ASHMADUX now this is interesting. I was finally able to get this rotten program off my machine. I had to use the version 3 uninstaller to get rid of 4. Incredible. Previously, I could not downgrade because v.4 had a file somewhere on my machine that was preventing it. After installing v.3, now my fonts show up in cs4 apps. WTF, cmon programmers, this is crap. The sad thing is that I used v.3 with absolutely not one problem for years- while everyone else was going through suitcase hell. Thank goodness that I have all my original install disks. And the nail in the coffin is that these guys obviously haven't updated even thier basic support pages- most links are dead or go to version 3 information. Since im due for a new machine, ill either stick with v3 or try out font explorer. I cant trust these guy' software with my mission critical workstation. Cmon dude, get back on the ball. Please? ASHMADUX This program is great... As a long time user of Font Agent 3, I am inclined to re-install that old workhorse- this update has given me nothing but problems with activating in CS$ applications. I NEVER had a problem until i upgraded. right now i have 872 font that i just activated. closed out of all cs4 apps. guess what? pshop sees liek 4 fonts out of the 800+. I deactivated, then reactivated all of them, quit out opened back program, same with pshp and illustrator. illustrator is usually better at handling font being activated while the program is open, and often just updates itself. Photoshop however.... Im a designer, and my font just wont activate. Worse still, unlike version 3, when it cant find a certain font in a pshp cs4 file, instead of leaving the pixel approximations (helpful if you just want to print), it changes any font that has an issue upon opening. version 3 i still have running on my laptop, and 4 on my desktop. i have had no problems whatsoever running v. 3 in leopard. however, that machine is stuck on cs2 apps. i gotta fix this now, i cant use this machine without my fonts. sigh (Version 4.0.3)

TONY AGUILA I think this is the first time that FAP gave the user the choice to selectively install auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe Creative Suite (all versions), as well as QuarkXpress, the first time you run it. Not sure if it will persist with the dialog if you choose not to install the first time. Very convenient. I am gratified that even before this update, they made plug-ins available for Adobe CS4, and this updated version is now even quicker with auto-activation in InDesign. Illustrator is still slow to react, but there is no more need to close and reopen the document. I own and have used ALL of the other font management programs out there, and still maintain my licenses, but FAP is definitely my first choice for managing my 7,000+ font library. The only problem discovered so far is that the update deleted all the names of my font sets. Fortunately, the contents seem to have been unaffected. My long-time gripe remains. When running Font Player, you cannot pause it. Whenever you stop/pause, it will have to start from the very beginning (or very end) of the set. Thus the reason for 4 stars for features. DESIGNSBYDEGREE I have been in the pre-press and design since 1991. My company has to manage over 6,000 font families which equates to to almost 20,000 individual typefaces. We handle ad inserts and national coupon campaigns for over 200 national retailers and restaurants. We have tried Suitcase then Suitcase Fusion and Font Reserve. None of them ever did what we needed. They were slow and had bugs. (One tip, to keep the font caches clean I feel that getting the Font Agent Pro with Font Smasher bundle is the ideal solution and a great value.) Font Agent Pro has been a real boost for font management in the world of OS X. It is accurate, fast and maintains fonts at a level that is unprecedented at this point. The way it even has an easy setup feature to install the font auto activation plug-ins and Xtensions is just one indicator as to how user friendly Font Agent Pro is. I wish all software worked this well. (Version 4.0.2)

MACLOVER1.1 Best Font management ever.. I had liked Font Reserve a lot under OS).. for OSX this is my choice. Mutliple libraries, fast font viewer, activates fonts flawlessly in Flash (which FontExplorer does not in my experience had to relaunch Flash every time I activated fonts). 4 thumbs up (using my feet thumbs as well). MARK_CAIRNS I've been stung twice by FAP, both versions 2 and 3 and really can't see the point of all this "smart"ness that's built into 4. I'll be sticking with Linotype's Font Explorer, which is as fully featured as FAP but is totally free! It works perfectly with Quark 7 and CS3. Still nothing touches the simplicity of Adobe's ATM Deluxe 4.6 back in the 1990s. (Version 4.0)

MACSTERDAM I agree that Linotype's FE is the hands down winner when it comes to interface, however, FAP has way better font handling and auto-activation. A lot of fonts that preview perfectly well in FAP, don't preview in FE at all unfortunately. (Version 4.0)

