MICHAEL IN LONDON UK  I love this monitor but have since been advised by Author that it will no longer be worked on or updated.

This since I have discovered that in Tiger you can no longer bounce a message back.

Although this may not be crucial it would be nice to still have this facilty.

It would also would be nice to have an improved GUI to bring it up to date...one lives in hope.

Maybe there is another programme out the that does the same thing???

ANONYMOUS  I don't have any problems using this program, but it would be nice if in the account window when there was an unread message it would be in bold or have some sort of marker so you know if a new message has been received by your inbox. I have it set to alert me when a new message is in, but it can become an issue if you have multiple emails from the same person along with new emails from a different sender.

ANONYMOUS  I changed the name of the Popmonitor application Icon (mine is now called "E-mailMonitor") as is suggested in the PopMonitor Web site, and I never had the problem quitting the application. Now it works for me in OS 10.4 as good as in my old iMac with system 9. I just love this application, because I never had to read those psychotic words that come in spam email subjects.

ANONYMOUS  The crash issue is cleared up on the FAQ page and is a Tiger error - not POPmonitor.

All in all I think this is just about the equal of Mailwasher on the PC and certainly much, much better than the buggy Mac mailwasher released recently (which has been dev frozen).

This is elegent and has the advanced features (regexp filtering etc) and configurability that put this above some of the "learning" email filters out there.

Try it - then buy it - definately worth the asking price.

3818  I have been a registered user of PopMonitor for over a year. It's simple, yet elegant, to use. Successfully traps over 90% of the SPAM I get with just its default filter package. JFM  I have been using it for the past week, after an e-mail account which I do not want to delete became spam-infested. I had already an experience of using MailWasher on PC, before I switched to the Mac last March (MailWasher shopuld become available for Mac later this year - the concept of both products is similar under several aspects).

I am pleased to report that it has been working perfectly. It allows one to filter spam while keeping full control on mail, and without downloading spam on the local computer. It is easy to add trusted senders, as well as to create personal filters. Even without personal filters, it is easy to have incoming mail ordered into different categories according to different criteria (trusted or not trusted, etc.), which allows to spot spam instantly.

Moreover, several suggestions which I submitted to the developer got very precise responses (thank you!) and will be considered for future releases. I was told one major upgrade will come toward the end of the year and include a consolidated window for all accounts, which will be a welcome step forward.

In those times of widespread spam, POPmonitor is the kind of tool which everybody needs to have, and my personal testing has allowed me to see that it reliable and efficient. Very stable too.

Only criticism I have is that Pop Monitor should have the ability to compact down to a small floating window - the interface is too large, I don't really need to tweak the settings during the day thus don't need instant access to all that stuff.

Program is very stable. A good example of shareware that is as polished and professional as the shrink-wraped stuff.

NORMAN MACKAY  I've been using Pop Monitor now for several months. I have been exceptionally pleased with the results. It has cut my Spam mail down to a tiny fraction of what it used to be. Its easy to setup, and works with minimal user input. Once Pop Monitor has cleaned out the Spam, I send the mail that i want to read to my main email app. The filters work exceedingly well, and you can more or less set it up to work the way you want it to.

The developer is quick to reply to any questions or comments you may have. I consider this email filter excellent value for money, and essential considering the vast amount of Spam most of us get in our in box every day.

MIKE M  This is a first class piece of software that works as advertised. I was on the verge of closing one of my e-mail accounts due to the high volume of spamming but I still have it thanks to being able to purge it with POPmoitor :-)

Furthermore, the developer is very responsive - I had a propblem due to MY e-mail provider and within hours he had given me with a patched version of the app to workaround the issue! You do not find service like that everyday!

It is very nicely laid out and easy to use. I like the predesigned filters to get you started and they are great examples to learn from.

RICH  Great tool for Eudora users!

I spent the best part of a day yesterday comparing anti-spam shareware and although initialially disappointed by POPmonitor (mostly oversight on my part, it turns out), I've reached the conclusion this is probably one of the best anti-spam tools available, particularly if you're a Eudora user, like I am.

Most anti-spam software still has to download the actual stuff and this is where POPmonitor scores. Yes, Eudora (6) now has a spam filter built in, and which after several months is doing a great job too, with few mistakes. But I don't want the damn stuff on my disk in the firstplace!!!

And other tools, even if they have a better success rate than Eudora, usually work on the principle of downloading the email and then acting themselves as a local POP3 server, requiring a small reconfiguration of email-client account settings, to point to them.

Hah... the problem here is that under OSX, these 'proxy' POP3 servers require connection via a none standard POP3 port number, since the usual port 110 requires Admin privelige. And Eudora doesn't allow you to do this!!! Some apps can work around this, by letting you run as Admin, but they require you to be handy with the CLI or at best login as root. Not really a user-friendly solution long term.

But PM works flawlessly together with Eudora, telling it to check for mail having done it's own filtering, so there is NOTHING to reconfigure in the email client (except perhaps to turn off it's own auto-check).

I'll be interested how PM succeeds with time, but ultimately the filters are so flexible (and well documented too, which isn't the case with some Java based tools!) I feel sure it's success rate will remain high. And although, I haven't tried them all PM comes complete with an extensive set of filters, with more on the website. This is good, as initially setting up the filters can be a daunting, at best time consuming task and there were a few clever ones in there, that I'd never have thought of.

My only wish would be for an address import function, for initially setting up white/blacklists.

I'd have also liked an option to only download 'cleared' email, but I can see this is a technical restriction of POP3 servers. But whether there's anything PM could do to work around this? That'd be really cool! ;-)

5 accounts on various servers, a lot of spam, a lot of ennoying messages.

In few seconds everything can be clear (deleting a lot od unuseful mails) and then transfer to Mail.

create whitelists and blacklists based on specific email addresses or full domains.

popmonitor is totally flexible: filters can use natural expressions giving you the opportunity catch every possiblility of an offending spam in one shot.

you can do searches on any part of the email individually or in combination: if the header contains X message or PART of X message and the body contains X text or part of X text, delete that sucker!

using filters, you can flag them and delete manually; or, best of all, popmonitor can auto delete messages: meaning you can go away on vacation and PM will keep filtering. how awesome is that!

LEE  I've been using it since June '02 and cannot adequately praise it to truely say how GREAT it is! POPMonitor provides a level of anti-spam control no automatic system can approach. For a parent, it is a MUST HAVE to provide safe email filtering for your children. I have my children's filters set up so that if their actual name is not in the body or the sender is not listed as trusted, the email is automatically deleted. The result is that in 8 months, not a single spam has gotten through to my children. Prior to that, the porn-scum always seemed to find a way to get in.

Hate spam? Get POPMonitor, it doesn't keep the spammer from sending, but it does stop the spam from ever getting onto your machine or wasting your time downloading without your permission. Just remember to use the filters carefully if you set to automatically delete.
