PETEHAMMER Excellent program... and it is free! I track all my runs with this program. It remembers your shoes and routes and you can easily see your progress through the bar graph pane. ROBOTANK After installing this and the Java update, I experienced some very strange behaviour when the computer restarted. A couple of my log-in items crashed repeatedly and one was using a huge amount of CPU for no apparent reason. I also noticed that the mdworker process was using about 50-80% CPU. Another restart seems to have fixed the problem. Anyone else experience a similar issue? (2.2GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.6) (Version 2009-001)

MINIBOY Tried to copy some DVDs with Mac the ripper and 0SEx 0.1.0101b .. but just could not copy. I tried the trial copy of Fast DVD Copy 4.01 and had no problem at all. So I bought it immediately and tried all the other DVDs that previously failed to copy under MTR and OSEx .. all worked perfectly. So although expensive, it was the only one that could do the job. ANONYMOUS Reply to a comment by MiniBoy: "Tried to copy some DVDs with Mac the ripper and 0SEx 0.1.0101b .. but just could not copy." hmmm.. perhaps you are just a retard then miniboy? Especially since both those apps are for ripping a dvd only, (removing copy protection) neither will burn anything. If you can't get MTR to work, (ie: open app, insert a dvd, pick a save directory, click ok) then you are truly too stupid to be using anything else than this. I'm glad you found something which works for you. Seriously though, this app is for those who can't handle more than a one click process. (Version 4.0.1)

ANONYMOUS Advanced Photojunkies take RAW because it didn't change anything on the picture. You can say RAW is the (color) negativ off a photo. All other formats changed something with the photo before they store it. So in RAW you will have to do more things with your photo as in any other ways to store a picture. Why must we transform a RAW to something like TIFF for manipulate the pic? That's the way the company of the camera code a picture in RAW! So Canon RAW isn't the same as Nikon RAW. Thats the problem for a converter. It must convert the different RAWs into something like a TIFF. More you can read is here: http://ronbigelow.com/articles/raw/raw.htm and here: http://ronbigelow.com/articles/raw2/raw2.htm (Version 1.1.3)

By keeping the application name constant across versions, users can upgrade by simply overwriting the previous version with a new version. If you include the version number in the name of the application, many Mac OS X features - such as double-clicking documents or launching via Login Items - may not work as expected after an upgrade, since Mac OS X often looks for applications by name (as opposed to Mac OS 9 creator codes). This software is perfect for the music collector who is anal about their information. I still needs to improve but it is getting better. HP OfficeJet G Drivers | Feb 29 2004 |
DEB SMITH HP is not much better on the Windows side either. It is absolutely without question that they rush their software to the market place and do not care about the bugs or bother to try and fix them. I am a mac user but I have a mother with windows 98 who bought an HP officejet 6110xi all-in-one for her windows 98. I have had to reinstall her system 3 times now and from all the symptoms I have to conclude it is a severe memory leak My case just got bolstered by the fact that I spoke to a tech this morning and he has had 4 other people in the last couple weeks tell him about the same issues on Windows 2000 and XP. He tried, in fact, to talk to HP and they just did not care. Heck, I found other issues on their own web site that I encountered installing the printer for my mother that their own techs (In India, by the way) did not know about. After reading the reviews here, it is incredibly obvious that HP just does not care about how well its products work. They just want to get them to market. (Version 6.3.7)

Video viewed on the Mac, sent from the PC (using a $20 USB 1.0 webcam) is grainy, and only about 1 fps. In addition, iChat lets you vary the image size, but on the AIM side, I could see only the small 160x120 image. I couldn't find any way to either send or receive a larger image. I suspect that upgrading to a USB 2.0 camera might improve the image sent from the PC, but it's still not clear if it's possible to display (or send) a larger image. (Version 2.1b)

ANONYMOUS Apple has thoughtfully made versions numbers completely arbitrary with its own Mac OS X-only developer tools. Previously using ResEdit you could set a 'vers' resource with a clearly-defined structure that was compatible not only with the Finder, but other software, transparently. Of course many people used random formats, didn't know that there was a standard version format or just wanted to be an "individual." Way to fight the power, maaan. Now a version number is just a text field in Xcode/Project Builder with no guidance, no templates and no real enforcement of any "standard" to make the lives of software developers who make installers or backup or users comparing files easier. J I like the editor feature, that takes the user right to the broken link code for modifying or deleting. No more burden of using an exported text list to manually find and replace bad links in the document with the original editor. This creates a direct editing link, allows modification and saving, with no code rewriting of the rest of the webpage. The user can define the creator code of the page when saving. This one app does it all, taking the pain out link checking large sites and huge link pages. Priced right, too. I'm impressed. I found a new web tool for my working colection. (Version 1.0.3)