MARK_CAIRNS FAP2 was slug slow to import... 35 minutes for a 1600 professional Adobe/Bitstream/FF collection. FAP3 wasn't much different with the exception of faster (to be expected) import. 3 licences & upgrades wasted on both. I'm laughing at FAP4's so-called new features: Smart Search -- which I would take it would offer fonts up as you type in the search box... LFE already has it Smart Classification -- customisable columns of information... LFE already has it. Smart Sets... LFE already has it Font sets that dynamically update as users add new fonts... LFE already has it pretty much Smart Installer... LFE already knows FAP, FontBook or Suitcase is already installed -- deactivates existing type management's stranglehold. Smart Views... LFE already has it Smart Store... no explanation to what this is? Smart Diagnostics... lifted from ATM Deluxe! (i.e. is the font damaged YES/NO). One up to FAP4 Smart Activation... fancy words for Auto Activation/Deactivation and all that it entails. They pretty much all do it now although With Unsanity's MENU-MASTER I've changed certain keyboard shortcuts to be identical to what I was used to with ATM Deluxe all those years. I've only a few small annoyances with LFE in that I can lasso fonts the way I used to in OS9 under ATM Deluxe; there's no AutoActivation for FreeHand MX (nor obviously will there be now with a dead product) and Microsoft Office 2004 is temporamental with it (PowerPoint especially) at times, but then who's fault's that... Linotype or M$? Apart from that, it's superb. (Version 4.0)

MACSTERDAM I've been a FAP user since V1, and true, FAP 1 was so slow as to be unusable. FAP2 was marginally better, speed-wise that is. Version 3, however, really shone, and I found to be faster than other, including LFE. V4 is once again faster. True, FAP is catching up with LFE when it comes to features, but as nice as LFE is, when it comes to font handling, including (auto)activation, FAP is still the most reliable of all and still ahead of LFE at detecting font problems. As soon as LFE fixes these I'd switch in a heartbeat, because it's got the best gui, but until then I'm more than willing to pay an upgrade fee for FAP V4. (Version 4.0)

MACPREPRESS I was hoping that the 4.0 release would be better able to handle a couple things. *lessen the font cache corruption issue *be able to properly active the precise version of a font. From what I tested, the caches degrade about the same as version 3.X, so no improvement there. I saw it get somewhat better at recognizing some fonts. But still it had problems with common ones like Zapf Dingbats. Worse, after a bit of use, the plugin would crash InDesign. I've been testing Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7, and it's not a bed of roses either. Auto-activation seems largely disfunctional. I haven't tried Fontexplorer yet, but I guess it's time. (Version 4.0)

S. SPENCER PROBLEM: InDesign and other aps aren't seeing fonts when the are activated until I reboot system. I recently upgraded to Font Agent Pro 3.3 from 2.something I think. I am running OSX 10.4.8 and InDesign CS2. Everything was OK prior to the upgrade. My reason for upgrading was a minor problem installing new fonts that the upgrade appears to have solved. BUT now much bigger problem. When I activate a font that is inactive either via auto-enabling by Indesign or if I activate it manually, my applications can't see the font (it's not in the appllications list of fonts). I can only get InDesign or Illustrator or Photoshop to "SEE" the font by rebooting my whole system. Obviously not a good longterm solution. I wrote Font Agent Pro a week ago but no response other than the automated "we got your message" one. HELP. Anyone else with this problem?? I've googled and searched and cant find anything. HEAVY_SHOWER Rebooting the entire system seems a bit drastic. I too ran into that problem, but for me, there are two remedies. If I'm in the type tool before and after switching to Fontagent to enable a font (or to re-enable it by activating the entire family), I'll switch into a different tool, or even deactivate a type layer, then switch back into the type tool -- apparently the font menu gets rebuilt (?). If that fails, I'll simply relaunch the app but not reboot the entire system. (Version 3.3.2)

