GONE IS THE DAY...  What once was...is no more. I echo the sentiments of others when I yearn for a truly business level fax program for the Mac and also place a lot of the blame squarely on the shoulders of Apple for not catering to the business professional. I do not know whether I will upgrade this time as I need powerful faxing software that is multi-featured as was FAXstf ions ago, but lost it when Jaguar arrived. Although being with Mac since 1984, I am cheering for Linux to get better and better and then it adios for me and Mac. Never did care for Windows. Linux baby...yea!

RORY COONEY  FAX STF PRO X does everything it says it will do, and certainly provides a good interface for faxing OS X. It has a number of features that make it an improvement over the built-in faxing in X, like archived sent faxes and notifications.

HOWEVER, my beef with this company and its software is its crazy policy of not allowing downloads after 30 days of a purchased product. You heard right. You BUY the product, and you change computers and don't have a backup, and even though you have a valid purchased serial number, they will not let you download the product again.

So here i am with TWO serial numbers and no product (i know, shame on me for not backing up, but...). Ergo, i'm not buying their product again, no matter how good it is.

And actually I did setup the function inside preference to "wake from modem call", It works at all but system doesn't sleep though, my pbook just stay on for the whole night.... want something to fix it in the next version.

ARGEROUS  I am deeply troubled by the fact that FAXstf does not seem to work on either Panther or Jaquar. I have tried numerous times with a number of different programs and it takes me sometimes hours to try and figure out why it isn't working only to end up not sending the fax and taking the document somewhere else to fax. I was hopeful that the problems would be fixed by now. As they are not I will be buying another Fax program or perhaps a regular fax machine and delete everthing pertaining to FAXstf pro!

My suggestion to others Don't endure the aggravation you have when using this product. Get something else.

It appears as if your application is searching for the Address

Book, but does not bring up a dialog "Where is the Address Book".

A very, very significant addition is that I have faxed many pages via 10.5.0, but 10.5.1 failed, so downgraded to 10.5.0

STILL NOT THERE  I wanted to love FaxSTF once again as I have been using it since version 2.x, but somewhere during the transition to OS X the features I loved were all lost. I have kept up with the latest version, but it still does poorly against another fax software app that I will not mention as to not start another flame war. I benchmark both of them with each new update and the other always wins. Sad. It's still not there, but I'm still hoping for the best.

ANONYMOUS  I work with FaxSTF Pro X (10.5.0.). It works well with MacOS 10.3 (Panther) using the internal apple modem on a G3 Powermac b/w.

There are some problems within the application:

1. I would like to use the feature "Email Fax" but it requires to define an SMTP server that does not require authenfication - and I don't know one. So I have to export the fax into a PDF file and send it with an email app.

2. When I got multipage faxes with more than 2 pages, these faxes cannot be printed correctly - some pages are printed twice, some not at all. i learned this problem might be related with the choosed printer sized (i use A4) ... so i have to use again the export to pdf feature to print them correctly. this is a real problem when you get more than 5 multipage faxes a day ...

DAVID LOSADA  A big improvement over the previous version. The cover page editor allows to make really good looking cover pages and the software works well. Here in Spain it doesn't detect the dial tone, but you can configure its preferences to ignore it.

No problems detecting the internal modem, and i'm also using a cable modem to access Internet.

You still can;t use returns in the cover page note, but it seems something difficult to implement due to the OS X printing architecture.

HENRI HAENEN  I downloaded Faxstf Pro (newest version) for euro 19,99 some days ago, and now I have big problems. The fax doesn't work at all, doesn't cooperate with the iMac-modem, and now the programm is unable to start up. Even my iMac 800 with Mac Os X Jaguar failed and crashed, what it never did before. I tried several time to reinstall, but without any better result. I really hope dat there will be a very soon update tot fix all this problems. As a journalist the fax is very important to me. How further?

ANGELA  This program worked well in OS 9, but once I started to use it in OS X it turned into a nightmare. Interface is complicated, the program doesn't recognize the built-in Apple modem (for some reason it always wants to send faxes through my cable modem). After fighting around with it, I went out and got a real fax and I'm much better off with that one. I just hope Apple's Fax Software is way better than this.

AD  I find this latest 10.5 version premature, unreasonably expensive, and even in potential conflict (moden chase) with Panther. Even identifying the built in Apple's modem appears to be a non-trivial task... Lots of errors are floating around, and having no real on-line support makes it practically impossible to solve them. Perhaps the main idea of the SmithNicro company was to make some quick extra money before Panther's fax starts dominating.

CDANTHONY  I have been using FAXstf Pro for Jaguar for over a year. It is probably the worst piece of software I have ever used --- especially considering it cost almost $90!! It hardly ever works the ways is is supposed to. I had to PAY for a bug fix update 6 months ago, and it still didn't work well.

Nothing compares to Global Village Global Fax, which I use in OS 9. It worked everytime and was reliable. FAXstf SUXstf bigtime.

ANONYMOUS  I wasted my $60 on the new and improved v.10.1.4. Most unfortunate. I have over 4000 contacts in my Apple Address Book and the new version does not allow to launch the address book anymore. Instead, it shows the listings in a fixed window. In order to send a fax to John Applebee and one to David Zinger, I would have to spend 5 minutes scrolling.... A search feature was too much challenge for Smith Micro. Hopefully someone else will fulfill this need if Smith can't or won't do it. If I were president of this company and saw the long list of complaints about this product, the first thing I would do is fire the Product Manager and then look for their experienced replacement. Their are a lot of quality people out there looking for jobs right now. Surely Smith Micro can find something better than what they have got. That is unless the Executive Staff is behind this. Then it is time for Smith Micro to fess up and withdraw the product from market, refund monies and simple state that they can't or won't do it right, opening the opportunity for someone else.