ANONYMOUS Well done Simon! Shame you forgot to point out that Sputnix is System X only. So for the lame suckers as myself still using OS9.x or -god forbid!- lower, Macsatellite is the only way to connect to Audiogalaxy. It may have its bugs, and each version is strangely more troublesome than the one before but hey, it's there, it's free and I've downloaded 1GB of music with my modem. iSwipe | Nov 30 2001 |
BERI i have had iswipe for a while now, and i like how you can connect to several hosts at once, meaning there are around 30 million files available each time you log in. Downloading is fast, just make sure that if you have a dial up modem, that you d/l from cable users or anything faster, that way you get speeds around 4 kB/s. The interface is good, although i would like to be able to actually alter the width of the columns in the search results window, because sometimes you have really long titles, and sometimes i have to make the window itself larger, possibly wider than my screen, just to see most of the title of a song. I like how you can have the computer download entire albums by itself, no need for constant monitoring of your songs... and if there's a timeout or somehting, iswipe just finds another copy of the same song!! Can't wait for the next update, at least with iswipe we dont have coding problems where certain people refuse to let us mac users download songs from them... BOYCOTT AUDIOGALAXY, MAC USERS!! and jump on the iswipe bandwagon i say!! (Version 1.0b10)

Switched to Communicator 4.x, iCab, then IE, then Netscape 6, all of which now crashed with same error (2), except IE. IE, however was beginning to display cosmetic problems (partial display of windows etc), neither could it find helper applications. I suspect a conflict with Internet Configuration among other oddities, since I eliminated connectivity as something which links different browsers... Needless to say I trashed the damn thang. The browser itself contains many features that Netscape and IE don't, though iCab lacks both a built-in WYSIWYG editor and e-mail reader (although you can still write and send mail). The customizability is the best part. energy52 put it best. For example, the user can choose suppress banner ads. iCab also has an effective, easy-to-use, yet excessively strict, built in HTML validator. All told, it's the best browser I've used yet. Only two problems: without OS X, the interface looks disturbingly similar to Mosaic, but its features and blazing speed more than compensate. On the other hand, iCab is frustratingly crashy. FICHEYE It's clear that most IBM computer users are morons who need a life. RICKY Netscape 6.2 is the best browser ever. Those who found Netscape 6.0/.01/.1 unstable, be sure to test this one: stability has dramatically improved since then. It really starts fast and loads pages fast now. Only downside: all those configuration choices make it a little harder to use, but after a quick introduction, I found myself to be quite comfortable with this browser. (Version 6.2)

GENE LEFF One of my most used utilities. I would be lost without it. Every time I have to file a new item (doc, app or graphic) instead of opening folder after folder a quick drag and drop through the "Behierarchical"(another indispensable app) Apple menu and Voila! it's done. If I want to add an alias to my startup menu - I option -drag to the Apple menu then to system folder then to startup folder - drop and it's done! Everything becomes so fast and easy and best of all intuitive. Thank you, Gilles Berkovitch (Version 5.1.3)

DAMIEN BARRETT Tracy, what audacity! What arrogance! How dare *you* come here claiming my criticism of your product an attack! How dare *you* claim that I've been attacking your company. You have yet to respond to the evidence that YOU are responsible for libel, identity theft, and character defamation. I was going to let this matter rest--having said my piece. You are mistaken if you think i am the only person questioning the legitimacy of your product. You are also gravely mistaken if you think you're going to get away with these attacks on my character, name, and email address. I have never attacked you, Tracy Turner. I've only asked--repeatedly--for something more than anecdotal evidence that your product works as advertised. You've yet to provide this. Instead, you've been waging a petty campaign to try to disqualify my name and identity. You are dangerously close to pushing me over the edge, Mr. Turner. I may have no other choice than to give my lawyer the go-ahead to seek litigation against you for YOUR illegal activities, in defense of my name and identity. And if you'd actually bother to read the law, you'd see, Mr. Turner, that publicly questioning a product's abilities is not against the law. Where as stealing a person's name, identity and email and submitting them to web advertising engines for the sole purpose of defaming that person is: http://www.mrbarrett.com/tracyturner/libelpart1.html I STILL welcome correspondance from you to resolve this matter, despite your recent increase in questionable activity (posting reviews in others names to articfically inflate the rating of your product). I DO NOT want to have to get lawyers involved, Mr. Turner, but I wil if I have to. Enough is enough. (Version 5.0.4)

