ALFREDO_TOMATO  I would suggest running the Wacom uninstaller before installing the new drivers.

It installed and recognized my tablet after I remembered to run the uninstall before installing the software.

First run the Wacom uninstaller an remove all software and preferences.

Reboot and repair permissions.

Install only the ONE driver (I used 6.08)

THOMAS_U  version 6.05-2: download sometimes stalls!

hi, the download sometimes stalls, never rises beyond 10 KB/sec. At this moment it´s my 4th attempt and if nothing comes in between, I´ll have the file in a couple of minutes.

But, for the sake of all Wacom-users, please Wacom, give it a little more bandwidth or a couple more mirrors. Thanks! We love you!

CLYTIE  Well, despite the fact that I'm pretty sure it's a Graphire 2 (that's what I remember, and we've had it for years), the CTE prefix apparently means a Graphire 3 or 4, and the tablet itself thinks it is a Graphire 3, because installing the Graphire 3 driver fixed our problems. The cursor now responds exactly to the pen movement.

So, if you have the same problems as we did, install the driver for Graphire 3. If it's not here on MacUpdate, go to the WACOM site > Support > Driver downloads, choose Graphire 3 and your system, then grab the latest driver. We installed PenTablet_503-3.

CLYTIE  We just upgraded to a Mac mini, and my daughter's Graphire tablet (original software) wasn't responding properly. So we downloaded this driver and installed it. The Preference Pane is there, but it says there are no "supported tablets" on the system.

We think ours is a Graphire 2: on the back it says "CTE-430 (Pearl)", which doesn't seem to match the codes mentioned in the update blurb. We tried restarting, and the tablet still doesn't register. What should we do?

GCOGHILL  I don't know why Wacom didn't include the new feature in the "What's New" section, but what we now have is a an option for a "scroll click" - you can set a pen button so that when you click the pen button you have assigned "scroll click" to and drag the pen on the tablet it will scroll (up/down & left/right). I found this in the release notes PDF on Wacom's site.

Very cool! I emailed the tech support (& the PR division) a few weeks ago about adding this exact feature, and wasn't given a very promising answer. Looks like they thought it was worth doing.

It works great and it eliminates the only complaint I had about the Wacom tablets - needing to use two hands for tasks/software that you could do one-handed with a scroll ball mouse. I hated having to search out and grab the scroll bar in Mail, Safari, etc. And the Touch Strips on the Intuos just don't do it for me.

It works great. Make sure you restart, it seems the scroll speed settings for this feature don't take unless you restart your Mac, and you aren;t prompted to do so by the installer.

Thanks Wacom!

ANONYMOUS  I'm not downloading this yet. The release notes clearly say this is a release candidate, not a final, which is not scheduled for general release until August 10 on the conditions that testers verify that it's OK. I don't konw why MacUpdate picked it up. It's probably fine, but you never know. I guess there is that one problem report right below this post...

LOU KASH  As far as I can recall, in the past five years every online update was a "release candidate". I guess the "final" version is usually the one that gets burned on the next edition of the Wacom software CD-ROM.

That said, not all release candidates have always worked well for me, especially there were a couple of OS 9 versions causing problems with some software (namely with Freehand 9 at that time).

I use Cinema4D extensively and when scrolling around the view port it no longer gives me a continuos flow - it now stops when the cursor hits the edge of the screen - and it's REALLY FRUSTRATING... anybody else with this issue?? PLEASE HELP!!!

BOBWEINER  I'm having a similar mouse scrolling problem (though in other apps like Corel Painter 9, the Finder, etc.). It goes away when I reboot or logout, but then resurfaces when I'm working with the tablet in Painter. I believe its the Wacom driver that's causing the problem. The driver has always behaved properly beforehand, so I'm hoping that a driver update will fix this problem.

BEN FRANK  It's jittery may be because your pad is too close to the monitor. try moving tablet away from monitor and see what happens. When calibrating, try to use a part of tablet, not the whole thing, makes movement smoother from one side of screen to the other.

DAVID  10.3.3 on my B&W G3 with driver 4.79-2 work fine together most of the time. However, the mouse fails to wake from the computer's sleep mode, and sometimes just stops working in the middle of things--no freeze, just no response. Restart gets it going again. JAMES PUCKETT  I have the exact same problem.

I am running 10.3.5 on a G4 Powerbook (1.25 GHz, 768 MB). About 3/4 of the times that system wakes from sleep, all USB ports and attached devices are non-function. The problem started after installing the Wacom 4.79-2 driver for my Grapphire 3 tablet. I tried getting support from Wacom, who ran me through some BS tech-support mumbo jumbo (dis/re-connect, reboot, try previous driver revision) before blaming it on problems with HID (human interface device) support in OS X and refusing to provide any more support for the problem.

I am assuming that this is a problem related to the Wacom driver, as I have never seen this problem in over two years of running OS X except on this machine, and only after the Wacom driver was installed.

If you find anything out, please drop me a line.

