AIKOUSHA I can't take any application seriously that is EXPIREWARE! The program dies and does nothing but says it's expired after a certain date (without contacting home to determine if there is really a new version). This means that if the program actually works and is useful, one day, if the programmer passes or can no longer work on it, it will just no longer be there. I experienced this with lots of software from 1995 to about 2002. Companies thought they were all smart trying to protect their media, but when the websites and companies died, the software did too. Not Smart, not nice. (Version 1.7.11)

AUSTIN Is there spyware in this app? I ask because I installed it last night, and this morning, Little Snitch informed me that an application, 'mlnet' was trying to make connections to several sites - WHILE iSwipe WAS OFF! (I quit last nigh before I went to bed). 'mlnet' is found in Library/Application Support/iSwipe/MLDonkey This is a question asked with no malice - I just want to know. can anybody enlighten me? MIKE The mlnet daemon is not spyware. It connects to one of the file sharing networks (mldonkey or whatever) and it continues to share and downlaod files. The developer of iSwipe decided it was better to leave these running, for the benefit if users on the network. Other developers, like the guy(s) who made mlmac, are aware that this can cause paranoia in you, or performance issues on your Mac, and they give the option to quit them when thier program is quit. There are others left running by iSwipe besides mlnet. They go away when you reboot. It is because lots of these file sharing apps are just front end graphical user inerfaces for the same engines that run as daemons (in the backround) which were created by the open source community for all of our mutual benefit. It gets a bit confusing becuase of all the people involved but www.mac-p2p.com is a helpful site to figure out this stuff. I imagine if there was spyware on a mac app, the Mac commuity would be up in arms and it would not last long. (Version 1.7.4)

BECKY Here's a radical idea: If the developers of Cabos, iSwipe, Acquisition, Limewire, Poisoned, et al. could all get together and compare notes/code/ideas/skills, I'll bet there could be one heck of a great p2p app for OS X! Each one has a few particular strengths but too many weaknesses (although the best and most reliable so far is Cabos); if that formula could shift to many strengths and few/no weaknesses, we'd all be in sharing heaven. ANONYMOUS This has the potential to be a great app - BUT!!! There are 2 major problems from what I can see. Unfortunately, these are so severe that I think it makes it unusable. 1. When you turn off the edonkey daemon in the preferences, it doesn't really turn off. (check 'ps -ax' for yourself.). It just continues on it's merry way using your net bandwith as it wishes. Once you start it - it ain't goin' away. Maybe with a reboot or a 'kill -9' but I didn't check those. 2. The temp files this thing creates will eventually fill your disk - as it did mine. (see for yourself - ~/Library/Application Support/iSwipe/temp) For whatever reason, I had over 4Gb of temp files in there.... That's ridiculuous... Hopefully these are just regular bugs that will eventually get fixed - until then - no iSwipe - and no donation from here..... (Version 1.5)

ANONYMOUS The large temp files are created by the edonkey deamon intentionally. It creates them the size of the file you are downloading and 'fills it up'. This is generally thought of as a good thing because you will never run of out disk space part way though a download and it allows it to download non-sequential blocks of the file. (Version 1.6)

Plus mlmac, the GUI for mldonkey, has a nice interface. And here's a list of networks you can connect to. ?Bittorent (get your torrents at http://suprnova.web.siol.com/list_news.html) Acquisition is also pretty good connects to limewire but i think limewire sucks.. this one actually works nicely... SEAN T MC Tried the first few versions and hated them...never seemed to be able to download anything. However the last two builds have worked progressively better and I now find that I use iSwipe as my primary p2p file swapper (or is that swipper). LANCEALOT iSwipe is coming along nicely. I also could never download anything, however the last builds have been impressive. The potential of the app is awsome as it connects to 10 different networks at once. The downside of that is that it is slow and downloads sometimes stall. The new look interface is better and more intuitive and the autosearch function a nice touch. I don't use it an awful lot but for hard-to-find files etc nothing can beat this program. Give it another year and it may become top of it's class. (Version 1.5b9)

On the plus side, it never crashes and works fine without ever registering it. The tip about using giFTbox to enable its OpenFT works well, as you can then search OpenFT, Gnutella, OpenNap, Hotline, Carracho et al for the same files all at once. Nowhere near the success rate of using, say, OpenNap, Acquisition, and giFTbox all at once, but a LOT eassier. (Version 1.4b1)

IN LALA LAND Slow but more stable than before. Works fine as a background task without slowing down your whole machine. The price is right and get along with other application much better than Limewire. (Version 1.3b4)

