ANONYMOUS  This is a nifty little app. I just tried out Meterologist since it has a higher rating, but I find WeatherPop to be much superior to Meterologist — which would not add to the list of cities Santa Monica, CA or Venice, CA or Neskowin, OR, which WeatherPop was able to do. WeatherPop also accesses several weather servers unlike the one server used by Meterologist. Also, the weather info is available easily in a very handy interface without additional mouse clicks.

TIM NELSON  Not only that, but the current weather-widget is not nearly as functional. With a single click, Weatherpop also gives you other data like wind and dewpoint (if you use it to track conditions for getting outside...e.g. for a bicycle ride, you know how useful this is). Also, it is configurable to take you to the weather website of your choice when you click on it: the current widget takes you to oan extremely lousy weather site. Finally, it shows you the weather in multiple locations.

The weather widgets are going to have to get a lot better before Weatherpop is dead. You would think the glu folks would be hard at work on one, no?

APOC_METAL  Great software that I've been using for prolly more than a year without problems, although I see other users have discovered it only supports U.S. cities, which is a pity...

Otherwise works great!

And it also works as a great net status indicator... when my internet connection is down, I see no weather!

Haven't paid for it, since I don't really use it that heavily and can't bring myself to spend cash on a little temperature gage... but I may pay eventually.

ANONYMOUS  The one thing that keeps me from using any of the myriad other apps out there that are more full-featured is the icon set that WeatherPop uses. I just find the icons more elegant and easier to read than the others. There's also something nice about grayscale icons that looks better.

D9  Although overall I like Meteorologist better, it's current method of operation (HMTL data extraction) makes it very undependable and subject to the whim of a single source (weather.com). Just the past few days have seen a great amount of user feedback stating the inoperability of Meteorologist (including me).

Of course this will change in the future but as of now it is a lot more unstable than even WeatherPop's limited freeware state.

ANONYMOUS  Wonderful idea, horrible execution. As mentioned previously, the preference files must manually be removed periodically. This is especially true if there is no response from the selected source server: while awaiting data from the server, the "Preferences" option is dimmed, so one is unable to change the source, resulting in an infinite loop.

This is unacceptable for Macintosh software. If this issue is corrected, WeatherPop would be a terrific piece of software. This is a very unfortunate oversight.

ANONYMOUS  Proxy support!

Wherever you open a socket to (say) www.weather.com port 80 and send:

GET /path/to/file HTTP/1.0

Headers: stuff

Instead, check for a proxy (or let us set it) and use that. Say my proxy is "firewall.example.com" on port 8080, then connect to that and send:

GET http://www.weather.com:80/path/to/file HTTP/1.0

Headers: stuff

And Bob's Your Uncle, you're magically transported to the right place!

Alternatively, if there's an HTTPS proxy set, things are more complex:

CONNECT www.weather.com:80 HTTP/1.0

User-Agent: weatherpop and stuff

Then you wait for a "200" response, and go on with the regular HTTP conversation:

GET /path/to/file HTTP/1.0

Headers: stuff

BRENT TRAUT  As far as menu based weather display applications go, this application is lacking.

I am very impressed with the ease of use and beauty of this application, however its quirks and bugs have forced me into using its direct competitor, WeatherMenu.

WeatherPop gives lots of information, all useful, but not always completely accurate. Many a time has WeatherPop told me that I'm in a snowstorm when in fact it was sunny outside. It never seems to get the temperature just right, either. It really bugs me that the main thing this application was made to do isn't done accurately.

One other thing that always drove me nuts is how it displays the time incorrectly. "12:20 AMAM" and "5:21 PMPM" are examples of what it says for last updated time.

In a different light, one very fair aspect of this application is the price. I'm always happy to support independent developers by paying shareware fees.

Even through its problems, WeatherPop a great application. I do, however, urge all of its users to try WeatherMenu before paying for a copy

BILL MILLERICK  I purchased Weather Pop Advance on Feb. 3, after trying the free version and wanting to support the developers. However, when I upgraded to newer versions subsequently released, (twice), I lost the Advance and cannot re-register. I have tried e-mailing the developers and the seller and get no response. Beware, your eight dollars will be tossed out the window the first time there is a revision and you try to upgrade. The producy is great, the support system is flawed, negligently so. What a disappontment, because I'm afraid word will get out about the complete lack of support (or even a way to get support) and a good product will fail.

ANONYMOUS  For a whopping $8, you get to adjust the update frequency. It's a terrific little program. It sits quietly, not using any process time, between updating.

Other programs also do weather - Watson and WeathermanX (which has a menu app).

ANONYMOUS  Waste of time...only updates every 30 minutes, which renders it almost useless. Stick with Weatherman X which updates as often as you would like it to, and has more features.