S. SPENCER Just wanted to say thanks for the reply. I kind of gave up on FontAgent Pro. The company never responded to my email or phone requests for help. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. I went with Linotype's FontExplorer. I like it alot. I still have a few funky things going on (for example, I have a couple of fonts that even when it is activated in FE and I know the fonts are in the database, my Adobe apps don't see it--so far, my solution has been to find another font ;-) FE is not perfect, but I think it's more stable than FAPro and Linotype responded via email when I had a question. MACPREPRESS Getting a bit off-thread here, but I've seen this too. Several version 1.0 Postscript copies of Futura Condensed Bold wouldn't show in ID CS2. RAYDMURPHY I've encountered this problem, but mainly after the update cam out recently.(to version 4.0.3) After that my system has been going haywire. After figuring out to use Smasher and killing off the preferences before reinstalling the software again the problem recurred again and again. I might try the tool changing trick that was suggested above, but it seems that for me the solution only lasts for a short while before the system feels like reverting back to the problem again. Linked with this I see that Font Agent Pro is using font files from my works network, despite the fact that I'm installing fonts from the local disk. Very strange indeed. It seems that no matter if I kill the cache or not it seems to link back to there after re-installation of the font. Very frustrating. I'm inclined to stay with the programme though as its very easy to use, its just a shame that it brings so many glitches. (Version 4.0.3)

THINES I hope this saves people time and money. BUY THIS PROGRAM. I went through all the rest of the font management programs (purchased products and free ones) none of them did everything right or well, they all lacked something. I've found FontAgent Pro (now with CS3 support) to be "simply the best". It's stable, has a intuitive interface and actively deters you from messing up your font collections. I am a professional Graphic Designer, fonts are the most important tool of my trade, I feel completely at ease trusting this product to store, organize and present (my 13,000 typefaces) when I need them. Also, there support is outstanding; I had a question about Adobe CS3 support and got a personal response within hours. Not an employee of Insider Software (Version 3.3.2)

MMORALES Love FAP. Have been using this since version 2 came out. Prior to this, I was struggling with the now defunct FontReserve. Theis product has just gotten better and better with each new version. With a UB version now, there's less of an excuse not to go with this over other proucts, although FonExplorer is still free (at the moment) However, it's not as polished or as good IMO, as FontAgent Pro. You get what you pay for with this. The only issue I have with each new update is that the installer creates a whole new FontAgent Pro x.xx folder, and deletes the old version. That means the one in your Dock shows up as a broken link, which needs to get fixed each time. On an individual basis this isn't too big a deal, but I install updates to FAP for my users via Remote Desktop, which otherwise works great. But then each user has a broken link in their Dock. Insider should consider getting rid of the version # on the folder name so updates just install to the same location, thereby preserving path links. (Version 3.3)

DIAKEUAST I have had Macs for 14 years & never used, nor felt I needed, a font program. But, after having Apple replace my Mac 8 times in the last 18 months, finally, 5 weeks ago, getting one which ran at least something like a Mac should, I was horrified when, after about 10 days it started acting up. I have a terminal illness & have spent much of my remaining time troubleshooting rather than enjoying my computer. FontAgent Pro has changed all that. I've actually been able to read some email and RESPOND, as well as being able to surf the web a bit & indulge myself in what had been one of my favorite pastimes since my first Mac. I LOVE to visit MacUpdate and others like it several times a day and download interesting sounding utilities just to play with them and try them out. With all the difficulties, that was forbidden. Apple was already trying to blame my trouble, at least partially, on my big ticket commercial software. No way did I dare install shareware! Then, about a month ago, I saw FontAgent Pro, & I remembered all the horror stories I had heard over the years about bad fonts, too many fonts, and so on. Meanwhile, the new machine was growing worse by the day. I downloaded FontAgent Pro with the thought that it couldn't hurt at this point, & just maybe IÂ’d be able to use my Mac for more than a half hour or so without some sort of disaster. I wasnÂ’t sure, though if I'd be able to understand how to use it. What used to be second nature to me, as well as the incredible memory I was blessed with, have gone with the increasing dosages of prescription narcotics which I must take if I'm to function at all. Also, it's hard for me to read anymore. Both my comprehension and ability to retain seem to be about at the level of a 2nd grader. Except, when I was in the 2nd grade, I was given an adult's library card & went through 10 young adult books weekly. Well, I needn't have feared! Right from the first launch, the program walked me through the steps. I don't know when I've found anything to be right there for me like an old friend, answering questions I hadn't yet thought to ask. It turned out that I did have one corrupt font, plus I also had way too many. I've been collecting them for years, and had somehow duplicated them in all of the libraries of OSX. Yet, though I cannot physically manage more than a couple of hours a day using my Mac, spread out in 10 or 15 minute intervals, FontAgent Pro always, picked me right back where I started & let me take the baby steps I needed. Now, I do NOT think that fonts were the problem with all the previous Macs. Not when, for instance, one wouldn't start up out of the box & another started up with a kernel panic & went downhill from there, but I DO think I would have spent many more of my precious hours troubleshooting, erasing disks, reinstalling software & so on. I've done the above an average of 2 or 3 times a week for 18 months. ItÂ’s a good thing the Mac is on a rolling desk pulled right up to the chair I am unable to get out of. This one, however, started out okay then seemed to be going rapidly the way of the others, even though I hadn't dared hook up an external drive or install any but the barest of bones of software. Many I have and was afraid to install are to assist me with the pain it causes me to type and mouse. TWO DAYS! Maybe a total of 6 hours. It was running like a Mac should run and I began to install my software. This last week I've even dared to start playing with shareware again, & there have been no ill effects at all. None! No Finder quits, no spinning balls, no kernel panics. I'm regaining the joy of being a Macophile and it's all due to this wonderful thing called FontAgent Pro! I can't urge you enough to download it and try it. I know you'll fall in love and feel as though you don't know what you ever did without it! I canÂ’t help but wonder if some of the problems I spent many an hour on in the past would have been prevented had I had a font program, but it would have to be as good as FontAgent Pro! Bless you, Insider Software! Joan M. Martin (Version 3.3)

