PIRX  The download page on equinux.com seems to loop back to itself. Not possible to download software.

JWEISBIN  I bought VPN Tracker Pro 5, I think it was $200. Well worth it. But they are charging $160 for this upgrade. Why so much? Given that they already announced that VPN Tracker 5 is compatible with Snow Leopard, why would I need this upgrade?

SANDERVL  Expensive but well-written and excellent support. Highly recommended if you play/work with a variety of VPN hardware.

MAHER  I bought it and it never did the job. I sent ticket, reports, all that the developper asked me to send, I tried different configurations, even different routers. Nothing works. Finally, I tried IPSecuritas which is absolutely FREE, and guess what, it WORKS for the first try. So I gave a last chance to VPN 5 and entered again the exact same settings, I have in IPSecuritas and nothing work again. I decided to stay with IPSecuritas. I asked for a refund and they said NO because I bought the soft for more than one month. I spent more than one month to toubleshoot it. I'm really disappointed. I learned something, ALWAYS TRY BEFORE YOU BUY

JANGLE  I really like the new interface of version 5 and it's speed for starting the connection. Way nicer than the cisco client. I just wish there was a menu item where you could start the connection from, so you didn't even have to start the app.

My company bought a bunch of licenses and everyone loves it.

HLIPPELT  I have been using this program for the last 2 years and it has worked flawlessly. I have been part of the beta for version 5 and have to say it is great. I have had 1 or 2 problems in the beginning (2 years ago with a watchguard), but that was solved on the mailing list. I cannot understand the bad ratings below. The documentation is fine for me and i haven't had any problems.

Interface is really nice now. I have tried other clients, but none was this easy and worked "out of the box".

Price is a bit high though...

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Go here:

http://www.equinux.com/us/products/support.html?pid=2

and click on the link there that asks the question "Are your products compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)?"

You'll find this info:

"VPN Tracker 4 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), and due to fundamental changes in the operating system, we will not be able to patch this version. However, we have just entered the beta phase for VPN Tracker 5, and intend to invite a couple of current users of VPN Tracker 4 to test the new version. If you're interested in using VPN Tracker 5 on Leopard (or on any other supported system), please apply at this website."

TOMNIBUS  Yeah, thanks for responding! Yes, I checked the site and saw that now. :-D I just purchased the product on october 1 so I'm looking forward to the upgrade. I also applied for the beta program but I could also wait for version 5. Hopefully it will be soon.

THEFINALEOFSEEM  This may be a good VPN server/client combo, but VPN Tracker has utterly piss-poor documentation. You'd think they'd at least give you a decent walkthrough for connecting VPN Tracker Client to VPN Tracker Server, but you get an ancient version of that guide from version 2.x. I have tried for hours to get these two working and cannot get them to connect. The demo cutting the service off every three minutes only adds to the frustration. If this software actually had good documentation, I could recommend it, but the fact remains that these idiots can't even keep their manuals current, so how can you expect the software to work properly?

DEFILM  I have been writing email back and forth to germany for weeks. I could not get this software to work with a sonicwall 2040. Followed instructions, made changes.

I am not new to VPN technology, I have been designing networks for nearly 15 years, most of them secure, or encrypted.

Here is he deal... VPN Tracker works perfectly when the "DEFAULT GLOBAL VPN" is configured as indicated in the documentation with standard FQDN matching, etc.

However, most of the office uses the safenet windows client. For windows, there are two clients out there. Cisco's, and Safenet's rebranded for everyone else from Netgear to Netscreen (now Juniper).

I even tried configuring a global VPN endpoint on a different IP address than the default in the WAN IP interface, added the proper NAT rules, with NAT-T

support. No difference.

If I wipe the Sonicwall 2040 however, and move the configuration to the "Default Global VPN", it works like a charm.

So if you have a company with Sonicwall 2040's, (a very popular device) you had better have one for MAC's and another for PC's.

Sadly a convert from a Linux background and Windows for day to day, I converted to Mac book Pro as I can run X-server, have access to a Linux OS (Darwin), Can run WIN Xp on Parallels faster than in native, and Cocco for productivity. I have been able to move all applications to Max OS X, with only three exceptions:

An internal application that runs a thin client on Windows only.

