INTELIOS Could someone point me to to right direction on where to find the menu for opening a new Main window. I sometimes accidentally close the main window and cannot bring it up without restarting the entire application. Any help would be appreciated.

DETLEVSKI You are right, you just have to quit the program to get the window back, it's a bit stupid. Why don't you report it, I am sure they will fix it. Probably they are PC people and used to such UI glitches. (Version 8.0.6)

JOHN KEI You can just click on the Navicat icon on the dock and the main window will be shown again. (Version 8.0.6)

Thank you. This works beautifully. I still think they should just incorporate a shortcut or into the Window menu. For now, this will do.

DETLEVSKI Still no Access import like the Windows version, very disappointing to see Macusers still have to put up with a crippled version. On the developers site it is almost impossible to find out what's new and why I would have to upgrade for $50,-. It's a pity, because Navicat may have some quirks, but I work with Navicat all day and overall I am very pleased. (Version 8.0.1)

MACARON1 Have been using Navicat for over two years. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best MySQL editor on the Mac. If you do heavy editing, you'll appreciate its versatility compared to web-based solutions. Download and check out the 30-day trial. Or grab the free version off their website if you are going to use it non-commercially. SSH tunneling is buggy. It regularly crashes whenever I use SSH tunneling on the road. Related to the above: You lose all your unsaved queries when it crashes. Very frustrating if you have several or more query tabs open! The GUI for editing triggers and stored procedures is non-intuitive. I frequently find myself typing up the SQL in a text editor like TextMate and pasting it into Navicat. When in table design, you can't duplicate rows. Also, there is something unintuitive about the whole process because I find myself having to resort to the mouse when adding stuff: Tabbing will not get you to all editable fields. The Mac version, for some reason, trails one point behind the Windows/Linux version. Not sure what you lose, but probably implies they devote less resources to the Mac side of their business. The query tool does process multiple SQL commands but will return results for only the last. Also, older results will disappear as soon as you edit the SQL or want to type in something new. So, whenever I need to compare results of two or more queries, I find myself opening multiple tabs and going back and forth between them. Would be nice if I could see the results on the same window somehow. (Version 7.1.4)

CENOCRE If you think that being forced to install things via command lines in Terminal is primitive and idiotic and should have been abandoned in 80's, then you'll like Navicat. It is light years better and easier than using WebMin. The interface still needs works, to improve the flow and ergonomics (HI considerations seem to have been forgotten about by most including Apple about a decade ago.), but this is a very useful and rather featured tool. And, so what if you have to pay. Good work deserves compensation. Besides if you use this for business you will have done dozens of things with this before you have even figured out how to install , access, and use WebMin. Additionally, using an application for direct access always blows away any browser access in almost every way shape and form, especially speed, convenience and features. Use your brain, use open source, if it is good, but too much open source stuff will waste years of a professional's life. If you want to get work done, rather than blindly hold on to open source, command line installs, and browser just because it is free, by all means, get Navicat. (Version 7.0.11)

WEB-JIVE OK, I have sent 3 bug reports in over the last month had the developers have taken all 3 and fixed them! What great service. I can't say enough about a company that will actually take a bug report, verify it, get back in touch to let you know it's fixed and the latest version is available for download. WOW. Navicat is a critical part of my web design and hosting business. I played with a lot of tools before I settled on Navicat and have tried others since. Nothing seems to cover the bases as well. Highly recommended. (Version 7.0.4)

DETLEVSKI It is good software, I administer quite a lot of db's and found it a very usefull tool. It could indeed be a bit more stable. Further Navicat doesn't quite follow the UI rules we are used on a mac. For example, if you want to quit the program and have more tabs open, Navicat will present you a dialog if you are sure to close multiple tabs and if you enter "yes" it will close tha tabs but doesn't quit, this is annoying ... (and simple to fix) I am happy with this tool on the mac, but it should follow mac interface behaviour. (Version 7.0.3)

WEB-JIVE Navicat is a good DB tool, especially for the Mac. Be warned about 7.0.2, it crashes constantly. If your running 6.3.7, keep using that version. I'm almost paralyzed because of the 7.0 crashes and when I installed 6.x over the 7.x, it wouldn't work at all. (Version 7.0.2)

DRTYRELL969 I know its hard to pay money for tools like this if you're used to getting everything for free, but this bad boy is worth your money. From the easy user interface that is VERY comprehensive to the AWESOME backup feature, this product has saved my ass many of times, and I've only owned it for 6 months. I've had to move sites from one server to another, and this product do the transfer for me with one click of a button. Truly amazing. If you're serious about saving time, give up the demos, and get the real thing. (Version 6.3.6)

STALEPEZ Great software! I submitted a bug recently about slow connections to database servers with tons of dbs on them, and they were not only responsive, but fixed it like they said. This is an indespensible application for any heavy SQL development, the only thing I wish it has was direct .xls import/export. otherwise, a great app and highly recommended. (Version 6.1.5)

