TAPPER I have been using this backup utility for over 5 years and love its simplicity and efficiency. It allows scheduling, items to exclude, and many other essential features. My backup application of choice. (Version 3.4.2)

MD07 I am SO glad to see this application updated for Leopard. There are a lot of really great backup solutions out right now and it can be tricky finding the perfect one for your needs. Deja Vu has never let me down. I use it regularly to backup to an AFP share and I really like how it doesn't hide anything or do any kind of sub-folder witchcraft with my files. I tried Time Machine, Synk, Superduper, Carbon Copy Cloner, and Crashplan, and I just like the way Deja Vu works better than the rest. The only reason I would give this a 4 instead of a 5 for features is because I don't think there is a way to make a bootable backup. This isn't too much of a problem for me since a lot of the software I use needs to be re-installed or re-authorized even with a bootable backup anyway. You can make a bootable clone of your drive with Disk Utility anyway. (Version 3.4)

TNH There is a tiger compatible release now. They actually charge you about 10 dollars to upgrade to it if you have a 2.x version or if you purchased it with roxio products. IMHO, it's a waste of money. I'd give them credit if they didn't charge people for a minor change when those people already have paid (whether directly or when purchasing third party software) for the product. If the developers didn't get a good deal or gave away a licensed version for free w/ the bundled distribution then they need a better business plan instead of burning users who think they are buying a decent program. So lets review...Deja Vu is like freeware things (Disk Utility restore or CCC). Instead of being an app it's a preference pane. OK fine, that's good. It's got a reasonable gui. Cool. It even uses a psync module just like CCC. Ok..and you want us to pay you in the first place, let alone pay to upgrade. It does what it says it does, can corrupt your files (test old archives and password protected ones) just like any other free or cheap backup solution, possibly excluding restore from Disk Utility (which takes a long time). Overall it works, but on the shoulders of others. (Version 3.1)

M. ANDERSON I downloaded 3.0.2 after using version 2.0, and after using it a few times, decided to purchase the software. I purchased the software a week ago through Kagi and HAVE NOT RECIEVED a registration code, even though it is promised within the hour. So, I've given Kagi and the developer $25 for nothing. Oh yeah, no one has returned my email inquiry either. That's why I'm taking my message public. Hopefully someone will hear me. (Version 3.0.2)

JONATHAN DALE A rather simplistic front end to psync which is hardly worth $24.95, since: 1. It is not clear whether the Options (preferences/schedules/notifications, etc.) apply to all of the backups that you have defined or to just the currently selected. 2. it is not possible to define multiple auto-connects in case you have 2 backups which mount different volumes. 3. There is no way to apply inclusion/exclusion filters (which psync supports). If these issues were addressed, it would be a worthwhile backup program. (Version 3.0.2)

JEFF psync -> 426 lines of code DV backup script -> 600 lines code DV does a *lot* more than simply call psync. Have a look at the backup script and see for yourself. Folder exclusions in DV are not a realistic possibility until they are path-based. (Right now they are keyword-based, making it next to impossible to calculate required disk space on the destination.) Thanks for your feedback! (Version 3.0.2)

ANONYMOUS on OS X 10..3.5 i'm still using version 1.4.1 which is, i believe, the last freeware version of this little gem. the later versions do a whole lot more, of course. thanks to the developer for not making version 1.4.1 expire. at least it hasn't yet. maybe it will. whatever. GRADUS It should be noted that Toast 6 users who got Deja Vu bundled with Toast should not update to version 2.6.1. unless they want to pay for it. The app will now unregister itself and switch to demo mode. Somehow sneaky behaviour - after all, previous bugfix releases were free - but the upgrade price for Toast users is only $10, which seems fair enough for such a useful app. (Version 2.6.1)

PROPAGANDA PRODUCTIONS Mac on a Mac: You need to click the 'Schedule' button whenever you make changes within Deja Vu. (This acts like an 'Apply' button.) Regarding speed: Depending on how much data you're backing up, you can shorten your backup times by unchecking 'Show backup progress' in the Options-General tab. I find your comment that a 5 minute Jaguar backup now takes an hour under Panther to be a bit suspicious. If this is truly accurate (rather than a gross exaggeration), then I'd say there are other problems with your system. (Version 2.5.2)
