PASCALFORGET Yep... The driver have always been the issue with the PowerMate. Taught of reinstalling it to scroll down faster, and with 10.5.6 the pointer moves right (or left) when I scroll up or down. After a few rotations, the pointer moves out of the window (in my case, a Firefox page), and the scroll changes to volume up or down... I'll hope for an update. Meanwhile, I'll keep using the scroll wheel on my mouse. (Version 2.1)

F451 For the life of me I will NEVER purchase another Griffin hardware product that requires software as Griffin NEVER stays current with the Mac OS at hand. 10.5.6 made this software wonky; time to again shelf both my PowerMates. (Version 2.1)

TANKKNIGHT I have loved this since it first came out and I had even pre-ordered my first silver 'mate. I eventually picked up 3 black 'mates and sold my silver. When version 2 came out I had a blast playing etch-a-sketch and programming the 3 'mates with many commands. For the last six months I have been using 2 KVM switches so I can use my 4 monitors between my Mac and PC. My Mac kept losing control of USB devices when I switched to the PC and back. My EyeTV, Phonemate and IRed software would stop working and I could not even kill them with the terminal ... so hard shutdown. It was dumb luck that I finally noticed that no problems would occur until I used any one of my 'mates. I did a lot of testing to make sure I observed right and then removed my Powermate software and unplugged all 3 'mates. I miss the 'mates, but it has been 1 month since the removal with no USB problems showing at all, no matter how many times I switch back and forth between the Mac/PC. I am giving this 1 star for the headaches it caused me and because lately I have become very tired of software that makes me feel that I am at work (I am application support on window PCs, window Servers and Mainframe ... we've lost many IT people and not replaced). GEORGE PAPHITIS I tried to upgrade from ver. 1.6.4 on an Intel iMac running OS 10.4.10 Inspite of removing older version and deleting the preference file I could not get the newer version to display Global Preferences in the Preference Pane menu. The only function turning the Powermate was to change system volume. I could not scroll in web browser. In addition, this version does not support Unsanity's Cee Pee You. I reverted back to ver. 1.6.4 and all is back to normal again. As they say: "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" (Version 2.1)

GEORGE PAPHITIS I have the driver installer v. 1.6.4, but I have no way to contact you. You might try contacting Griffin directly either by this webform or by telephone on their site: http://www.griffintechnology.com/about/contact/ (Version 2.1)

SJJ_PUBLIC "Added support for multiple users". Wow! It only took them 3+ years to do it (multiple users/fast user switching was added in Mac OS X 10.3, released on Oct 24, 2003)! I can't wait for their compatibility fixes for Leopard, 10.5, to come out in or 2010 or 2011, perhaps just prior to the release of Mac OS X 10.7! (Version 2.0b18)

BILLKLEE Great piece of hardware, mediocre piece of software, at best. Instead, if you've got a PowerMate, I suggest using ControllerMate to run it. On the plus side, you can set key-modifiers (shift-right, option-left, command-click-right, etc) and it doesn't have the "I'll work when I feel like it" functionality of the PowerMate driver. On the down side, I haven't been able to get it to scroll, and the developer tells me CM doesn't support that very well at this time. (Version 1.6.4)

ABBOTT PowerMate has worked perfectly fine for me, including OS 10.4.5. However, a while back I needed to delete my user prefs file to make it work properly. This is a known problem (Griffin told me about it). Hopefully v1.6.4 will solve it. (Version 1.6.4)

BENR This has to be the lamest update in history. The PowerMate is the only hardware I have ever owned that consitently produces kernel panics, on PowerMacs G4 through G5 and PowerBook. Finally, 87 years too late, another spectacular non-update. I'm not even installing it this time. Truly the worst gadget ever produced for the Mac. (Version 1.6.4)

STEVEJ Griffin makes decent hardware, perhaps even good, but their software support absolutely sucks. The powermate driver has not worked at all for me since 10.3.9, and prior to that it did not work correctly with "fast user switching" (the software remains active in all accounts and each copy responds, resulting in very weird behavior.) I thought I had removed it before upgrading to 10.4, but as it turns out I didn't actually remove the PowerMate.kext file and I finally figured out that the source of problems I was having was the PowerMate extension. In particular the system would periodically go into overload and I would not be able to do anything, not even log out or restart normally. I would have to force restart to recover. I removed the PowerMate.kext for real this time (drag it to the trash, not to your desktop or other location, as that will only make a copy of it, not move it out of /System/Library/Extensions/) and rebooted, and ever since then the problems have cleared up completely. Historically Griffin has had dreadful software support and the PowerMate only reinforces that reality. Don't buy Griffin products that have software associated with them - you will regret it, guaranteed. (Version 1.6)

BALTHAMOS Works fine for me, but I had a problem. If you are experiencing any problems whatsoever, simply find and delete "com.griffintechnology.PowerMate.plist". There are two of these troublemakers. One can be found at "Home:Library:Preferences". The other is found at "Main Drive:Library:Application Support:PowerMate" Just both of those stupid file and PowerMate will generate them again, fixing them. Hop that helps.

ANONYMOUS The PowerMate is great, but Griffin sucks. They never respond to technical support questions, and this update overwrites all your previous settings. If you've spent a lot of time adjusting settings for your PowerMate, don't install this unless you've backed up your settings. You can probably replace the settings or preference file after installation. (I didn't check, since it's too late now...) (Version 1.6)

BERNIEC What a pile of garbage. 1.6 does nothing to fix the same bug in 1.5 that causes your OS X login to stop responding to mouse and keyboard control (clicks, keystrokes, etc.). The only way to recover - log in remotely and kill loginwindow for the affected user. And don't even think about using it with fast user switching! That only makes it worse. (Version 1.6)

MACROB v2.0b3 Killed everything, I have 2 powermates. I tried unplugging both then plugging only 1 in, then the second later. this brought back the volume control, but both did the same thing, and I couldn't change the settings. control panel says I have 5 powermaes connected. Seems like the only thing that DOES work, is that the lights glow alternately when the cpu is off..........expnsive lights. (Version 2.0b3)

QUICK This update is buggy as hell. I really wish I didn't install it. Previous prefs. were partially lost after restart. And after opening the control panel twice my PowerMate refused to work at all. I'm really upset, because I got used to this beautyful device and the new update just rendered it completely useless. Thanks, Griffin! (Version 2.0b2)
