ALJUK  Works very well. The one improvement that would make this app perfect for me would be if it could remember a local directory path when I set a remote location as a favourite. So then when I log on to one of my servers, my local directory is also loaded and I'm ready to go.

ANONYMOUS  Fugu is really great. I have a few questions:

Is there a real need to use sheets for transfer progress? It would be nice if I could start multiple simultaneous transfers, or at least queue serial transfers, or even delete a remote file while transferring another file.

Can Fugu be made to support Growl?

I know it's a longshot, and outside of Fugu's planned scope, but could it support kerberized ftp (kftp and/or gssapi ftp)?

Thanks!

MAC8MYPC  I have a web client who only allows me to access his server via ssh (scp) to upload files. this little app saves me the frustration of doing it via the terminal.

ANONYMOUS  I have been a faithful user of Fetch since (I think) the mid 1990's but I have been somewhat disheartened since migrating to OSX a few years ago.

I am definitely in favor supporting shareware, but when there is another program out there that does the same job better and is cheaper (free in this case) then I'm going to go with that one.

Fugu simply does what I need it to do. Its stable, its easy and with my remote web-host going to ssh-only uploads, it allready suits that need as well.

ANONYMOUS  Great little gui for sftp/scp. No freezes, quite stable (unless I do silly things like removed files behind its back, most often).

ANONYMOUS  Fugu has always been rock solid for me (over a year and a half now) but I know how things can conflict with other things. I would suggest that the problem lies somewhere else in your system, rather than with Fugu.

DAVID  Yeah. I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but Fugu has been my primary FTP client for easily a year or two (basically since it was first released) and I don't think I've seen it crash even once.

Fugu did the job flawlessly.

ANONYMOUS  Can someone tell me why resuming transfers is so freakin' important? I can't remember the last time I transferred anything via ftp that took a prohibitively long time. This is an outstanding, free, open source application for securely transferring files across the network. But some bozo think this, and every other file transfer app of any kind, needs resumable transfers.

My input to the developers: don't waste the time to implement this; it's useless.

ANONYMOUS  Why is resume so important? Because this guarantees robust of file transmission independent of the internet connection quality. If I am transferring a 1GB file across several thousand miles, then a single session lasting 5-10 hours is probably not going to go uninterrupted. Even some of the oldest, most user unfriendly ftp clients for UNIX have a "reget" option, so it's a non-starter for me if a supposed 21st century file transfer app doesn't have a resume mechanism.

KARINA  Not sure if that was supposed to be flame bait or not but I'll add my two cents. Resumable transfers are extremely important, not everyone is sitting on a 100mbit internet connection or in a reliable corner of the net (ever tried pulling files out of China, sometimes commercial sites there are lucky to give you a steady 1k/second and tend to give frequent timeouts).

SUBLINEAR  I remember trying a really cool FTP client about 10 years ago, but it didn't support resuming so I ended up registering another app (among many) that did. The year is now 2005 -- please let me resume. :)

ANDREW MORTENSEN  Please note that Fugu is NOT an FTP client (yet). It's a frontend to the command-line sftp tool Apple provides with Mac OS X. That tool has no concept of transfer resume, meaning Fugu, in turn, has no concept of resumable downloads. Until OpenSSH's sftp handles resumable downloads, Fugu will not be able to do the same. Please see http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=626 for more discussion of the problem.

MACSERVERS  Fugu is a true gem. It is used here on a daily basis. Kudos to the authors!

Regarding the review below, work on a project hasn't "ceased" just because it hasn't been updated in a while. While continued improvements to Fugu are greatly appreciated, even if Fugu were to forever remain at its current version, that wouldn't make it any less useful (in our case, indispensable).

Implying that Fugu isn't "complete" (what software project ever is?) just because it doesn't have FTP support is patently absurd. Personally, I hope Fugu never gets FTP support. FTP is an inherently insecure protocol that should be taken out back and shot. Twice. In the head. Adding code for an insecure protocol would just be adding bloat to what is a very efficient SFTP application. If you want FTP, use one of the dozens of other tools out there.

Fugu is already an instant classic, and has been since it made its debut. Once again -- a great big huzzah to the developers!

ANONYMOUS  According to their website, requires "Mac OS X 10.2.3 or newer, with BSD subsystem installed (included in the default install). Fugu supports Mac OS X 10.3 Panther."

This app won an Apple Design Award in 2003, and looks really nice, but work on it seems to have ceased. I've never been able to use it; the webspace that comes with Earthlink's ISP service does not support SFTP.

It appears that regular FTP (ie, non-SFTP) support (on the roadmap for version 1.5; we're at 1.1 now) will probably never materialize. Too bad, because as freeware, a completed Fugu would become an instant classic.

WAITIN'  Since I don't have access to an SFTP server, all I can do is launch this app and picture how nice it must be to use. (It really does look like a beautiful piece of work!)
