KMI  Control Freak does the trick (and much more apparently), it actualy works (except with "alerts" or things like that - which in my opinion is a good point) and it is free.

ANONYMOUS  It's not working for me at all. I use Entourage, and even though there's a preference for turning off the bouncing icon, it won't stop. I tried this app, but it doesn't stop it either.

ANONYMOUS  Maybe it's not possible... but, once again, I wish there was a setting for "bounce once and then stop." I like getting a visual alert, but I don't want it to bug me over and over...

ANONYMOUS  Works quite well to get Entourage to shut up. That's all I ever used it for, and man did I miss it under Panther. Now bring on (de)Metallifizer!

ANONYMOUS  This program is invaluable IF you have a program that uses dock bouncing for notification, and does not allow you to disable that behavior. The current public version of MT-NewsWatcher will start bouncing if there are any errors in downloading Usenet binaries, and bounce indefinitely - this uses a lot of processing power [Current private betas have removed this behavior].

If you don't have any such apps, then yes, it's useless for you. Don't knock a free product that's useful to others, though!

SAILING!  I know *just* how you feel... Today, I got pulled over by a cop and he asked me why I was speeding... I told him that I'd heard a new version of DockDetox had been released so I was in a hurry to get home to my Mac and he responded: "Well why didn't you say so right away?!? Go on with your bad self", said he.

And so I did, and the rest is history. Life is good

LIVINUS  so how is this any different from deselecting "animate opening applications" in de dock preference pane???

I haven't seen start up bouncing since the beginning of Mac OS X, and I don't need a haxie for it!

ANONYMOUS  This has nothing to do with bouncing during startup, but when an application in the background wants your attention. While it does this, it takes an inordinate amount of processor time, and will continue indefinitely if you don't dismiss it.

ANONYMOUS  Yet another useless haxie. It's been at least a year since I've been bothered by an application bouncing for my attention in the dock. Any decent app today will let you control this from its preferences.

ANONYMOUS  Hi,

Tried to install with 10.3, after restart finder could no longer launch after login screen. Safe boot didn't work so had to restart from CD and trash Dock Detox.ape. Use with care 'cos if you don't have a boot cd, you're stuck.

Anyone else experience this?

Ciao.

ANONYMOUS  Nice App! And now- please do something to stop bouncing, when a particular application is requesting user's attention. Would be great :)

ALLEN WATSON  Dock Detox is one of those things you dont' realize you can't live without until you have had it and lost it. I can't begin to tell you how much less _tension_ I feel when I do not have those blasted Dock icons bouncing up in my face! Best of all, it is both free and trouble-free.
