PROPELLOR-HEAD  First, I have no interest in this company, don't own any part of it, just a happy Mac camper who stumbled on this groups products back in OS 9.

IPNetMonitorX does a great deal more than the Apple network utility. It not only helps me "tune" my TCP/IP stack by providing feedback, it helps me diagnose problems when they occur on my DSL connection.

I find the software helpful for someone who is reasonably technical. I'm not sure that an entry-level user would benefit from more than just a few of the many features. I recommend this software for experienced users with a Broadband connection, it will be an invaluable help.

ITTY  Does not work with my Airport card on a Mac Book or Mac Book Pro Intel, running OS 10.5.6. Running as System Admin. The Monitor just sits there blank and the Airport Signal page does nothing either. It works with an Ethernet connection hardwired to a router, but not with an Airport card. Very odd. As this is a release candidate I'm sure this will be fixed. But I'm not going to rate it. The developer has a very high reputation for solid dependable software.

ITTY  Amazing. The best keeps getting better. Not only that but still supports the old PowerPC architecture.

I'd give it more than 5 stars but I can't.

Been using this app since the old

System 7 Days.

TOM ALLEN  On a MacBook the Interface Info screen the interface receive errors is not working correctly. It just counts up with no reason at the rate of approx 10/sec. The apple network utility shows no errors. I have reported this to the author but there seems to be no interest in fixing the problem. This has been going on for 3 months.

PETER SICHEL  IPNMx is displaying the sysctl data returned.

I have great interest in fixing the problem, but haven't had a way of reproducing it since it only appears on the AirPort interface of certain systems. Apple's Network Utility always reports the error count as 0 (possibly ignoring the bogus data from this device).

I'm expecting a new laptop shortly which may help in testing.

TOM ALLEN  The error count with Apple's network utility is not always zero so I do not think it is in error. This problem has been reproduced on 3 different mac intels. The current error count is 26,000 plus and the computer has only been up 10 minutes. This is nice piece of software other than this problem. All of the other features work as advertised.

ANONYMOUS  People say that this better than the command line but for some of this stuff there is a GUI front end in the Network Utility app in OS X.

ETHAN H. DARLING  This is one of the best and most complete general network diagnostic and troubleshooting tool available for Mac OS X. I only hope that the developer would consider making this tool set available as widgets with the upcoming dashboard feature in Tiger. This would put it far ahead of its competition in usability and functionality. Which is its only drawback right now.

AVFOLK  IPNetMonitor is a superb tool for anyone setting up or trouble-shooting networks of any type.

And while many of the tools are available in command-line -- the excellent GUI is most welcome.

Considering the price of similar tools -- IPNetMonitor is a full-featured bargain.

MACJOY  Some of the reviewers are noting that these tools can be found for free elsewhere or that you can just use the command line. That's true. However, even if you don't mind using the command line and so know Unix, it's wonderful to not have to bring up a man page just so I can remember all the various options. An example is tcpdump or tcpflow. Two very useful tools that are available with IPMonitorX. I'm a computer support person for an academic unit and have been using computers for ever and have no problem using a GUI front end that makes my work easier.

ROD PAINE  Many have indicated that a number of tools included in the Sustainable Softworks utilities are available from many sources, many of them free. While this is mostly true, they are hard to track down and many in my own experience have been missing some commonsense, in terms of their interface and/or features.

Sustainable applications have been very good and the developer has been very open to suggestions and future features incorporation. The applications are robust and the data they provide is accurate and repaetable. The products are well worth the asking price, in my opinion.

JIMW  Apple provides much of this for free in the Utilities folder in Jaguar and Panther. Free maintenance utilities such as Maintain and OnyX also provide tools like this. Their also a lot of separate free utilities that do this as well. But I guess that if you need this stuff, but don't know Unix, want a collection from one source, and have $40 to burn, you flight is now departing from gate 1.

ANONYMOUS  This is excellent software regardless of it being a "front end" for command line software. I've used IPNet Monitor for several years now and believe it to be much better than any command line utilities. It's definitely better than Apple's Network Utility. It even includes a tcpdump tool. You definitely should read the help which is available for each tool. Also, go through the FAQs on the developer's web page.
