MACUPDATE109  You know, it actually does what it says on the box. OK, it doesn't have tons of features, and while I wish it came as a simple drag and drop app, would enjoy it if it imported straight into Aperture or iPhoto, and was upset when it crashed on me when I quit, it works.

Ah, if only someone found the time to reverse-engineer the protocol and make something useful with it!

ANONYMOUS  Pegs the CPU at 100% just sitting doing nothing- this makes it worthless for use on a powerbook. Plugged in, the powerbook gets very hot; on battery, you get maybe an hour's battery life since the CPU is going full-crank. Users with systems with heat-sensitive fans(G5 for example) will find their system's fans screaming away. Yeah, that's what I want for studio work.

Clumsy, hasn't been updated in over a year now (and what IS with the version numbers? R2 = 2.7.4.23, judging from the file dates) and not nearly as flexible and feature-packed as the third party Windows utilities available.

If you want to do tethered operation of your camera, sadly it looks like your best choice is a Windows box. Way to go, Canon!

ANONYMOUS  Canon's download sites are a shambles. The Asian, European and the US sites all carry different versions of ImageBrowser, FileViewer and RemoteCapture. Every half year I hunt around, finding newer versions in an other corner of the world. And then that naming! 2.7.4r2, is that newer or older than 2.7.4.23?

The software itself works pretty ok but the structure is completely confusing. All these different pieces: why do I still need FileViewerUtility to do RAW processing, why can't ImageBrowser do that? I thought that RemoteCapture was now built in to ImageBrowser. Apparently not, the stand-alone RM application is still needed.

The creation of thumbnails of RAW images in FVU is horrendously slow. The software is totally unMac-like. And the SDK is not even available anymore for Mac.

Why bother making some of the finest digital cameras if you can't provide a decent piece of software with it?
