ERIC  Hi .. me again ..

I have an update on my comment about dialing .. sorry if I led any astray ..

I live in Canada. For local faxes I have set Smart Dialing on ... have entered my area code ..

and checked "dial area code for local calls" ....

Then when I want to send a local fax ... I enter my area code and the 7 digit number. This works for me .. I hope it works for others as well ..... my apologies for the previous misinfo .

ERIC  I have owned this program for a number of years. It just keeps getting better and better. Works great on my Leopard Macbook. Beautiful interface with lots of info on your faxes.

One tip ... some of the dialing prefs are a little confusting ... Here is what works for me flawlessly. I live in Canada. Say I want to fax a local number. I set Smart Dialing on in the prefs .. and enter my area code. Then when I want to fax a local number i make sure I dial 1-local area code-then my 7 digit local number. Works like a charm!!!

Thank you Page sender for this wonderful program ....

ERIC  I also forgot to mention ... it will send you an email that the fax has been received in addition to the dialogue box that shows it has been sent.

PROFINITE  I have been a registered user from January 2003. One of the things that has always stood out with the company is their superb customer support before, during, and after a purchase or an upgrade.

I use Page Sender in my distance education courses in order to receive proctored exams back for grading. The software has been an indispensable tool in this respect.

Just a few minutes ago, I upgraded to v4.x. And, once again the customer support has been second to none.

When you must use fax software for work and truly appreciate timely response for help requests from the developer, I wholeheartedly recommend Page Sender.

MACMEDIX  Great for sending occasional faxes! Keeps a log, and uses Mac Address book. We send about 10 faxes a day via another Mac running PageSender with Printer Sharing on (and a fax phone line) to make a network fax server. It works, but gets jammed up several times a week. Sometimes requires a delete & remaking of the printer spooler (both ends), or Mac OS restart... Not consistent in that regard. Not great as a fax server.

Works great for individual, occasional use, even works great for occasional network use.

AMCAN12  No go for me. PageSender has a lot of features I would like to use but limited setup options are completely unacceptable.

I use eFax Plus for ougoing faxes and I have Gmail address registered with eFax - PageSender allows me to select eFax as fax service for outgoing faxes, but doesn't have Gmail among email clients. If I select Mail as as my email client (which BTW has my Gmail address among many others) PageSender automatically uses the first (alphabetically) email address of mine from Mail to send fax to eFax service. Of course this address is not registered with eFax and I don't want it to be registered there.

There is no way to tell PageSender to use the Gmail address and/or to use Gmail as email client. Bummer...

THE FAT CONTROLLER  Outstanding support from the programmers! They are fast, friendly and effective in their answers - even though I had not (yet) even paid the shareware fee!

I had really big trouble setting the software up for a Hermstedt Webshuttle II ISDN modem. Somehow they figured out from the logfiles I sent them that the "T^" dialing prefix in pagesender was the problem. Removed it and pagesender works like a charm.

BRUCE  Since my hay-day with FaxSTF I’ve used PageSender without looking back. I’ve found the program to use the least amount of effort (from me) than any other utility. I have never had problems with set-up or functionality beyond a day or two, and that time was a few years ago when they started out. Aside from all this I have read the various posts and can say that I’ve never had any similar problems. I have my G4 come on in the morning, start up PageSender, monitor my phone line all day, and when I come home I go into the Prefs and either select manual answer on turn off the program so I can use my home phone. Either way there has never been an instance with the modem or any other issue.

Great Job PageSender crew!

ANONYMOUS  I've been using this app for a year now and, while promising, it definitely has some issues. My main problem with this is that if my fax modem doesn't connect to the send to fax machine, the program will not release the modem unless I restart my machine. I have contacted the developer numerous times, and while he is quick to repsond, has not come up with a solution. He always seems to think the blame lies somewhere else other than his app. Restarting my computer (iBook G4) several times a day is a pain. The email portion of the appdoes work well, though.

BOB  He may be right - I have found that the OS fax will lock up the modem if the receiving fax answers but doesn't connect properly - and applications slow considerably when modem locks up - reboot solves it but not a great solution.

ANONYMOUS  Yep.. Moving my father from PB G3/333 w/ Global Village to a new 15" G4 1.5ghz.. He's rd to toss it out the window, because the modem is locking up w/ the MacOS X Print/Fax feature.. Does not seem to be a Page Sender or MacOS Print/Fax issue, but an issue with the new modem hardware/software Apple has moved to???

Anyone know of an app/utility to reset the modem w/o restarting our Macs????

ANONYMOUS  I am experiencing the same issues. There are instances where the system won't release the fax port and I have to close PS and turn the modem on/off a few times to release the port. OSX fax seems to be causing the conflicts.

ANONYMOUS  I called apple about this and they gave me this handy hit:

If the modem locks when you use page sender then do the following:

reset the RAM of the computer (this sets the HARDWARE devises to default) by doing the following:

Turn off the computer .

Then Turn on the computer

Press APPLE-OPTION-P-R buttons similtaneously on the keyboard when you turn on the computer.

You’ll hear the first chime.

Wait for the second chime before you release your finger of the APPLE-OPTION-P-R buttons.