SHEP An excellent tool that lets you create almost any kind of barcode! Although this is a demo and does not support printouts, you can work around this by creating a perfect barcode on the screen, then simply press Cmd+shift+4 to take a screen snapshot of it, and finally print the resulting image file of the barcode or import it directly into AppleWorks or MS Word, etc. Awesome!! STEVE Warning: This is a highly addictive game. Based on older, similar games, (one was a monkey with bananas), you decide the angle and power of your weapon to destroy neighboring tanks. Contains dozens of cool weapons including napalm. Also has the ability to decide the AI intelligence and if they can even buy better weapons and shields. Even can change the color of your tank, a very neat and simple feature. Plus, it's very cheap. Graphics aren't outstanding but the pictures of the defensive weapons are really cool. JK Just one word "WOW". I just finished installing ModemMagic 5.04 in a Mac G-4 733MHZ machine with an internal 56k V.90 modem running Mac OSX. Before installing the new scripting I ran a modem speed test; this computer had a download speed of 57.902 sec. with average throughput of 15.68 kbps. After installing the new scripting and upon reconnecting to my ISP I ran another test to see what the new speed was. The download was noticably faster at just a mere 20.905 sec with average throughput of 43.44 kbps. That's an increase of over 275% faster. On top of that I received the e-mail stating that I would receive the software some time on Monday since I ordered it on Friday night. I was very surprised to see it on my e-mail the very next morning Needless to say I'm impressed...thanks for a great product and speedy service. (Version 5.0.4)

My iBook doesn't play well with iCab (macfixit site never looks right) it crashes and leaves me at the desktop, but Opera gets along with my machine fine and is much faster (cable connection) that IE. CAM REVOL Well folks, it is not a "claim", this app is killer. PERIOD. If you use Dashboard (or similar app) to monitor CPU load under OS X, you will see that your average CPU load will drop rather dramatically after prebinding and many apps will launch faster and perform better in general. It is simply uncontestable, this app works as advertised. No, I am not affiliated with any computer software nor hardware maker, I am simply a Mac guru who provides support to a few dozen Macs running MacOS classic and MacOS X. I leave a trail of perfectly operating Macs in my wake, if I must say so myself. Heh heh. Oh, be SURE to read the ReadMe that comes with Xoptimizer! It is thorough and very professionally written. DAMIEN BARRETT Since Tracy's finally responding legitimately to the criticisms of his product, let's address the issues here. 1) Why doesn't your product work as advertised, Tracy Turner. You clearly sell a product that claims to provide faster and modem connections and yet numerous people (including MacWorld Labs) have not been able to make your software peform as advertised. What do you have to say to this? 2) What do you have to say about your inappropriate advertising campaigns including A) posting reviews of your product on MacUpdate (and elsewhere we must assume) using other people's names...in fact you've publishes private emails to your company without first obtaining permission first; B) in defense of your product, you've been illegally libeling my name and identity in an attempt to associate me with inappropriate phraseology. Since when is public criticism of a product grounds for the author to commit illegal acts in its defense. Two of my clients have purchased your product and asked me why it didn't peform as advertised, which is why I first began to investigate your claims. Since your website has no information on getting their money back, they came to me for help. It's true that I've never purchased Modem Magic--I have never claimed to have. However, I have two clients (and emails from dozens of others) wishing they had never purchased your product. What have you to say about this? I welcome email from those interested, including you Tracy Turner. Why don't you make your first email to me a discussion of how to resolve these problems instead of continuing your juvenile campaign of libel and misinformation. http://www.mrbarrett.com/contact.html (Version 5.0.4)

Netscape Navigator | Nov 2 2001 |
ZEUSZEN Gorgeously, clear "Modern" interface. Many unnecessary features (sidebar, added mail welcome/menu window, much of it as if simply for novelty's sake. No mail notification, sound defaults to system beep. Can't (occasionally) access sites, which are perfectly up and active. No plugins installed. Download of plugins slow, stalling with unintelligible text fields and blank progress bars. No helper applications carried from Internet control panel; types impossible to configure for novices. Helper apps do not jive with About Plugins, etc. etc. I am completely baffled by such an (apparent) absence of quality control. Doesn't anybody check these things??? My favourite browsers? -Communicator 4.7.8 and the venerable 4.0.8!!! If only I could have those with that gorgeous "Modern" scheme! I want that quality control job with Netscape! About my rating: Features: yes, plenty. Way too many of them! Ease of use: Several staircases down from 4.x! Value: No, not really (aesthetically appealing though!) Stability: Surprisingly Robust!!!