MACSTERDAM Installed this a couple of hours ago, imported all my fonts and was up and running in no time. I had been using FontExplorer on my Macbook because I found FAP to run to slow under Rossetta. What can I say. Extremely happy to be able to switch back to a native FAP (fontexplorer is not my cup of tea!). 3.3 is flawless, as ever, very, very fast. The best font manager on the planet, in my book anyways. To those who have tried FAP before v3, give it another go, you be pleasantly surprised. The one flaw it had then, speed (as in slow) has long been solved and it's font-checking features have only gotten better. You guessed it, I'm a fan. (Version 3.3)

Some important information copied from the "Help" section about Database changes. THis info was NOT provided to me prior to installing the 3.2 update: FontAgent.db3 - database of all fonts, sets, and libraries FontAgent.db - backed up database of all fonts, sets, and libraries for a previous version of FontAgent Pro (before version 3.2) Note: The FontAgent Pro Database file is now named "FontAgent.db3." Users upgrading from previous versions of FontAgent Pro will find an additional "FontAgent.db" inside the same folder (/Users//Library/FontAgent Pro/). This file provides a means to return to an older version of FontAgent Pro if needed. However, all changes or modifications to fonts, libraries and sets in FontAgent Pro 3.2 will not be recognized by any previous version of FontAgent Pro using this backed up database file. ZUNGA I think this application is one of the bests in its category. In the past I've tried to manage my fonts with FontBook, Suitcase, FontExplorer X... and I think FontAgent Pro is the best choice for the common user: it "simply" does what it promises, withouth a hitch. LH The demo version worked great on my G4 with Panther - I loved it, but when I switched over to a new G5 with Tiger it got very funky with Quark. Most of the fonts I activated didn't show up in Quark's font list, and font families that did show up almost always were missing one or more of the weights. FAP's customer service was very helpful and pleasant, and I jumped through every hoop possible to get it to work with Quark - but it wouldn't. After reading the other comments, I am a bit relieved I'm not the only one with this issue - just wish I'd read them sooner so I wouldn't have lost two full days of production dealing with it. I REALLY like this font manager. I have used all the others, and when FAP does function properly, it is by far the best. Am very much hoping they can resolve this problem soon!

DOUG STEWART I made the switch to this from Extensis Suitcase. This is much better. Font activation is faster, they always autoactivate, even if the application isn't on and running. On the whole the application is much better and works seamlessly with all of Adobe Creative Suite 2, as well as CS 1 when I had that. Also, unlike Extensis, this one works for Macromedia Flash 8. Only one gripe... you'd think an app designed for designers (I mean how many people have that many fonts that this is otherwise useful?), you'd think they could have a prettier UI. ANONYMOUS Feeling rather sickened at having to use Suitcase every day, I thought I'd give FAP a go. It is a great application and I'd love to switch, but there is a rather important issue that stops me. Auto- or manually-activated fonts are not always seen by Quark 6.1, Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS. This could be specific to FAP on Tiger. I have notified the developer of this but they can't provide a fix as yet. We tried clearing the font caches with their application, Smasher; clearing Quark's Jaws/ttfont folder; verifying the fonts in FAP; and different manual activation techniques. Nothing worked. Illustrator and Photoshop didn't have too much of a problem, but Quark just wouldn't see newly activated fonts, unless I did the following: All fonts are deactivated in FAP Fonts manually activated in FAP Even then, there were always one or two that Quark still didn't see. Such a shame. I really wanted to buy this application and get away from Suitcase. (Version 3.0.2)

