybe Mike can find a qualified developer to support it if he can't continue doing it. (Version 2.8.3a)

::MILE:: Still good...but also still ugly, still bloated...! :( It's all been said before, so I don't want to get into it again -- and Thorsten Lemke doesn't really seem to care about the criticism anyway... Or maybe he just doesn't know where to start if he actually were to re-design the app...?! But then again, what's the alternative to GC?!? So far I haven't found any...there's a few picture viewers that don't do more than the Preview app and a few self-proclaimed image editors like Acorn etc, which mostly shine with the kind of pretty interface that GC is s sorely missing...but I haven't found any app that could replace GC for me yet... Anyway, once again it has to be said though -- GC needs a major overhaul and considering the price tag and the money the developer has (deservedly) made it should happen real soon...! JCRAIG Bloated? Have you seen the requirements for Elements lately? Graphic Converter is a steal at the price, and at a little over 60MB of actual disk space, it's a light weight compared to the 1GB+ required to install Elements. GC is functional and powerful and is updated frequently which for a small-time developer is impressive. Puts big time developers like Adobe with hundreds of programmers to shame if you ask me. ::MILE:: First of all, thank you for your extensive reply and for clearing things up a bit. I can, of course, understand that it is probably not that easy finding a suitable German (or any other European) food database. Still, it's kind of sad to know that this is keeping you from opening up the app to European users... As for the iPhone app -- I'll be looking forward to that...! :) As for the Weight Watchers options -- even without being able to used the food database, having a points column would be nice so that the app could be used as a daily diary where you just enter the food you have eaten and thir points value...!? Of course it would be kind of an expensive solution though in that case... Also it would be nice if there was a points calculator included then, which is fairly easy to do... Unfortunately I don't really think you'll succeed in talking WW Germany into co-operating with you on that subject though...! From my experience they are really tight-assed (sorry, but they are) and don't really have the vision to realize what's possible...! Actually they're pretty much the same in the US anyway... So on one hand they would like to do it all themselves, but they are totally unable to get it right...but when someone from outside tries to do it, they not only don't show any support but occasionally tend to legally threaten developers to make them cease their projects...! It's been like that back when people tried to develop Palm apps, it's been like that with people trying to make a decent Mac app and it may be just a matter of time until they do it to the iPhone developer community...! :( Anyway, I hope you'll find a suitable way for you to improve the app and open it up to a wider audience...!! ::MILE:: I was hoping this could be the app I was looking for and while it really looks nice and has great features it's still a total disappointment...! First of all it's more than sad to see that even a German developer doesn't bother including international (or at least German) localization...!? This combined with the fact that it uses a US food database makes it almost useless for me here in Germany...! :((( Actually I was also hoping this could be used as a diary for people who are taking part in the Weight Watchers program, since it would only need one tiny additional column (maybe as an option to display or not) for entering the points value of the food you have eaten -- but with the aforementioned flaws this doesn't really make sense anymore... Too bad, I was ready to buy this in an instant, and I know many people who would as well -- if it were of any use to us over here... ::MILE:: I really enjoyed using this app until last January or so I mentioned that it had been banned from many sites, due to the fact that it was using old, unsecure and unreliable Transmission code -- so I contacted the developer and he said it wasn't much of a deal, he just had to update the libraries etc. and then would post an update... Only he never did...!!! I haven't been able to use Xtorrent for over a year now and as it now turns out he doesn't even bother anymore, since he stopped development on it...!?! Before that I alwaays thought that the negative comments and reviews about hom were a bit over the top, but I can understand them now...! Just like he promised bloggers who would write about NewsFire a preview of the new version by the end of last year -- it never happened...! It's kind of sad though, I liked using Xtorrent, espcially for the included RSS reader...but just like so many others I will from now on stay away from any software Mr. Watanabe may publish...! LEMMING What are the filenames of the TV shows? VideoDrive seems to work best when the TV show AVI files have the following name structure: "Show Name S01E03 Episode Name.avi" So, for instance, a recent episode of South Park would look like this: "South Park S12E03 Major Boobage". Try renaming your video files (episode name is optional) and see if that helps. (Version 1.4.1)

VideoDrive | Apr 25 2008 |
AROONA SOFTWARE VideoDrive indeed analyzes file names and folder names to determine if a video is a TV Show. The file name needs to contain S01E03, 01x03 or 01-03 to identify the video as episode 3 or season 1 of a TV Show. Put all files in a sub folder "season 1". then they are all identified as episodes of season 1 of a TV show. if you do not want to start renaming your files, consider manual meta-tagging (see VideoDrive Preferences). It also supports automatic season and episode numbering! A more in depth discussion is provided in our FAQ Question 3: http://www.aroona.net/VideoDrive/MetaData_Questions.html good luck! First of all for some reason it takes like forever to launch...!? Then it places that stupid downloads folder on my Desktop, even though I have changed that setting in the prefs countless times...aaargh...! The (German) localization has several errors, the GUI gets messed up occasionally, video -- although it generally works -- seems to bring down the app occasionally and the whole thing has crashed on me numerous times... Unfortunately the ones of us who happen to have friends, colleagues and family who don't know better will have to put up with all this, since there are real alternatives around...and as long as there are several major IM systems out there, there will always be need for a good multimessenger that covers it all...! Even not considering that you are not doing yourselves a favour with the weird GUI (which, I know, you think is supposed to increase the user experience) in this current state it is just not worth the price...! Which is sad, because it would have been nice to have a fresh new app of this kind around...but unfortunately Blogo is not it...! People still have problems logging into their accounts, account names are not showing up in the Ping section of prefs, international characters are messed up in the preview which itself is useless because it doesn't actually show what the post would look like in the browser, and unpredictable crashes are just a few of the problems we encountered here in the short period of testing...! Then there's the lack of features like formatting text as a list, as blockquotes or that you cannot change the alignment of text at all, you cannot save your work locally, insert a 'more' tag or any kind of code...and all that is just the tip of the iceberg... Too bad, as it seems that there's a capable, creative team behind this...but in its current state this app is close to being useless and definitely not worth the price, especially not in comparison to powerful competition like ecto for instance...