Try it now it should work fine

OLGA SEVILLA  I downloaded Page Sender to my new iMac G5 yesterday. Everything went fine until the last item. It said to press "Add Printer" in the Printer Setup Utility panel and then choose pagesender from the menu. Well, I clicked and clicked but nothing happened. After uninstalling and reinstalling with the panel already opened I couldn't even find pagesender as one of the choices. I tried several times, nothing worked. So, I gave up. Any suggestions?

ANONYMOUS  I had the same problem after the update of my OS

this is a simple question of privligies

PageSender (in Library/Printers) should set to

Owner : Root : R-W-X

Groupe : Admin : R-W-X

as well as ALL files and folders inside....

after reparing this, all is fine

MARIOZ  I use PageSender at least a couple of times weekly on my PB w/h 10.3.5 installed w/out any problem.

I suggest to reinstall Page Sender after any sys upgrade as I seen that some permission matters don't let the app opens or works after updates.

If u don't like to reinstall (why?) u can avoid it repairing the permissions w/h Printer Setup Repair (Disk Ut does not do it).

POBBLE  From previous comments on this app it's clear that faxing software is a challenging and mysterious business. FaxSTF Pro totally refuses to connect to some numbers on my 10.3.3 system. Page Sender is better but it's not perfect. With the ability to send multiple pages it's certainly a better choice at the price. I have not had to dump STF; I use both.

ERIC  I have used Page Sender for 2 years. Unfortunately I now have to give it up after the recent upgrades.

Page Sender freezes on the print command. I have had no response from the company re: my problem.

Panther fax works but it's like faxing blindfolded.

I hope there is a Page Sender fix on the way ...

PHILIP MOREHEAD  After excellent results with Page Sender with my previous Mac systems, after "upgrading" to Panther 10.3.5 I have been unable to print to Page Sender fax; the print center tries to print and then stops printing. I have the latest version of Page Sender (3.2). If anyone has found a solution, please let me know, because Panther fax is not acceptable.

DENNIS STANLEY  Hello, I am using Panther 10.3.5 and when I tried to install Page Sender it sent my system into kernel panic and I had to do a force reboot of the system.

Is the software yet updated to support my current (mentioned above) software and if not, when might it be?

BOB WENDEL, NYC  I have now used Page Sender from v 2 through 3.2 with OSX 10.1 through the newest 10.3.5

I have never had a problem, never had a crash. This program has connected with every machine I fax, and I fax a LOT, including overseas. Other programs like FaxSTF failed to connect 20% of the time. So far, this one is 100%

Just make sure you follow the installation instructions, and start by purging every other fax program before you install. This one's well worth you time to do so.

STEVE K  I was hoping to improve on Panther faxing, but just cannot get Page Sender to work. Faxes stay "on hold" and never get sent no matter how I check and re-check the settings. Uninstalling leaves files behind that seem to intefere with other fax programmes, so do a manual search if you ever decide to ditch it. Not a happy experience, at least Panther faxing worked albeit crudely.

FLORIAN  Sorry, it doesn't work. The page sender protocol says "ok" while the receiving fax machine reports a "connection lost" error (and the pages are received only half. There is no trouble with my fax machine as it receives any other faxes all right (including those sent using the standard OS X built-in fax feature). This is not acceptable. Sorry, no !

WTKJOHNSON  I initially had difficulty with Page Sender and then founf their Tech Support to be very helpful. It turns out that you have to remove all traces of previous FAX software (e.g.FAXstf X) or their will be conflicts with use of the modem. I then had trouble with receiving FAXes from Brother machines which was cleared up after several emails from Tech Support. The software is very easy to use both for receiving and sending and being able to automatically email received FAXes is great. This is very good software but it needs updating for the problems found and installation warnings for modem interference problems.

JEZ  This doesn't get a good write up from me. Very basic, seemingly simple to us. But one catch. It doesn't work. No faxes were delivered successfully and after several attempts to send one to my Mac, one eventually got through.

Sorry, can't recommend this one.

ELIZABETH  PageSender? Hmmm. I don't think so. After trying several times to send a fax, PageSender connects to the recipient...and then cuts out. After uninstalling PageSender twice and re-installing, I thought that would solve the problem. Several attempts have proved unsuccessful, each time the error message comes up. Yes, it is simple to use...but it doesn't work, even, as it claims, with OS X (Jaguar) If anyone has any comments, please do let me know, my email address is newsdesk@graffiti.net.

Thanks

SUE  After installing PageSender 2.2, I upgraded to 2.3.1 when the 2.2 refused to send any faxes after the first one, though receiving them didn't seem to be a problem. However, I have never been able to send more than one fax in either the original 2.2 or 2.3.1 FaxStf might have been rather cumbersome to use at times, but at least it worked. This one, I am afraid, gets the thumbs down. There are few features, though it is simple to use. Shame, as I had bought the full and not Demo version also to eradicate the Demo Version Logo from the faxes, thinking it might solve the problem as they claim upgrading to 2.3.1 would. But no, it still does not send any faxes and did not delete the Demo Logo from the one fax I did manage to send one, before the software refused to send any more. Not a good choice I am afraid.

Suggestions kindly received=