INIK It's like iTunes for fonts. Forget about keeping them organized on your hard drive, FAP will do it for you. Yes, performance is somewhat slower than, say, Suitcase; but the peace of mind of knowing that you activated the right version of the right font and that it won't crash your system is well worth the modest delay. Recent updates have greatly improved performance as well, so if you haven't tried it lately, do so. (Version 3.0.2)

INSIDER FontAgent Pro has a unique feature: multiple libraries. This would be similar to having an anthropology library, an engineering library, and a science library on a college campus. If you put all the books in just one library, it would slow you down in your search for some discipline within which you would know you need to search. If you subdivide your fonts into specific libraries, your performance will zoom! (Version 3.0.2)

ANONYMOUS I'm the person who wrote the "good form but not top form" commentary. I finally had to do a bit of extensive font management yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at FAP's responsiveness with this update. Very close to "top form"! Great. However, I don't like the meticulous grouping of fonts by foundry -- I have fonts from the same foundry grouped separately, although they've been archived by FAP in a parent folder under the same foundry -- this resulting in separate menu items in both my fonts' menus and in FAP's fonts' list. Yet, FAP works smoothly nonetheless and is the best font managing software around. (Version 3.0.2)

ANONYMOUS It's good to have FontAgent back in good form -- perhaps not in top form, but good is good enough until the next version perhaps. Every thing's back to normal (as it was for me in OS X 10.3.9). My only complaint has always been the GUI, that I find to be impractical on a laptop. I also wish there was an option in auto-activation to turn on an entire family instead of just the document's selected fonts -- I often find myself opening a document that I would like to change a particular style of the same family in but can't until I manually activate the whole family, which then means having to update the application's fonts' menu (as in Photoshop). ANONYMOUS This program is awful. It is VERY slow (starting up, quitting, and activiating fonts) and it says fonts are damaged when they are really not. I've had problems with conflicting font id's even after running the included FontDoctor. It does not handle system fonts well, particularly Helvetica. I always get different fonts appearing in documents that are using the Helvetica family. But, in all fairness, it is better than Apple's FontBook. (Version 3.0.2)

ANONYMOUS It's very different to Suitcase or the others, but far far better. The others crash, hang or just don't work properly. I was a longtime Suitcase user for work, and came to dislike it for all the reasons above. When I finally went freelance and needed a font manager, I found this one and ended up buying it. A month or so down the line, it's what font management should be. It doesn't need to be running to activate fonts. It stays out of my way until I need it, and it handles zillions of fonts with ease. There are a couple of tiny interface bugs with scrollbars disappearing, but that'll be fixed soon, I'm sure. An excellent product for all us long-suffering font lovers. (Version 3.0)

ANONYMOUS I have tried Master Juggler, Font Reserve and Suitcase. None of them can close to Font Agent Pro for speed, accuracy and reliability. There isn't any other font management tool that consistently activates and deactivates fonts with the spedd and reliability of FAP. I was constantly having application crashes with FAP's competition. One tech support person told me that they didn't have a plug in for Illustrator 10 because Ilustrator had font engine problems. Interesting. I was watching Font Agent Pro activate fonts in Illujstrator 10 while I was talking to him on the phone. The price is right, tech support treats you like a human and the product works as advertised. You can't ask for much more than that. (Version 3.0)

ALEXIS The best available font manger right now. Auto activation of fonts is superb and the built in verification works as advertised. One hint is if you are experiencing slow WYSIWYG menus you need to take the time to scroll down the list of all your fonts at least once. It seems to create a tiff file of each of your fonts in the application support folder. After that the menu is relative smooth. (Version 3.0)

ANONYMOUS I was using Font Reserve and having some trouble with Quark 5 in Classic and InDesign CS. I didn't want to switch to Suitcase because of all the bad reviews from users. I was surfing through the InDesign Mac forums and kept seeing praises for Font Agent Pro (2.0 back then). I decided to try the 30 day free demo and we absolutely fell in love with it immediately. Had a couple questions but the live tech support said that would be addressed in the upcoming v3.0. The Email tech support is fast too. FAP 3 cleaned out all my duplicates (from 5900 fonts down to 3500) Amazing all the dups you get over time. InDesign, Quark, Illustrator, PhotoShop all works like it's suppose too. If you're looking for a quality font manager for OS X, look no further thatn FAP 3.