RONNIE MAC Navicat is in a class by itself. Yes, you can manage MySQL on the Mac with Webmin or phpMyAdmin, but Navicat does so much more. If you're a serious MySQL user, you'll understand why Navicat is worth it. Remote SSH logins, scheduled backups (that actually work on a Mac), all the goodies you'd expect from a commercial application with REAL live support. Runs on Mac, Linux, Windows. Even if you're not a MySQL guru (I'm not) you'll like Navicat's ease of use to get up and running (very intuitive), yet loaded with power to repair, optimize, automate. Love it. I use it on over two dozen MySQL databases on Tiger Server. (Version 6.1.3)

ANONYMOUS I use Webmin, free, can be accessed from any web browser and the Mysql server control is full featured. It just doesnt seem quite right having to pay for something used to front end an open-source project when there are other open-source utilites that will do the same. (Version 6.0.10)

MACD Navicat is a software of absolutely different level than Webmin. And can't really compare them. It's like saying "I can create texts in TextEdit just like I can do it in MS Word". These applications look alike, but the actual level is pretty different. Sure there are people who are just fine with simplicity of Webmin's MySQL management tools, but when you need powerful, industry-strength database management solution - Navicat is the best solution available (and believe me i have tried all clients available for Mac, including buggy mySQL's one) (Version 6.1.3)

SABOR I usually second the advice given when there is an alternative out there that does the same for free, but this NOT the case with mySQL and Navicat, they are two completely different beasts. Navicat allows you to schedule backups, remotely connect to databases, transfer entire sets of tables with just one click, save queries, create immediate backups (local & remote). The support is also good, I have had my answers replied to in their forums in less than 24 hours (although their English is far from perfect ;). I work with mySQL on daily basis and of all the products out there that allow you to adiminister a mySQL DB, this is the one. CocoaSQL is a good alternative if you are looking for something free, but to this day the amount of time this app has saved me is well worth its price. (Version 6.0.8)

JUD BUDA I administer several installations of Moodle and other course management systems. Backing up critical data to multiple servers was a headache until I found Navicat. I tried doing similar backups and restores with PhpMyAdmin and CocoaMySQL and always ran into problems. Navicat, on the other hand, just runs smoothly and sweetly each and every time. I've also found Navicat email support to be very reliable. I've always received a knowledgeable response within 24 hours. (Version 6.0.3)

ORLANDO PIEDRAHITA We have tried many different software to manage our MySQL databases in the past, however only Navicat came out on top. Once I download it as a trial I knew I had to purchase it for our company. The time it saves us managing our databases is unavailable. The backup features and how simple it is to use can not be compared. I recommend Navicat to everyone I know. Keep up the great work guys!!! JEFF TUCKER Navicat has solved several problems for me. My biggest problem was database backup. With Navicat automated backup is extremely easy. I just scheduled a backup job to run every day using Navicat and the problem was solved. Table design and alterations are a snap with Navicat . New tables can be constructed in a fraction of the time it used to take. The export feature of Navicat allow me to export data in a form that can be used on Palm Pilots by my employees. User management is very easy with Navicat . Adding, deleting and setting privileges is easily done with a few clicks of the mouse. I have tried many other fine programs, but Navicat is by far the best. Ease of use and the list of features make it my choice for MySQL administration. AMY STRYCULA Our company has been using Navicat for about two months now. Rarely have we found a product that has boosted our productivity so much! The ease of administering and modifying our database driven site is truly remarkable compared to the old approaches that we used (web based, server command line). It has truly changed the way that we do business. The time that it saves us allows us to focus on improving website content and functionality. Thank you for a well done, well supported product. PHIL CHAPMAN Navicat is an excellent piece of software that makes administering a MySQL database very straightforward. Of particular importance are the back-up and data transfer features which make keeping your databases safe, and transferring data from one server to another dead easy. The user management feature is also simple to use and again makes admin very simple. Version 5 has a query builder which starts to bridge the gap between the mac and pc versions of the product. It isn't as advanced as the PC version does make creating relational queries from several dbs a lot easier. What is still missing as compared to the PC version is the import from MS Access feature which I find invaluable - I can design a relational database in MS Access and then import it directly into MySQL which is fantastic. Cost wise I'd definitey say it was worth the money, especially seeing as you are getting MySQL for nothing!! In summary, a great piece of software and definitely recommended. There are lots of free or shareware tools that do a similar thing out there and of the ones I looked at this was by far the best. The piece of software that does beat Navicat for Mac is Navicat for PC - if like me you use both platforms I'd probably recommend getting the PC one, although I ended up getting both just for convenience. DANIEL MAIER I don't know what all the kids are doing here rating Software they don't understand. I'm very happy with navicat very fast and stable. CocoaMySQL crashes if I do a query. With Navicat you can doe a query and can view results with 10'000 entry's. It handel's my Database with over 2 Million records easily. That's software not unfinished freeware. And what does it cost 99$. OK its not cheap but it works. It would be nice to have support for PostgreSQL So I rate it very high as a comparsion for others. They only rate bad and dont understand that somebody probably hast to feed his kids and give's somebody els a job. Not everybody is M$ and named Gates (Version 5.0)

TIDRION Cocoa MySQL blows this version and their latest (5.0) out of the water. There is simply no comparison. I think the developers at Navicat need to spend some time checking out their competition. When there is a free product that runs circles around yours...it is never a good sign. (Version 4.4)
