ADONSA  Labels X is one of the top 10 most important applications for the Mac.

Hi Profinite,

Your message is 7 months old, System Leopard is over a year and a half old, the messages at the URL you cited are a year old. How responsive is this?

Will there be a System Leopard compatible version of Labels X?

Yes?___ (if so, when?)

No?___

Maybe?___

Is there a plan to upgrade Labels X to System Leopard compatibility? If so, what is the plan?

If the coding is difficult, then why aren't Apple programmers helping out in accordance with the provisions of the Apple Developer Connection?

Helllllooooo? Anyone home?

PROFINITE  For those who believe that Unsanity does not respond to inquiries, I suggest that you read the announcement in the yellow box at the top of their blog page that has existed for months now:

http://www.unsanity.org/archives/betas/enthusiastic_trepidation.php

I own FontCard, FruitMenu, Menu Master, and WindowShade. All of their betas have worked well with Leopard on multiple Mac's.

JEAN-LOUP  I would like to add my thanks.

I had this weird problem too since few days, and didn't have any clue about it. Now it's working again :-)

MAREKJANCI  Thank you Unsanity, for version 1.8.2. It has corrected the problem that appeared with the release of version 1.8.1.

MAREKJANCI  Please be aware that some users (myself included) are having a problem with version 1.8.1. Specifically, the icons won't take on the color which is a major feature of Labels X. One may want to keep version 1.8.0 as a backup in case it doesn't work for them. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon by Unsanity. Thank you.

GARY30  Labels X makes labels the way they are supposed to be. The only downside to my MBP was that Labels X did not work with the Intel processor. This upgrade is allmost like a Christmas gift. My file labels look graceful again, the way they are supposed to look. Looks nice and stable on my machine as well!

ANONYMOUS  So what, Tiger doesn't have lables ? Panther did. What happened ? I think I'd rather have labels than widgets.

ANONYMOUS  Yes Tiger does have labels. This app is for people with 10.2x...

And yeah I would love to know how many items a folder contains as opposed to just the size. I'm sure OS9 used to do it.

MAC2ALL  There is enhancements of the Panther Label system with Labels X 1.6 and 1.6.1:

1. You can choose if you want colors only on the file/folder, or as s stripe for the name too.

2. You can change the name and/or colors of the Labels.

So this seems an improvement to the Panther labels.

JACK  The System Panther upgrade is AWESOME! So far, I have NOT found it necessary to restart the finder for the icon colors to change. It works just like System 9! Also, old System 9 (and below) icon colors that I haven't seen for years, are back. Wow! Thanks for doing Apple's work.

Next task, it would seem, is to make sure that Label X is going to be System Tiger compatible.

Thanks much, guys, keep up the good work! Jack

ANONYMOUS  Amazingly, this new version somehow PICKED UP MY OLD OS9 LABEL prefs: the custom colors and label names somehow appear in the new prefpane. Astonishing! Thanks to Unsanity for this much-needed upgrade. Worth the wait, if it works!

ANONYMOUS  Panther already supports colour labels in the Finder. I understand the purpose of Labels X in Jaguar, but sincerely I wonder what this product is for as soon as you switch to Panther.

LOU KASH  Well, since I already bought a licence back in the Jaguar days, why not use it in Panther again. Although it's "nice" from Apple to give us back labels in Panther, they just didn't do it right yet (e.g. labels are NOT scriptable yet!). Also, you can't change the color and the appearance; the List/Column view stripes are not everyone's taste. So, Labels X helps (again...)

ANONYMOUS  Why not use it in Panther? Because it's a hack. Hacks are bad. Hacks that duplicate supported system functionality are especially bad.

ASMEURER  This hack in particular is bad. it doesn't even seem to add all of the functionality that apple "left out" of labels in OS X. I agree, the number one way to maintain a healthy system is to keep away from hacks.

LOU KASH  I had this issue with the old v1.5 in Panther.

Are you sure you have deinstalled v1.5 completely?

Perhaps you may need to deinstall LabelsX first, then remove files ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist, log out immediately and reinstall LabelsX. (You will loose your custom Finder preferences, of course.)

Now I see, this Sidebar bug is still here with v1.6. Oh well, I think I'll get used to it...

GARY  Labels are essential for me, and the ones in Panther suck mightily. Labels X used to crash the finder from time to time on my TiBook under Jaguar and I still used it. The new one (1.6) seems very stable under Panther so far and the lables look great. Go Unsanity!

T.L.  Problem n° 3 with Gimp-Print : I have dealt with the same bug, Label X is beside the point. It seems to be an error with Gimp-Print and .pdf links in Illustrator and InDesign files.

1) Find .pdf embedded in Illustrator or InDesign documents

2) Delete all these links

3) Import original files : .ai, .psd, etc.

4) Print. Indesign : you must click on “Printer...” (“Print” window) the first time you select Gimp-Print.

I am pretty sure that will fix your problem...

ED  On my clean system I've never had a bug. It was like in these Apple's ad, a wonderful world. Then I installed this f---ing software a few days ago.

1/ Finder is slower, especially contextual menus and the File menu.

2/ The Finder crashed a lot. It worked flawlessly before APE and Label X.

3/ Gimp-Print crashed after APE and Label X installation.

4/ LabelX doesn't work with Illustrator X: when a file is saved, the color is lost.

5/ Find doesn't work with LabelX's families, unlike in OS 9. It displays families but it can't search.

6/ Sort by families in a window is not saved.

7/ The Dock doesn't work well, it stops bouncing after two or three jumps.

8/ "Label" in File menu is not reliable but the contextual menu works.

I'm really angry against LabelX, it damaged my system. I can't believe I've paid for that useless cr-p, even if it was only $10. On the other hand, I use Windowshade X and it works fine. Metallifizer works too. But Label X messed up my system, now I certainly have to reinstall everything. Grrr I've jobs to finish and I will loose a day or two :-(

I won't use LabelX anymore. Never! Don't buy it if you plan to work with your Mac.

JAMMATMIL  Works great. I like having the folder colors. It's not amazing though. If you make it so additional labels can be added, then it's worth the ten bucks.

ROSALIND  I have been using Labels from the moment I moved to OS-X. I have a learning disability and must work with colors I was going nuts until I found the Unsanity little label program. Apple is nuts to let go of the ability to colored labels and the ability of the use of Window shade. Both of these glaring oversight in OS-X are solved by "Unsanity". Both little programs have always worked very well.
