MR AMNESIA  I have been using JbidWatcher for a few years now. It is excellent when you consider that it is free. It has saved me a fortune and so even though money is tight, I made a donation after the 2.1pr4 version solved the current problems for me. This is a constant upgrade of how eBay deals with snipers so I doubt that this will be my last donation. At the very least it can watch auctions even if you have to snipe manually.

CHARLES TETON  The best eBay snipper out there for the Mac... Period... This has yet to fail for me and picked up lots of bargains. Not sure why its still free, as other snipe apps, that don't work, charge quite a lot and I've bought most of them... Best of all jBidWatcher is now out of beta... Try it and make your own mind up...

Great.

I cant understand why some complaining the look&feel of the app.

It is ok and good to handle !

For an maybe better look&feel you have to buy $$ shareware - thats it.

ZX  Forget the ridiculous 1997 Look&Feel...This thing is a mess!! It's just so buggy and not updated to the new eBay changes. Basicly it's not working!

Note to the developer: Please redesign this thing ASAP (Xtorrent, Cha-Ching, THINGS...)! Than make it acutely do something useful like winning an auction...

HANSHAN  I loved jbidwatcher. It's really a beautiful tool to watch and snipe on your auctions. Unfortunately it seems, the tool now is no longer working, due to some changes ebay has made (for more details read the author's comments on his site).

I still hope it will soon negotiate the problems. It's by far the best ebay sniper I know.

Greetings,

Han

SAJE  I would love this program if it weren't so buggy! I've used it to successfully snipe two things, but I've consistently had problems with adding items, setting snipes, and deleting items--and never quite the same way twice. If you're very patient, this will work for you and the price is definitely right. Personally, I'll probably be looking at another option when I have the cash.

ALXVY  I've used this for some time successfully but the last auction it failed to try to snipe leading to me missing the item, which sold for peanuts. There was no reason given, I might have forgiven it if the was some kind of error but instead it just didn't even try. The interface is not very good as well by the way, it could do with a more professional construction. I give this two stars due it's failure instead of the three or four if it had not failed to snipe, and am off to seek a more professional and reliable program.

GRENDELKHAN  I don't think that I'll use this long term.

I just tested the snipping capability of the software on an item I wanted but is listed regularly. It didn't snipe. Additionally, the default time between checking as you get close to the end of an auction is far too long.

Price is right, functionality not quite what I'd like....

MACUPDATE ADMIN  From the developer's site:

eBay changed a few pieces of their pages and as a result, JBidwatcher 1.0.1 is not currently working; I have a fix in the source tree, and will release it as soon as I can confirm that it works in the majority of cases. Thank you very much for your patience!

RACEBEAR  I have been using JBW on Panther for about 18 months now and have found it a very easy to use and reliable

app.It has helped me win many auctions I know I would have missed without itA few failures were due to changes on the Ebay site which then led to updates on JBW which got it running 100% again.I have tried 1

or 2 other snipe apps, but haven't found anything which beats this!No complaints here!

SJJ_PUBLIC  I only just started using JBidWatcher, but I really like it so far. The UI is decent and the functionality is great. It worked beautifully for me today, winning one auction, and not winning another that went too high for my blood. I'm not sure what else you could ask for for free. Highly recommended. It gets "only" 4 stars strictly for the UI which could use some improvement, but that's a fairly minor complaint. One minor issue I noticed on my MacBook is that sometimes the context menu doesn't like to "stick". That is, I do a two-finger click to bring up the context menu on an item and release the mouse button, but the menu goes away instead of staying up. This problem seems to be intermittent.

JTKLUG  I have been using this program for over a year now, and until recently it worked quited well for me, allowing me to win several auctions with snipes. However, the last few times I used it, it totally failed to execute the snipe. I've lost confiendece in it and will look elsewhere. There seems to be some stability problems. I think the developer recently got married and has lost interest in the project. There have not been any revisions in several months now.

DK0R  This app worked perfect. I set it to snipe within 3 seconds, and it did. A+

This is not a set it and forget it application. You will have to resync jbird features to have it work properly

Regarding the prior review, the documenation warns you about multiple-snipes, and explains all considered variables...

Read The Manual

ps. An alarm feature would be nice :)

AN OUL' FART  jbidwatcher used to be great, but it hasn't won a single snipe for me in about the last four versions.

hint to the developer: altering the error message so it says "something really bad happened and i don't know what" instead of the former "unknown error sniping on item XXXXX" may be terribly cutesy, but it doesn't hide the fact that jbidwatcher doesn't work anymore!

the only good thing i can think to say about recent versions is that it jbidwatcher is moderately handy as a countdown timer to let you see when it's time to place a manual snipe!

ANDREAS/MITCH  Great ebay app !

Never failed an snipe (6 sec). I will donte soon (forgot to donate).

This tool was an "some money" saver for me, even if the find some actions isnt really user friedly.