JAMES PUCKETT  I found a workaround for the problem that should keep people from going nuts until Wacom's programmers learn how to code. It restarts the driver, however you will be unable to access the options for the mouse or pen in System Preferences. After the wacom driver stops working, go through the following shell commands:

bash-prompt-goes-here$ sudo ps -ax | grep TabletDriv #This gets you the PID for the driver if it is still running

bash-prompt-goes-here$ sudo kill #Kill the running driver

bash-prompt-goes-here$ nohup /Library/StartupItems/Tablet/TabletDriver.app/Contents/MacOS/TabletDriver & #Restart the driver

I have considered automating the whole process with a shellscript, but I want to spend some more time studying how the driver works and how well this method works before I start doing this on autopilot.

CABBAGE  How are you configuring it with System Preferences? The Ink Preference Pane? That's been there for a while. You still need the Wacom Tablet.app

And look at that, they finally got the preferences out of /Users/Shared/. Now they put them in /Library/Preferences/Tablet/com.wacom.tabletpreferences

That still doesn't solve the problem that each user can't setup their own environment. When are we going to move them into ~/Library/Preferences/Tablet/com.wacom.tabletpreferences

The Preference file you found in /Library/Preferences/Tablet is the one used at the login window. It is also the default one that is copied for each user the first time that user runs the tablet driver. After that, each user can set their own prefs.

DILLY  I agree wity you anonymous, completely. I contacted Wacom about the fact that my old tablet wouldn't work with OSX and asked when we'd get a driver and was told - no usb tablet, no driver.

Wacom told me they were just following Apple's lead on this, but that's not true. When apple came out with a machine that had only usb ports and no adb ports they did not stop writing drivers.

And as people started hooking up their legacy devices thru various adaptors from serial or adb to usb, other companyies didn't stop writing drivers for the newer operating systems.

WACOM DID AND SHAME ON THEM.

But don't go to microsoft from MAC. You KNOW mac is the better instrument.

However, i found a full explanation of why they aren't supporting adb tablets in os x and i at least feel better about it all after reading this. http://www.freelists.org/archives/muglo/08-2003/msg00140.html

MRANDRE  I hate to waste the time of this little comment spot, but I'd like to read comments on the tablet drivers NOT related to ADB. If you don't agree, tell them. I already know the drivers do not support ADB. What I want to know is if they've resolved twitching issues, and other quirks of the software. I don't seek to demean user frustration, I just question if this is the venue.

ANONYMOUS  I had to restart my Ibook (Jaguar latest) for the driver to be recognized.

ANONYMOUS  I just tried my 100% working, actually mint ArtPad II (ADB, via iMate adapter) once again, and the mouse-emulation mode works fine, but the actual function like using it for Photoshop is dead without the drivers for X.

I really wonder what they are thinking, ADB is dead? No way! This thing works perfectly.

I bought it just a few months before OS X came out, and I'm left with an expensive mouse-pad...

They probably think they'd rather support their USB stuff only so everyone buys a new tablet? I will, maybe, some day, but I will really think twice before buying a Wacom again. I can't stand planned obsolence!

NILOC  Re: to hell with wacom. I agree Wacom has no excuse for not suppling a driver for the Serial/ADB tablets. Especially when you pay $400.00 bucks for this thing. The least they could do is offer a trade in.

ANONYMOUS  It is good timing, since we just got the 10.2.5 upgrade. The stylus seems to be more responsive in the movement and selection. So far, so good. Kudos, Wacom.

WACOM, TEXAS  Love it...always have. WACOM makes excellent products and has kept up with OS X. Okay, so they're always in perpetual beta mode, but at least they keep plugging away.

ANONYMOUS  bebes is right. the graphire2 running on OS X's just aint worth it.

it takes up more than 10% CPU power on my G4 tower most of the times, making it impossible for me to work in programs like photoshop and flash without obvious delays.

Prior to realizing the problem, I was so frustrated and confused about my system's poor performance that I reinstall everything and upgraded the ram (to 896mb), and still, the darn rainbow kept spinning in my face.

little did I know, everything goes back to normal operation as soon as I disconnected the tablet.

ALEX BICKEL  To hell with wacom for not updating the serial version of the driver to work in OS X. I have a 12x12 that is worthless due to their lazziness. I will never buy from them again!

BEBESINFORME  I have a small graphire 2 which I mainly need to use as a 3-button mouse. I prefered USB Overdrive X as a driver from the beginning. Wacom's driver is becomming better now, at least it allows OS X's onwn 3 button support (I asked that to Wacom, this is the first relase including it).

However, on my PbG4/400 runnin 10.2.2, wacom driver still manages to take about 10% of the total CPU time, while USB Overhead takes virtually nothing, this for the same action = using the mouse on the tablet. I don't understand that, and still feel unhappy that Wacom seems to waste about 10% of my CPU power.

ANONYMOUS  This update seems to be on target. Virtually all promised items are in working order. If you are anywhere in the digital art field, accept no substitute. Wacom is the answer. Period.