Visio (Using omnigraffle as ConceptDrawPro VI can not read .xml visio files converted from .vsd. They broke it, and now the CA office is trying to communicate this to the office in Germany as well.

Only been 4 months since the anticipated release of version VI.

VPN software that works on a sonicwall.

I have to say not all the software is as good as the PC counter-part's as MAC is still a "user supported environment". I hope that changes. I also hope they can resolve the issue with ONLY working on Sonicwall Default VPN. Nice thing about the Safenet product, is on the Sonicwall you can generate the key for the user, they just import it. No technical stuff for the end user. Not only is this complex for a non-tech user to configure, but I am stuck as I have a lot more Windows users.

It is highly likely a contention issue. The default Group VPN does not have the FQDN config. VPN Tracker does not seem to know how to deal with this common issue sadly. I hope it can in the future.

In the mean time, since Sonicwal recommends Tracker for their MAC users, I need to bring this finding to their attention.

DONMONTALVO  vpn tracker does what it advertises - and does it well. their support is lacking though. while you can get a live person on the phone (in their new california office) when the main office (in germany) is closed, the california office is NOT ABLE to approve serial adjustments...ONLY the germain office can do this.

i have a very angry client (who i recommended vpn tracker to as a mac vpn client solution) who has NOT been able to work all day. apparently the german office has closed for the day WITHOUT adjusting the serial number DESPITE my requesting this 8hours ago.

my client is very upset. this makes me look bad. this isn't the first time equinux's licensing system has left my clients (and myself) out to hang.

consider ipsecuritas BEFORE vpn tracker. i did, unfortunately ipsecuritas' gui got my client to decide to spend on vpn tracker. maybe ipsecuritas will mature the gui? if so, i would stop my clients from using vpntracker.

EMB  VPN tracker reset all references to our company domains to IPs that are relevant only when you are connected. It didn't release them on disconnect. Uninstalling didn't work nor did the company's uninstall application. A diligent search for preferences, etc. doesn't reveal where the problem lies. Requests for tech support from the company have not been answered and the company rarely is available to answer phone calls. They also don't return phone messages. Use this product with caution. If it works for you that's great, but if it doesn't you may have some real difficulty.

PETE CROCKER  $40 Paid Upgrade? 4 months after I last paid!

So I've been a VPN Tracker user since 2.0, and I wanted the additional NAT-T functionality in VPN Tracker 3. So in the end of Jan 2005, I paid the $40 upgrade fee. Now, to get Tiger compatibility, I have to pay $40 only 4 months later! I'm looking for a less expensive solution where they reward paying customers with free bug fixes to the next version of MacOS.

ANONYMOUS  IPSecuritas is a great tool if you just want IPSec. And it is free. Although there are some Tiger issues at the moment, they are actively being worked on. I wouldn't pay for VPN Tracker.

ANONYMOUS  The installer edits the file /etc/authorization and also creates an invisible world-writable file. The application won't run if the permissions of that file are changed. That's not my idea of how a security tool should behave.

ANONYMOUS  Has anyone any idea whether this client would work with AT&T's Global Network VPN? Or, does anyone know of one that does?

AT&T only has a WIndows client available. Their website still talks about MacOS 7 & 8. MacOS 9 and X aren't even being mentioned.:-(

ANONYMOUS  Well, I admit the price is really high, but as of yet I've been unable to dig up any info on connectiong to a checkpoint firewall VPN system. If anyone has any thoughts on what I should be looking for instead of buying this thing I'd be grateful for the advice.

SILVERDR  A nice and sleek GUI frontend to the OpenSSL/IPSec features of MacOS X. Nothing that would justify the price though. Use it if you are extremely scarred of the command line and feel like $80 is going to save you some hundreds of $s on consulting services. Otherwise no added value.

TEABONE  Wow... an expensive GUI for the built-in IPSec stack (KAME) of Mac OS X 10.2 and up. Type "man setkey" read it and spend your money on something useful. $89! *lol* I would say it's worth $5 to $10.