I use ebay "watch this auction" in the brwoser, and after that get my ebay items in Jbidwatcher.

This method is easy if you want to snipe only a few auctions.

SOME BANNED BLOKE  unfortunately it seems that with each iteration of this app, whilst the user interface becomes better, its actual core function [sniping] becomes less reliable.

with earlier versions i was having an almost 100% success rate - with the past two or three versions however, almost every snipe has failed with a helpful [not!] "unknown error sniping on...." message in the 'get auction info' window.

It is true that the app breaks when eBay implements something new. But, when the author updates the app, it has always worked as claimed.

I have used this app counless times and it is the only app I count on for sniping. I highly recommend it.

I was quickly able to fix the problem on my QuickSilver G4 by downloading the Security Update 2005-002 - http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdate2005002macosx1034orlater.html and reinstalling it. MICHAEL  I have been using 9.5 for a while with success most of the time. It stopped working (Ebay's fault, I guess). I tried 9.6 which was supposed to correct the problem, but I still have the same problem- errors submitting bids, which are not accepted by Ebay, hence no sniping or bidding. Can still follow auctions, which has some use, but I have stopped using the program until this huge problem is fixed. I am looking forward to that time.

ANONYMOUS  Umm. Its a bit flaky just for general use. I put a search in for a hifi product it took about 10 minutes to get the hits, and even though I stated to use ebay.co.uk most of the hits came in American dollars. A quick glance on the website which downloaded in a few seconds confirmed that bidwatcher went to America instead.

So all in all doesn't snipe, doesn't look at the right ebay and is about 300% slower than ebay (Which is an impressive task in itself)

HELIXBLUE  I liked this software so much that I donated a few dollars. It's helped me buy everything from Nikon lenses, Sun Workstations, to a MuVo2 (for the disk). I'd guestimate that this software saved me at least $100! I've only once ever missed an auction, and that was when my cable provider went down for a few hours.

I really like that I can share my auction information between my Mac at home and my Linux machine at work.

Thanks for the great product!

SYD SCOTCH  Simply put: JBidWatcher rocks. I've saved my comments about this program until I'd had a couple weeks to use it. I have, to date, won every single auction I've set a snipe for. This program works exactly as you tell it to, and flawlessly. Set a 10 second snipe-- check the bid history-- your bid is recorded 10 seconds before the auction close! This program has allowed me to SLEEP while still getting the absolute best possible deals. And a word for complainers: THIS IS A FREE PROGRAM. Save your comments for when you're actually losing money. This program literally PAYS you by allowing your winning bid to be less, thus saving you cash. The look is professional, the options are complete and thorough, and best of all it is incredibly easy to use. I plan to donate for this great piece of programming. If I had to criticize it at all: I wish I could put an auction back on that I deleted. This happpened once-- I learned my lesson-- but if this were fixed (in my case, it is fixed because I won't do it again), this program would be quite perfect. Not that it isn't pretty damn close! As long as you set your display to "never sleep", "never turn off hard disk" and have an active internet connection, this program will snipe every single time. I mean every time. So download it. It works-- it's free. Cheers. --Syd

SPAMHEID  while i agree with you that jbidwatcher is the best app out there for mac OSX, it most definitely isn't infallible. i've been using it for about 6 months and it has missed a fair few snipes. maybe only about 1 in 20 [and of course it's won me far more than it's lost], but it's still enough to make me keep my fingers crossed when using it.

the most annoying thing for me is that when a snipe doesn't trigger, there's no error message or explanation. the snipe doesn't trigger and the auction simply moves from the 'current' to the 'completed' tab. the only recourse is to inspect the error log which, unless you're a java programmer, is usually fairly incomprehensible.

other than that, this is an excellent programme and highly recommended.

SYD SCOTCH  I forgot to mention one other thing: the auctions are saved into a folder which starts with a period (ex: ".jbidwatchauctions"). My computer tells me these types of files are reserved for the system, therefore I cannot access them. If I could access these, I could replace a deleted auction. At this point, I have no option. Still, I stand by my review. This program is great! Just some input to perfect this thing...

JENS OFFERSEN  Great work... and it's free!!

Only thing i don't like is you can't add an auction you deleted once.. strange i think..

anyway, i did get around it by deleting the auction nr. in the auction.xml file..

STEVEN CHUNG  This is the second snipe program I'm trying out, and I'm very contend with it. Setup is really simple and it even imports my eBay auctions.

Unlike Maxi Bidder you don't have to worry about delays caused by web browsers and mail programs. It even has the most used currencies (US$, GB£, EUR and JP¥).

Automatically syncs with the eBay server of your choice.

All of this for US$ 0!

TOM MYERS  This is a must if you're a user of eBay. It's snipe software that levels the playing field with Windows users.

Although it's free, the author will accept donations ..and you'll probably save $$ the first time you use it. ...plus you can bid anytime before the auction is over as long as your computer is on and jBidWatcher open.

It's very stable too.
