MACR  Have used this application for awhile now... it works flawlessly. Finally, software that does what you expect without taking a big hit to the wallet. Needed some support when I installed Leopard and within minutes I heard back. Great stuff !!!

SKYNITE  I run both NetMonitor and MenuMeters, but I use NetMonitor for my network graphing, largely because of its appearance, but also because of its extensive configurability.

NetMonitor is simply beautiful in my menu bar. I have a wide bar graph display with fade out and transparency, and it looks like it was designed to be part of Mac OS X, while being very functional.

I also use MenuMeters for some of its other functions, but its network graphing can't come close to NetMonitor's. I recommend NetMonitor highly.

JPBADGER  Version 4 is a free upgrade for those with version 3 licenses. New version also picked up statistics where 3.9.5 left off.

KUPHD  Not really true. It's only free if you bought it after January 1st, 2005. If you bought it before that, you have to pay 50% for the upgrade.

PETERT  Relating to the previous comment - Menu Meters does NOT do it all.

That said, menu meters is good, it is always active in my Menubar. But, when I want to seriously monitor the throughput of one or more ports I always run instance/s of Menu Monitor.

It is very customisable and multiple instance/s can be run of all my active ports.

It wasn't only $10 when I purchased my licence, but I still think what I paid was worth every cent. At $10 it is a no brainer for anyone wanting to SERIOUSLY monitor connnection/s.

RCA411  I agree. And not only that, the license agreement expressly states in capitals letters that the program may contain defects, and the accuracy is not guaranteed. This wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to pay for a non-transferrable license after 30 days.

ANONYMOUS  Despite owning a couple of Net Monitor licenses, I recently switched to the Open Source MenuMeters. It may not have as many bells and whistles as Net Monitor, but it's Open Source and more stable.

Not a penny more.

XELA  > It works but a freeware (Menumeters)

> works better so this one is pointless

NetMonitor has a server/client feature which works excellent. I use this to monitor my modem connection on my wireless network from any mac connected to it.

Although Menumeter is an excellent piece of software it can't do that. So I wouldn't consider NetMonitor pointless. At least it isn't for me.

MIKE K  I have been a registered user for a while. Net Monitor is a great product and has helped me recently with some trouble I've been having connecting to Earthlink. When I use 10.3.3's internet connect, I continually get modem error messages and other problems. I decided to use Net Monitor to control my PPP connection and now I dial in without any problems. And I like to monitor my home network. I highly recommend Net Monitor for its ease of use, stability and useful features.

ANONYMOUS  Great product, the ability to have two copies running to watch both the modem and ethernet ports at the same time is great.

I use menu meter as a back ground monitor most of the time but when I REALLY want to see what's going on, Net Monitor gives better on screen detail.

Thats why I paid the licence fee, it's worth the cost.

Have a Great day!

pete.

ANONYMOUS  Awesome app!. This one works great with panther (10.3) and fits perfectly in the top menu bar. Allowing me to constantly monitor my in/out going IP traffic. I didn't mind the very small registration fee, since the programme just keeps getting better and better all the time. Great Features, and Great support!

ANONYMOUS  Very nice app. Even when I use MenuMeters, I like NetMonitor, because it has more features and looks nicer in the menubar.

MATT  Tried Menu Meters and found it's interface and options to be far more limiting than Net Monitor. Definitely worth the small fee to register. I've also had wonderful support - usually get a response to an email with a few hours, if not sooner.

It's not free, but it's better than the competition!

J. FERNANDO REY  Since I updated to Panther, Net Monitor doesn't display its menu properly. The latest version has not fixed this.

WAZZAMATTAU  horse manure! MenuMeters uses very little CPU, just checked... buggy? not at all, used it since it came out and it has caused *zero* trouble for my iBook (OS X is a dream come true). and redundant? you can turn off the features that you don't want/use... i use to use Net Monitor until it went from freeware to shareware some months ago, and i stop using any and all freewares the minute they turn into sharewares.

ANONYMOUS  Menumeters is buggy and a hack. It's also mostly redundant and sucks up CPU. This app is very precise, efficient and meant for one purpose only. Memory Stick does the job for monitoring RAM and it's free. CPU Monitor is free. If you don't know how much space you have on your hard drive, I'd say you need a new one.

GUARDIAN ARCHON  This is a pretty good program, but I was a little disappointed when it went shareware after the beta was over. Someone pointed out MenuMeters ( http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10451 ) to me, which is free AND a preference pane, so you don't have to mess with having it load at login. Further, it adds a whole lot of additional monitors (CPU, RAM, etc.) you can use. Net Monitor may be prettier, but MenuMeters is far more functional for the cost.

JDUNN  The coolest. I currently have only dial-up at home, but when I hook my laptop up to the T Mobile wifi network, I love watching the data fly at around 175 kbps. It also helps me detect when my dial-up connection is losing bandwidth, etc... Can't wait to get satellite internet at home. Thanks!

G LINDSAY  Net Monitor is a great app because it provides something for everyone. I am a visual learner and prefer graphs to numbers.

Because I also have slow (28800bps) dialup access I like to monitor what is happening. The floating graph is non-intrusive (on my 17" flatpanel iMac) and alerts me to problems that I can then track down with more info.

In terms of its useability, flexibility, capability and doing what it promises to do (with hints of further capability to come) Netmonitor is up there with Safari.

X4MACOS  Mr. Meyer, at the rate you're going I'm going to have to start calling you Ed...as in Hamrick. :-) You see the issue here is that now I have to select a new desktop from well...gazillions and redo the color scheme of NetMonitor to match. It's sooo high maintenance. I love every bit...or is it byte???

JH  It has numerous display options (some quite ugly). But when you find the right combination of live reporting and a good way to display it -- that’s when this program rocks. I work in several different locations using different connection types (DSL, Cable, Dialup, etc…). This program helps me troubleshoot connection issues, and it simply let’s me know my connection speeds. I run it whenever my computer is on. Great job! Hey, and it’s free. You can’t beat that.

ROB NANCE  I searched and searched for a non-graph throughput monitor, and I believe this is the only one. Well, of course it can do graphs, but it can do text in the menu bar, graphs in the menu bar, text in the dock, graphs in the dock, etc etc. It's very versatile and can do as little or as much as you like. It's a great little program, especially if you're trying to find a text throughput display in your menu bar like I was.
