MACMAN90210  Version 5.0 must be just around the corner, if a company owner/employer is now responding 3 years after the earlier comments on their upgrade policies --- preparing existing owners for the new release --- lol

Three years is a good stretch for a paid upgrade ... as long as those who purchase now don't get hit with the upgrade fee if 5.0 is released a month or 2 from now.

XPLICIT  Why isn't it possible to have the Application in english language and use a QWERTZ keyboard layout at the same time? Just because I want to have it in english doesn't necessarily mean that I have a QWERTY keyboard. Poor. Anyway the german translation could be better.

AVOIDTHIS  As this product moves into the X.2 stage, be leary of purchasing it. Last year, I bought a site license for 3.2. A couple of months later, they intoduced 4.0 and still wanted big bucks for the upgrade. Rather than having a guaranteed free upgrade period, they were more interested in generating new revenue.

Perhaps a roadmap of planned releases should be in order so unsuspecting customers do not find themselves with an older version as son as they drive it of the lot!

MRANDRE1  Huh? You're mad because they're trying to make money on an upgrade? They should work to make their software better, but then give it to you for free, just because you bought it recently? If you bought an iBook a few weeks ago, did you expect a free MacBook when it came out? Come on, they're *supposed* to be interested in making a profit. That's what we call running a business.

And define "big bucks". I mean, are they charging hundreds of bucks for this product?

What's interesting is that you've made no comment about the actual quality of the product. So instead, I will. I am a touch typist, and it's because of this product. I used, I think, version 2, never upgraded, and never needed to. TTTT is very good at what it does, and I highly recommend it.

LAINEOPIK  Just to add to the information available, the upgrade cost for an existing Ten Thumbs license holder is $8.95. Hardly big bucks. We only charge this for upgrades between major version numbers, ie version 3.x to 4.x.

LIK  This is simply the best eLearning application I have ever seen. The learning curve is going up so quickly and the makers have done a very good job to ease the pain of rehearsing thru very positive motivating text. A perfect learning environment which is tailor-made for the very user.

Perfect.

JAMES  I bought this program for a friend who needed to learn typing for a college course he was taking. It worked wonders for him; he even refreshes his skills with it to this very day.

I purchased it probably 1 to 1 1/2 years ago, and have since lost the license code. It seems you cannot retrieve it from the application itself, and you need it to upgrade.

I'm not sure what the developer's is on upgrades: it may be that a new license has to be purchased, for all I know.

For months, I've emailed the developer several times, to no avail. I'm not looking for a specific answer (although it'd be nice if my older license could be used to upgrade), but just an answer, in general.

In cognito developers--not good.

ANONYMOUS  Ten Thumbs is a very, very nice and useful app. but still lacks implemantation of long promised non-english keyboards. Shame!

Worse: the "3.2" version still turns out to be version 3.1. Summer asphyxia?

ANONYMOUS  >"and the interface is, well, turd."

Grammar lesson: turd is not an adjective. Did you mean something like turgid?

But anyway what's so wrong with the interface? So ok yeah it's a little childish, but it still works just fine.

MRANDRE  It was my third year at college when I decided it was about time I learned to type. Enter TTTT. This was my first exposure to Dvorak keyboards, which I use to this day. How good is TTTT? I downloaded the latest version, which is much better looking, I must say, and took the assessment test. I thought 50 wpm would be a nice challenge. As it turns out, I was at 71, 0% errors. This program is so good I no longer need it. Now that's good software.

FREE MOND  I think its most attractive feature is its free trial. In terms of instuction geared towards professional applications, there isn't any. It is geared for lowest common denominator with no prompt to advance beyond basic. And, I think its script , illustrations, games, are are obviously geared toward mind-control, setting intended programs, which I capably ignore and keep distant from my thoughts. But it seems plain that yet again, those who wish to avail themselves of inexpensive or free instruction, do so, at the risk of guinea-pigging themselves, subjecting their minds, focus, eyes, to wicked, occult agendas.

MELT  I've been wanting to learn to type with the Dvorak keyboard layout for a long time but most of the typing tutors out there are pretty boring. I just found out about Ten Thumbs and it's great. They start out just teaching one key at a time and gradually add a key at a time. They have little games you can play and you can even choose which letters you want to do extra practice on, which has helped me a lot. I'm a pretty fast QWERTY typist so it's kinda confusing to learn a whole new setup but with Ten Thumbs, I always look forward to it. I strongly recommend Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor and the great thing about it is that you can learn the first 1/3 of the keys without registering so you can know if you really like it. You will, though, and the $25 you pay to register is well worth it.
