FORMICA I love this old app, but it has a major problem, and I don't know if it's just because I'm running it on a modern Intel system using OS 10.5.8 when it was probably designed on a Lisa-II (it's nearly that old). The problem is that unchecking the preference to "Overwrite existing files" does not stick (meaning it's not persistent after the app has been shut down), so it always starts up with that pref checked, and that means that I can't just double-click on a .rar file to start the extraction if I don't want to overwrite the original archives (which I never do). So, I always have to open up unRarX 2.2 first and uncheck that pref before selecting the file(s) to extract, adding a step that most such apps long ago made erroneous when they added double-click-the-archive-to-start functionality. It's not that big a deal, but it is just the kind of annoyance that will make me turn my head when some other cheap, nubile young unarchiver comes on the market.

ROBOTANK Very nice. Today I suddenly ended up with a rar that Path Finder's built in Stuffit engine wouldn't handle properly (the first time that's ever happened). unRarX expanded it no problem.

FRINGEWOOD Very handy in most RAR cases. It would be handy when the archive contained multiple files, to create a folder to contain it all, rather than let it flood the current folder. It's a hassle to create a new folder and drag the archive into it every time to be safe.

APPLECRYPT MODS sry but I find this app often unreliable at times with large rar/split archives. It reports CRC errors, but I use the freeware tool Stuffit Expander and this works perfectly. Then again, UnRARx hasn't been updated in a long while... ?

MIKURO This is probably the best rar expander for Mac. It has successfully expanded split rars that The Unarchiver could not handle. While the interface is not the best, it's easy enough, and it gets the job done. The Unarchiver is still my primary archive expander, since it handles just about every format and works well 99% of the time. But when it comes to troublesome rars, unRarX is excellent.

MRHOOKS After selecting your destination folder, click Extract instead of double-clicking the archive. But yeah, I agree, it shouldn't have to be that way.

PEACHEY This app is fantastic. Ive had so much trouble combining sperated RAR files on the mac. WIth this you just drag and drop all the parts and it extracts them all and combines them back into the file you want. And its free! Brilliant!

THE_REAL_BEAN Wonderful program - works brilliantly. I tried the command line version, but I'm not sure quite what happened. I do: unrar e "filename" in terminal and it says unrar isn't recognised. Anyway the gooey version cleared that up. Cheers!

DAVIDLASKA This is a great application for extracting RAR files, warning to Mac users, there are times that you will run into a passworded rar file and once in a great while a error will returned. Before deleting your archive ( valuable archive) give it one more shot on a PC with the latest WinRar or even in VPC on a Mac. I like the feature where you can put in your password before loading the rar file. So I can double click a safari download from the download window rather than loading it from somewhere a few folders deep. This is one stable program to. It also works well in the backround even if you are hogging the CPU for your self.

ST00P!D M0NK3Y This is the only RAR program that unRARed my huge segmented RAR archives without messing anything up. It's simple and not complicated...it just works. Very nice. I wish this program could both compress and extract, however. That would make it awesome.

PIXIE If you experience random crashes, this might be the solution: - Download the new RAR commandline (now 3.41) for Mac OSX at http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm - Select your copy of UnRARX and open the packetinformation (Ctrl-Click) - Replace the UnRAR file with the new downloaded one in your copy of UnRARX This solution worked for me, so I thought it might help others too

ANONYMOUS Don't open an RAR archive without it! (Don't even think it!) One word of advice, for cases where mixing of the files contained in multiple archives is best avoided. Place each archive in its own new folder before uncompressing. PC users can get pretty sloppy about structure of their RAR archives, often loading file by file, and batch uncompressing without presorting to new folders gets real messy and very confusing in a hurry.

OLIVER I had some problems with password protected RAR files, but could solve that. wouldn't be bad if it wouldn't start automatically unpacking the RAR. @ThisGuy: try dragging the RAR file(s) onto the application (or use "open with...").

L66 Stuffit Expander messes things up with rar archives, especially with multiple segments, always "corrupted" according to Expander. This app is as simple as dragging the first segment into the window and done! And it's much faster also :)

ANONYMOUS I stopped by to download anothe copy of UnRAR X for a G4 Sawtooth. This application churns out the decoding process nicely. I like the fact that a status window pops up showing what's going on. No risk of the app crashing, and I've opened movies that are giga-sized, yet UnRar X does its job and does it well.
