DIJONAISE  I have been using Strata 3D for about 4 or 5 years and this update (5.5) breaks a lot of functions.

Tons of behaviors have been changed for no discernible reason.

For example, new items get stuck to the ground plane unless a newly checked box is unchecked. Field of view moves in the OPPOSITE direction it used to, etc.

Tech guy tried to humiliate me for asking about changes to the program behavior.

It is a shame because I USED to like these guys...

FLOODGATE  Generally a good, easy to use application, and with a really nice raytrace engine.

Compatability problems encountered in Tiger. Strata has ALWAYS had som e key problems in basic UI programming, but this takes the p*ss...

In order to make a window "active" (like switching between modelling windows and camera windows), I have to first klick on a window from another application, then back into the Strata window I want to use. Otherwise the buttons a ghosted and won't react to being clicked.

Will they fix this or force us Tiger users to update to to CX?

JOSEPH HUMFREY  I've been using Strata for a while now, and feel it's a mixed bag. It has fantastic usability, and it's really easy to make something very professional very quickly. I have used it in the past for rendering 3D sprites for games, and it does that wonderfully, with great looking rendered results. However, every version has had its own share of frustrating bugs and annoyances. The only difficulty I have had with it have been getting round these things. On the other hand, it is the only 3D app I have ever managed to make anything impressive with, so I would definitely recommend giving it a try!

PANDA  This is a stunning application, i would really really tell anyone who wants to do 3d work just to give it a go. It is stunnin' :)

ANONYMOUS  Strata is somehow different from other 3d programmes. It actually looks and feels more like Illustrator than to other 3d software. It is very flexible and lets you do things using different techiniques. Also to be noted it's amazing rendering speed and incredible redering results leaving 3DS MAX in the dust. However everything is not rosy. It lacks a character animation system which it should have and it has some bugs that can become annoying. If you're new to 3D try it, If you're looking to switch from other programme I would download the demo first.