MATT M As a Graphic Designer, I purchased FontAgent version 3 during the trial for the software. With Suitcase XI (what I was using) fonts would take forever to open/auto open, and it would periodically quit out if it came upon a font it didn't like. FontAgent opens them in an instant with no problems. The auto-open (for Photoshop especially) is another very nice feature and works quite smoothly. The font database is easy and convenient to manage/search/preview. Definitely worth the switch. (Version 3.0)

LUXURYLUKE I agree with macsterdam below, the fact that this program handles my 10086 fonts with not more than a 20 second startup is phenomenal on my iMac 17" 800MHz with 512MBRAM. I was suprised that Macworld recently gave this program a "nice, but flawed" review. Suitcase has frozen many times over the years (even last month) but FontAgent has never frozen under X (using 10.3.5). The wonderful thing about this program is that it doesn't have to be running to auto-activate fonts. don't ask me how. but it runs fine with specific plug-ins for InDesign (2,CS) QuarkXpress (5,6) Illustrator (old,CS) and Photoshop (old,CS). I've liked this software ever since it was released, and i'm a daily user of Suitcase at work. It's funny. Companies are wooed by upgrade pricing for Suitcase more than they are about real usability. AGENTM2 I am a Publication/Directory Production Manager. I hand preflight (mostly poorly created) ads all day. I am still using OS 9 apps (quark, Photoshop, Illustrator) with The undefeated King of font managers... ATM. (20,000+ fonts). This is the fastest and only reliable workflow there is for this type of work. I tried the Newest apps (Quark, Adobe CS apps) using FontAgent with unnacceptable results. This program is Sluggish in comparison. It's sad that this is the best thing out there for OSX. It's a P.O.S with that would be great if it wasn't so slow (20+ dock bounces to start-up) and unrealiable in terms of AUTO-ACTIVATION. I Hope Apple or Adobe steps in to save the day. Until then, the professionals have to work in OS 9. I'd rather typeset with an etch-a-sketch than make TIME for dealing with fonts in OSX. (Version 2.0)

BCWINTERS With around 2800 fonts in its database, FontAgent Pro 2.0 takes 40 dock "bounces" to launch and (no exaggeration) 3-4 minutes to add a new font (on my admittedly aging 400mhz PowerBook). Surely this isn't an uncommon number of fonts for someone who deals with any kind of design work on a regular basis; why have I yet to find a font manager for OS X that won't choke? I miss ATM Deluxe more and more with each passing day. Just let me drop fonts into the app, activate 'em, use 'em, deactivate 'em, and call it a day -- I don't need to wait for a scan of the entire font database every time I need to use a client's font. If MasterJuggler had a demo version, I'd give it a try in a heartbeat. The market is still wide open and looking for a leader. That said, of all the font managers I've tried for OS X, this seems to be the most stable and reliable, and it's the one I'm leaving on my system for now. (Version 2.0)

TMESA Is it sluggish because you have a bunch of fonts activated, or is it just sluggish having a bunch fonts? Even Suitcase was sluggish when a bunch of fonts were activated (I had 2200+ fonts). Any application, such as Word, ID, etc., is going to be sluggish if it is accessing a whole lotta fonts. I accidentally tried to activate all my fonts in Suitcase X1 on 10.2.8 on an eMac/800mHz/1gig RAM computer (long story), and it hosed my system like nobody's business, in addition to vaporizing every font except my .dfonts. The fonts were nowhere to be found on my system--I spent hours trying to find them. Extensis says, "Ohhhh, our products would never do THAT!" Unh-hunh. Fonts gone. Corrupted Suitcase. The Panther Font Book is a joke--obviously not designed by a full-fledged industry-type graphic designer, judging by the maximum 300-1000 fonts you're allowed to install, and the pathetic excuse for an interface one is given. I am new to FontAgent--dabbling in the demo right now--but so far I like it. Chose not to let it manage my system fonts until I decide to buy. I'm doing a web search on people's experiences before I buy. (Version 2.0)