ANONYMOUS well this beta (1.3b3) is not so stable have seen better versions..but it´s back on my favorites b)gnutella/opennap/fastrack(works even better then neo)/openft...this should be enough (hotline...SUCKS...) some hints: gnutella is like a grandpa...just startup iswipe go for a coffe an you got a lot of clients openft: if you don´t like ink..just download giftbox start it start the daemon start iswipe kaching there it is..also kewl when u dl something an iswipe crashs your dl´s are not stopped ´cause they are performed in giftbox;) theres only one programm which could beat this one: carracho:) (Version 1.3b3)

TENAB It is getting better, I've been finally able to download songs. The only way to fully utilize this program is enter in a bunch of albums in AutoSearch and leave it on overnight, wake up, and you have every song of every album ;) (Version 1.3b2)

GRAVIAN OMG, you can actualy say this about a free program as F*ing sweet as this?!? If it was 1-10, features- 10, Ease of use- 9, value-10, stability-9. You have to be kidding me, if you cant download, The server has privs set to no guest! With it crashing alot, it's YOUR computer, 'cause it only crashes when I have 11 or more apps open! This program is PEFECT on my computer! I use it when ever I need an mp3, it searches them all, even p2p! stop complaining and figure out your problem, this guy is busting his @$$ to make a very pleasing program, this guy is asking nothing and all you can do is complain! Oi! (Version 1.3b1)

REYMOSKITO You all naggers! should moderate your demanding tone on someone which gives the result of his hard work free to the world. The app is a bit slower than others and a bit harder to find files in it, BUT a) You don't have to be so "on tha app", it's quite self dependant, so it takes less of your time and b) It comprises many different p2p "nets", which is a GREAT idea yet to be fully taken advantage of. Overall: Great Idea, good app with a lot of room for improvement. Thanks HillmannMinx! (Version 1.3b1)

ANONYMOUS In version 1.2b16 but still doesn't work. The app constantly freezes and has to be force quited meaning you have to start all over when you get it back up only to have it freeze ten minutes later. My advice? Go download Acquisition, not as many options to download from, but it works! (Version 1.2b16)

ANONYMOUS For god's sake people. You got this program for free, who do you think you are to insult the developers? What do they owe you that makes you so upset when the program doesn't work to your requirements? If you don't like the program, say so bluntly and objectively so they can improve it based on your comments. Incidentally this is not the one of the developers, just someone who is struck by your ignorance. (Version 1.2b16)

MACGIZMO Not that I condone this software or think its any good, but the fact that you can't download something is not iSwipe's fault. This app is simply a search engine. If you can't download, that's the fault of the person hosting the particular file you are trying to download. (Version 1.2b16)

ANONYMOUS I agree with those that say it su*k*. Latest version (2/16/2003) won't run - I launched it and an error report was created and the software stops. The GUI didn't even appear. To the developer: test it more next time... (Version 1.2b15)

OLAOLU JEGEDE I can get the program running fine. Its just being able to find things that will actually download that's the problem. A lot of the networks wont keep you on their queue for more than 3 seconds without dropping. I only found the Hotline network to be somewhat reliable. I'm going back to Acquisition (Version 1.2b11)

AMBROSE FERBER I've only been using iSwipe for about an hour now, but I'm finding this latest release to be very stable, extremely reliable, quick on the download, and with a keen interface. If it continues to be this good, I will be a permanent switch from Limewire and Acquisition. (Version 1.2b9)

DAVE extremely unreliable. Allows you to download files with about 5% efficiency. A great deal of searching is required simply to find a server that works. (Version 1.2b9)

METALHEAD I don't know what these other people are complaining about. Yes, iSwipe is a little slower than other clients, but it DOES find plenty of files, and downloads are (for me at least) very quick. Doesn't crash much either. Overall, very good for a beta. (Version 1.2b3)

ANONYMOUS Um, excuse me? The developer increases the version number but doesn't take it out of beta status. I kind of question whether he's ever going to make this into a usable program. Try Acquisition (www.xlife.org) instead. It doesn't do all of the networks that this claims to, but it doesn't need to. (Version 1.2b2)

ANONYMOUS Excellent at finding files; not so good at retrieving. Often close to useless. I still find the unix program "gnut" the fastest, most stable file sharing app that you can run on a Mac. It's even easier to use than this program, despite it's command-line interface! (Version 1.0b24)

MARKER Basically a Nap-server client with limited support for other types of file sharing. Pretty good for a beta. Can only pretend to share files, which limits access to Hotline, Gnutella, etc. Some kinks still need to be worked out, but looks promising. (Version 1.0b15)