SNG I can't say what previous versions constituted because this was my first test of FontAgent. But if their literature is to be believed then either this update is a massive regression in their evolution or their servers are putting out an older copy. The later i would hope. And it did it without having to close and re-open any documents. Also, ATM never needed to copy your fonts (taking up hard drive space). It simply referenced them and notified you to remove damaged/corrupt fonts. The font player is a plus. Overall this app is close. GINNY I am very happy with FontAgent Pro. I use it on Panther and have no problems with it. I DID spend some time understanding that you need to import your fonts in libraries or it will run horribly slow. But i have my fonts by serif, san serif, etc. I DO hate the stupid pop up windows that says its loading the plug in fonts and I have to click on it to make it go away. But its so handy to have my fonts in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator open automatically. I am really happy with it. I don't understand all the negative reviews. Also, what is really cool is the preview window, you can just arrow through all your fonts and see it in the letters of your choice, color and size displayed in the font. All within the program and its a fast preview. It was kind of hard to understand the difference between sets and libraries so I had to call them and they tried to explain it. ATM doesn't have libraries so I was confused. (Version 1.3.1)

Obviously the writer of original comment doesn't know that. And if they like FontBook, they don't know much. AGENTM2 Until there is a reliable font manager that works exactly the way Adobe Type Manager does, I'm staying in classic. Call me old-fashioned! I've worked in a heavy prepress production environment for years and carefully organize my font library. ATM manages duplicates, sees corrupt fonts, and most importantly Auto activates in all the important Apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, Flash GoLive) without a need for plugins. It lets you add your fonts without moving their physical location. It respects my careful organization. I keep my fonts organized by brand/style/suitcase/folder. I'm a Font Freak. I hope the good people at Insider software can make this happen. I think they are the closest. (Version 1.3)

ANONYMOUS In reading some of the comments, I had to check again to see if these were about FongAgent Pro. Version 1.3 is extremely stable, substantially faster, and offers the latest technology, including automatic font-activation in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and QuarkXpress 6 to name just a few. Unlike applications that don't offer the same degree of sophisticated font-checking, FontAgent Pro does run extensive diagnostics at startup to ensure that you will not run into font conflicts. If this takes a little bit of time at the start, it is well worth it in the long-run to avoid subsequent troubleshooting headaches. If you haven't tried version 1.3, please give FontAgent another look. It is rated as the #1 font manager by the users on other major forums, and if you aren't satisfied, we do offer a 30-day money back guaranty. (Version 1.3)

ANONYMOUS I have been using FontAgent Pro since its release with no problems. Much easier to use than Font Reserve. (Version 1.3)

ANONYMOUS I found the old OS 9 software very buggy - but useful for finding corrupt fonts. Because corrupt fonts can mess up some applications (Microsoft Word!!!) it is useful to have such an application - but the software has been so buggy that I haven't bothered. It is actually easier to try removing all your fonts and adding them back in manually. (Version 1.3)

PISSED OFF CLIENT Pure rip-off, don't buy it!!!! I did and I'm very sorry, there is no refund once you got it. Does nothing else except systematizes your fonts. (Version 1.2)

ANONYMOUS Update: Have requested a rebate from the company. Tech. support was no help and gave me the wrong solution to my problem. After reinstalling the software, it won't even open now. I owned the previous version of this software (FontAgent 8.x) and had nothing but problems with this as well. Insider Software sucks. (Version 1.2)

ANONYMOUS Currently working with tech. support to resolve problems importing fonts. After initial installation, FontAgent Pro did not save the import. After trying multiple installations and imports, FontAgent Pro does not cooperate at all. Crashes every time anything is imported. I may be looking for a refund in the near future. (Version 1.1.2)

ANONYMOUS This program has a major problem: to launch or quit FontAgent Pro takes about 90 seconds (on a DP 867 G4 with a gig of ram). Auto-activation still does not work at all. I'm using the Demo which automatically copied my thousands of my fonts into one folder created by FontAgent Pro. I have only about 20 fonts in my "Startup Set." This is a serious issue that, for me, makes this current version (1.1.2) essentially useless. Has ANYONE experienced reasonable launch/activation and quit times? Back to Font Reserve for now. (Version 1.1.2)
